These cuties are already 5 weeks old 😳. How did that happen? They are so fun and cute, and doing their darnedest to keep up with the bigger pups. These guys are Portidoodles and will be a little smaller than our purebred PWDs, they will have a curlier coat but still the super fun personalities.

Max (previously Pecos) from our Cowboys litter checks in! His mom says “He is wonderful and happy here, him & Millie (his sister) get along well”. He loves lettuce and frozen blueberries, makes his family laugh by being very vocal and sleeps spread eagle on his back in his kennel! 🤣 Max is around 20 inches tall and 22.5 lbs at 6 months old. He is from our last Portidoodle litter and his parents are Cherie and Finn.

I would love to! Why? It’s me, I’m the groomer! Definitely not a professional, but with 6 adult dogs in the house it is a big job! Especially with puppies at our house, we have to limit the time and places we take adult dogs off property, so it was important for me to learn to groom my dogs myself. It’s also more cost effective for us. Let’s talk haircuts, whether you have Portuguese Water Dogs, Poodles or doodles, hair is part of your life! Lots of people love a cute teddy bear cut or a longer retriever cut, but with those cuts comes more time maintaining them. It includes brushing, bathing and blow drying, on repeat. When it snows, snow compacts in the hair forming snow balls, then you have to brush them out and dry them off! We live in the country and the dogs drag in dirt, mud, sticks, burrs, you name it in their hair. Longer cuts are not for everyone! For some they are a lot of work! I strongly encourage my clients to talk with their groomers and figure out a haircut that works not only with your style but with your lifestyle! If you are like us, a shorter hairstyle might be just the ticket! I choose a shorter style for most of my dogs because I can go longer between grooms, it’s less time for me to maintain and they bring in less snow, mud and dirt. Plus we do a lot outdoors and live in a place where there are lots of burrs and seed heads. Shorter cuts make a lot of sense for us. Rey here did have a few “working mats”, but was not pelted, so a short cut wasn’t required. She had also been about 12 weeks between cuts, which isn’t recommended but I’ve been quite busy with puppies. She also has a wavier coat, which doesn’t mat as bad as my curlier coated PWDs and poodles. There are so many things to consider when you decide on a hairstyle for your dog. If you love having a longer hairstyle on your dog, but are fighting the mats. Talk with your groomer! Work with them to find the hairstyle that works best for you and your dog! #portuguesewater
