This is your reminder that behavior modification takes time. Especially if your dog is doing some things you won't appreciate during the holidays, now is the time to start working on it! Does your dog get anxious with visitors to your house? Are they jumping on guests, taking food off the counters, or any other behaviors you don't love? Now is the time to start building better habits to make the holiday season less stressful for everyone!

There's always nuance within dog body language. Understanding your dog's baseline body language will allow you to notice more subtle signs of stress! These are a few commonly missed or misinterpreted stress signals for dogs. Often times these displacement signals are normal behavior in other contexts, which is why they are often tricky to recognize.

Here are some smart and safe ways to respond when your dog is growling! It's important to remember that growling is communication and our dogs are not being bad. They are just trying to tell us that they are uncomfortable, need space, or aren't feeling well. Growling around being handled or groomed could be a sign of pain (yes, even in small dogs). If you are struggling to identify why your dog is growling and how to help them feel safer, reach out to a qualified professional!

Will your dog be wearing a costume? What is it and how are you helping them feel comfortable wearing it? I just want to do the little ghost tiktok trend so I just need him comfortable for some pictures, but that doesn't mean I can just jump to tossing his costume on and hoping for the best. Bagel doesn't love clothes or gear so I am starting work now so that he is happy to put on his costume! This is the first day we've worked on it and these videos are after about 10 minutes (split up into smaller sessions throughout the day) total.
