Dear CompassVet Family,

It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you of a significant decision I have made regarding CompassVet. After much consideration, I have decided to close the practice and will no longer be providing at-home veterinary care. Instead, I will be working at traditional brick and mortar practices in the San Antonio area.

Since my first patient in 2020, it has been an incredible journey providing care for your beloved pets. Each interaction has been a privilege, and I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me and the CompassVet team. I want to express my sincere gratitude for your loyalty and support over the years. It has been an honor to be a part of your lives and to care for your family. While this decision was not made lightly, I believe it is the right step for my family at this time.

If your pet is a current/active patient, please check your email or our website www.compassvetsa.com for additional information about how we can make your transition to a new veterinarian as smooth as possible.

With warmest regards and fondest farewells,

Meet Ollie, our Management of Allergic Skin Diseases Guidelines mascot!

If you’ve heard the sounds of constant chewing and licking coming from your pet, then you probably already have an “Ollie” in your life. However, sometimes the signs of an allergic skin disease might not be so obvious!

Your cat might be itchy, and you may not know it. Overgrooming can be a sign of itchiness, and some cats do this in secret. If you think your cat might be a secret groomer, take them to your veterinarian to be assessed for allergies.

***** Pet Owners****Educational Awareness Info

Our fur babies can get heartworms through the bite of infected mosquitoes. When a mosquito carrying the heartworm larvae bites an animal, the larvae enter the bloodstream and eventually develop into adult worms that reside in the heart and lungs.

Heartworm prevention is crucial for pets because heartworm disease is a potentially fatal condition that can be easily prevented through regular medication. Is your fur baby protected?

Has that annual heartworm test uncovered a heart worm-positive dog? Exercise modifications are a must both during and after treatment.

Attention all dog owners! It's crucial to be aware of a serious health condition called Transitional Cell Carcinoma (TCC) that affects our beloved furry friends. TCC is a type of cancer that primarily affects the urinary system of dogs, leading to discomfort, difficulty urinating, blood in urine, and weight loss. Early detection is key, so if you notice any concerning symptoms, please consult your veterinarian immediately. By staying vigilant and informed, we can help our canine companions live happier, healthier lives.

I cherish all my fur babies, including our beloved Porter (Porter of Penzance) aka Doodie. Despite his terminal condition, I'm committed to sharing his story and supporting others facing similar challenges. We treasure every moment, and the good times outweigh the bad. Porter's funny and silly personality brings us so much joy…

NO BONES ABOUT IT! Get it (no bones cooked or raw for dogs) because can do all kinds of things like obstruction requiring surgery, break teeth, severe constipation the list goes on.

The holidays are a time to enjoy the company of loved ones, including your pets. Inform your guests about all pet rules: no feeding bones or other table scraps; candy and alcoholic beverages should be kept out of reach; keep gates and outside doors securely closed. Many of us will indulge ourselves with a big holiday meal, but we must remember to be very careful about what we feed our pets.

December abounds with holiday celebrations, and nothing can spoil good cheer like an emergency trip to the veterinary clinic. These tips can help keep the winter holiday season safe for pets.
