Renaissance Equine Rescue & Welfare Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) private operating foundation located in Southern Pines, NC. Renaissance rescues, rehabilitates, rehomes, and provides permanent sanctuary to equine without discrimination of breed, size, age, temperament, or physical condition. The mission is to provide equine in need with high quality daily care, rehabilitation, training, and eventua
l adoption into permanent forever homes where they will continue to receive the love and care they deserve. The rescue houses 42 +/- equines on 30 acres, employs 11 people and contracts with various equine professionals for training, rehabilitation and wellness. It is not uncommon for horses to arrive in poor physical condition, with ulcers, lameness, emotional issues, and poor hoof condition. New arrivals are vetted, receive vaccinations, blood work when appropriate, f***l panel and assessed for lameness. Any injuries or illness is dealt with immediately by our vet, Breezeway Sporthorse and Diagnostic Clinic or specialist when necessary, and a care plan is established. We make every effort to help our equines regain their quality of life and thrive. Because some equines are not adoptable due to their special needs, these ‘Sanctuary Equine’ stay with us as permanent residents receiving the daily care they need. When quality of life cannot be achieved, we provide the last act of kindness through humane euthanasia. In addition to utilizing equine chiropractors and professional bodyworkers, Renaissance owns and utilizes a variety of equipment in our daily rehab protocols which are determined through a collaboration between Renaissance and our veterinarians and specialists. We believe a trained horse is better able to stay safe for life and not return to the circumstances from which they came. Therefore, our adoptable horses receive training to develop their fundamentals such as good ground manners, trailer loading, bathing, clipping etc. Horses are assessed for what they know under saddle and receive additional training to help correct undesirable habits and complete their fundamental knowledge such as moving off pressure, forward, back, walk, trot, canter, bend and often more. We train both on trails and in the arena to produce well rounded horses. A completed application is required before any riding equine can be tried out and for all equines before adoption can be approved. The application process includes Vet and Farrier reference checks and a farm/facility visit. Because life is full of unexpected events, all equines are adopted out under contract with a no sale clause providing a safety net for both the adopter and the equine. If the adopter is no longer able or willing to care for the equine, they must be returned to the rescue. If you are interested in financially assisting the work of Renaissance, donors can deduct contributions they make to Renaissance under IRS Section 170, and qualified Renaissance to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers, or gifts under Section 2055, 2106, or 2522.
