Keep your pup safe with these tips!

The fall season brings more than just sweater weather; it also brings several new potential dangers for your dog. Keep your dog safe outdoors by avoiding these know toxins! ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ„ Mushrooms
Many mushrooms are safe to eat and may cause mild symptoms such as an upset stomach. However, there are a few mushrooms that can be deadly if your dog ingests them. If your dog eats a mushroom, itโ€™s best to check in with your veterinarian provider to be safe. Clinical signs of mushroom poisoning include drooling, vomiting, seizures, and diarrhea.

๐ŸŒฐ Acorns
Acorns may be a prized possession for squirrels, but if consumed in high enough quantities, these nuts can cause an upset stomach and even liver or kidney damage in your dog. Eating acorns also opens the possibility of choking or intestinal blockage.

๐Ÿ‚ Leaf Piles
A perennial fall activity is jumping into leaf piles after a long day of raking. However, this activity can be dangerous for your dog. Fleas, ticks, mites, and snakes are all known to hang out in leaf piles, and damp, dead leaves can be a breeding ground for mold and bacteria, potentially causing your pup to have an allergic reaction.

๐Ÿ Snakes
During the early fall, snakes are very active in preparing for winter hibernation. Take the time to learn what types of venomous snakes live in your geographic area, and take care to avoid them when you hit the hiking trail with your dog.

๐Ÿš— Antifreeze
Antifreeze is key to keeping your car happy during the cooler months, but it can be deadly if ingested by your dog. The toxin that makes antifreeze lethal is ethylene glycol and can cause significant damage to your dog's brain, kidneys, and liver.

๐ŸŒฑ Fertilizer
Many lawn fertilizers contain pesticides and dangerous amounts of nitrogen or phosphorus. Make sure to keep your pet off your treated lawn while still wet and avoid letting them walk on lawns that have been recently treated.
