Hi all, the names Brew! The ladies at D&D Dog Dynamics had seen something special in me when I became in need of a new home because my mom passed away. I have been being fostered and in training for therapy dog work and have excelled! I am now to the point of being ready for placement to finish out the very final stages of vest work with my furever handler to start my job! I am an Australian Cattle Dog Beagle Mix that's just over a year and a half old. Bestday Australian Shepherds donated Damon to the program to be placed in the community. After going through obedience classes with D&D Dog Dynamics, and some on the job training, he was matched with his handler, Laurie, at the Escanaba Student Success Center. Even though Damon is still in training, he has made such an enormous impact on the classroom’s atmosphere. He has an instinctive ability to just know when someone needs his comfort. We are honored to be part of Damon’s journey!

On January 26th, 2023, we met Opal. She helped us launch the Remarkable Rescue Dog Project with the Delta Animal Shelter. Opal has made such an impact on everyone she meets. She provided respite for Blue at the Delta Regional CAC, serves the Delta County Victim's Services Unit , and is involved in various community efforts. She is now a certified therapy dog through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. We’re proud of Opal and how hard her team has worked to always be prepared to serve the community!

Blue, the dog who started it all. Blue worked a majority of this year, serving hundreds of children during forensic interviews and advocacy at the Delta Regional Child Advocacy Center.
She also served the community during other crises that have occurred. While Blue is taking a step back from serving, we are forever grateful for the impact she has made and those who have helped to make that possible. A heartfelt thank you to the Delta Animal Shelter, D&D Dog Dynamics, and the Delta Regional CAC for making Blue's work a reality!

Reflecting back on 2023, we’ve come to the conclusion we cannot make just one post about our year. We will be sharing some of our biggest moments over the next week, and also share what the plans are for this coming year. We want to take this time to thank the community, our partners, and sponsors for everything they’ve contributed to Canines for Comfort!

We are grateful for D&D Dog Dynamics support and their shared passion for helping the community! Together, we can accomplish so much!

Being in a small community, we feel it’s so important to do what we can to help support good people, other small businesses, organizations, and causes. That being said, it was a no brainer to us to become Big Dog Sponsors for Canines for Comfort!

We are thrilled to be the place to provide these dogs going through the program top of the line professional training to prepare and train them for their future placements of therapy and/or facility dog work in our community and surrounding communities! The success of current placements, Opal the Poodle- Delta County VSU Therapy Dog, Vera at Escanaba Department of Public Safety, Damon at Delta Schoolcraft ISD, and before retirement due to health, Blue at Delta Regional Child Advocacy Center, is unimaginable! Just thinking about the amount of lives these dogs impact in a positive way is awe inspiring!

A big thank you to Canines For Comfort for the framed photo and plaque commemorating this partnership! We cannot wait to continue to add names of placed comfort teams to it and add to our photo wall! We are honored to be backing you and to help be bringing a sense of peace with a helping paw to those in need of it!💙🐾

If interested in sponsoring or applying for a comfort canine for your organization, please reach out to Canines for Comfort to learn more!

We cannot say enough about D&D Dog Dynamics! Sammi at D&D has a had involvement with every dog that has gone through our program.

Sunny enjoyed his time through obedience classes. He’s one step closer to his permanent placement ♥️

D&D is enrolling for their next round of classes! Maybe you’ll meet one of our next recruits while you’re in class. 🤔 😁

We are so proud of our board member, Sammi, and K9 Nuke!

Yesterday Nuke and I had the honor of being sworn in as reserve deputies for the Menominee County Sheriff's Office. With this position, and being certified through NAPCH (National Association of Professional Canine Handlers) in tracking and explosives, we can much more readily provide additional canine assistance when requested for a missing person or explosives detection. In the UP there are only 3 certified explosives canines. In addition, we are also special deputized with Alger County Sheriff to provide the same assistance. We look forward to serving the local communities when called upon.🐾

We want to give a big paw of gratitude to the Community Foundation for Delta County for their their support! Through a grant received, we were able to purchase a vehicle kennel, house kennels, and cozy dog beds to go inside them.

This amazing addition has not only increased safety for both our furry friends and those driving but has also become a beloved space for our canines to ride in.

Every day these kennels are put to good use! The dogs love being transporting to training sessions and important appointments. And guess what? We've witnessed firsthand how it has worked wonders in reducing fear and anxiety associated with riding in vehicles for those who struggle with it. 🙌❤️

We want to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Community Foundation of Delta County. Your generosity has made a significant impact on the well-being and happiness of our four-legged companions. Thank you for helping us create safer and more comfortable accommodations for the dogs who are in training to serve our community!

Sunny is working hard in training for his new career! He is getting so very close to being ready for his permanent placement.

It’s an overwhelming thought that ONE dog can make a positive impact to THOUSANDS of people! We’re happy to know that Sunny will soon be serving his true purpose in his own organization where he will get to be the center of attention and serve the community.

Thank you to D&D Dog Dynamics and the Delta Regional Child Advocacy Center for their partnership! Their support has truly set Sunny up for success!

Stay tuned for more Sunny updates and to find out where he’s going to be placed. 💛 ☀️

04/11/2023

It is with a heavy heart that we share that after serving the Upper Peninsula with dedication since 2021 at the Delta Regional Child Advocacy Center, Blue will be stepping back from her role due to behavioral and medical issues.

As many of you know, Blue is a puppy mill survivor. Rescued at a very young age by the Michigan State Police and Delta Animal Shelter. Her early exposure to such a stressful environment and genetic factors have likely played a role in her current situation. We hope to raise awareness about the lasting impact of puppy mills on dogs' well-being.

Over the past few months, Blue has shown a gradual loss of interest in her work and has become increasingly timid and fearful of certain things. These behaviors have intensified to the point where she can no longer fulfill her duties. These behaviors are common with puppies and dogs who come from a mill. While Blue had some issues as a puppy, she overcame them. Sadly, something has sparked new behavioral issues to surface. Our priority is to focus on her mental well-being.

Blue is adjusting and has been assigned new tasks at home. She still eagerly wants to go to work in the mornings when everyone is getting ready, but is starting to become excited for her new rituals.

Please remember, when considering a new pup adopt from a shelter or choose a puppy from a high-quality and ethical breeder. Look for breeders who health test, treat their dogs with utmost care, allow you to meet the parents, and avoid shipping puppies. Excellent breeders exist to preserve the breeds, which is vital. Puppy mills and backyard breeders do not. Please SHARE Blue’s story to help raise awareness. Together, we can work towards ending puppy mills and preventing situations like Blue's.

Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support. We would like to especially thank Opal the Poodle- Delta County VSU Therapy Dog and her mom throughout the last couple of months along with D&D Dog Dynamics.

-Sarah

We are so very grateful to Peninsula Federal Credit Union for their donation!

Week after week, year after year, employees at Peninsula Federal Credit Union donate $1 to wear jeans on Fridays. This year, the PFCU departments are each donating a portion of the funds to their organization of choice. This week, our Call Center team has chosen Canines for Comfort to receive their donation!🐶🐾

Canines for Comfort works with canines to train them for placements that they can best benefit the community. Some of these places include child advocacy centers, and the Delta County Sheriff's Department Victims Service Unit.
