We started this year with zero expectations other than to simply train and enjoy our dogs. No breeding and nothing monumental planned. The world simply had other plans. 🌎

I am humbled and emotional every time I see this boy. Chosen literally at birth not caring if he would be a show dog this boy decided he would show up and show out. In May we pulled him out to see if he could get his bronze as it would be our first. He did just that on very quick order. First GCH bronze 🥉followed by NOHS Bronze 🥉and just days later GCH Silver 🥈. We’ve garnered multiple regular variety group placements and several owner handled group placements. He’s currently #6 in breed ranking but will drop slightly for the end of year since I missed pre shows. 2024 is starting amazing as #1 owner handled breed. Thank you to Jaclyn Smith for the guidance as I continue to learn more every single day about handling my own dogs and never perfecting the dance. 🩰🪩💃

POTENTIAL OWNER: How much is the puppy?

BREEDER: $2000+ dollars.

POTENTIAL OWNER: What?? It's way too expensive!!

BREEDER: What do you think would be a good price?

POTENTIAL OWNER: No more than $500. You reputable breeders are so over priced.

BREEDER: I am sorry you see it this way, why don't you try it yourself?

POTENTIAL OWNER: But I've never done it!

BREEDER: For FREE I can teach you how to do it, and in addition you will have the knowledge to do it again.

POTENTIAL OWNER: Perfect, thank you!

BREEDER: To start you will need a female(average cost $4500 and up)and a male(average cost $4500 and up) or semen (average $2000-$2500 and up). You will need to do genetic & health testing on them, averages about $500+ per dog. Lets not forget progesterone testings, inseminations, ultrasounds, x-rays, semen collections, semen analysis, potentially semen overnight shipping and so on ($1500+). Raise and provide daily care, feeding & grooming for 2 years. (minimal $250 per month) Oh, don’t forget monthly prevention, annual vet visits and any other additional vet visits.

POTENTIAL OWNER: But I don't have that much money...

BREEDER: For $1200 you can raise a litter and then keep one of the puppies. Obviously, you will pay the cost of whelping & care.

POTENTIAL OWNER: I can do that.

BREEDER: OK so I have a female due to whelp in 2 weeks. You will need to be available 24/7 around the clock for at least 10 weeks to help with delivery and care. ( a million loads of laundry) Another 4 plus weeks to monitor mom and puppies.

POTENTIAL OWNER: Fourteen weeks?? it's way too much time for me! I have to work.

BREEDER: Plus You will need to be available for puppy families to call you 24/7 with a worry or concern no matter the age. You Must also be ready to take back the puppy/dog at any age if the family has a unforseen emergency.

BREEDER: You will also need the reproductive vet to do progesterone testing($110/ test ) & C-section($1000-$5000) and initial vet care on pups until old enough to be placed ($800+).
Have on hand a scale, thermometer, latex gloves, puppy pads, incubator, oxygen concentrator, nebulizar, heating lamp, whelping box, puppy pen, blankets, toys, bowls, cleaning supplies, appropriate food with supplements for mothers, formula, medications & hand feeding supplies in case of emergency....

POTENTIAL OWNER: But I don't have all these things!

BREEDER: For $5000+ you can buy them.

POTENTIAL OWNER: Ummm .... You know, I think it might be better if I just buy a puppy.

BREEDER: Wise decision.
For us, there are no vacations or holidays, while you go to visit with family & friends we are home at our dogs side caring for them. It is a no breaks commitment.

THIS IS THE REALITY
When you choose a reputable person, you aren’t only purchasing the puppy but also: knowledge, support , experience, love, time, sacrifices, etc...

**Plus the cost of life time support to the puppy owners…

These numbers are just the tip of the iceberg (best case scenario!!!) as a reputable breeder who takes on this journey full time!

HOW MUCH FOR A PUPPY?

** adding no one thinks about our sleepless nights, or the cost in washing laundry , electric bill for heat lamp, supplies we need when it comes to welping! Breeding isn’t cheap!

Let me say a few words to you, yes you, the person who sends a text to just ask for the price. The person who calls and hears the price and says “I can buy a cheaper puppy somewhere else”. I'll talk to you too; the person who doesn't care about papers because I want “just a pet”.

No dog is “just a pet”.

Behind every purebred puppy/dog is a BREEDER. I use capital letters to distinguish a breeder from an animal factory or puppy mill. A serious breeder does not breed dogs without documents that protect the integrity of the breed.

Registration papers are records of ancestry documenting the bloodline and enabling you to investigate possible health problems in your lineage.

When you tell a breeder you don't care about the papers, just tell them you don't care about the puppies health, you just want the cheapest thing you can find!

If you choose to buy a puppy from a reputable and quality breeder, this breeder is responsible for every puppy's health.

This breeder will skip vacations, miss sleep, and most of their personal home space has been transformed into space for their dogs. The truly passionate breeder, who loves what they breed, puts all of their time into it. Not only for puppies that are sold, but also for every customer who owns a piece of their heart and is now a member of their large family. Breeders worry about their babies after leaving and will take them back without question.

A breeder will get his hands dirty, often covered in everything that comes with birth. Because that's what life is all about... in the midst of birth and death is life. The wheel that keeps spinning. A breeder conducts x-rays, analytics, emergency c-sections, vaccinations, registrations, research pedigrees, deworming, and microchips of their puppies.

Last but not least, a breeder CHOOSES the family who is lucky enough to have one of their puppies. Yes, you read correctly.
A real breeder chooses who they sell to.
There really is no compensation that can offset the investment a breeder has made.
A good breeder has other criteria for those who want to continue their bloodline, why? Because breeding isn't a responsibility to take lightly, it's a lifestyle choice reserved ONLY for the few devoted people willing to sacrifice.

Since a dog is never “just a pet” he/she is the legacy of the breeder, a little boy's best friend, a protector of a little girl, therapy for the elderly, a member of the family, someone's whole world!
