Summer has been training hard and with the help of our wonderful Masseuse New Hope Equine Massage Therapy, fellow trainer and friend Jumping Junipers L.L.C (for all your English needs!), and Free Rein Acres LLC (our much loved and appreciated boarding barn who takes phenomenal care of our mounts!), we were able to place second in Second Flight (coz Summer still baby 💕) at Sewickley Hunt's last hunter pace of the season! This is our first pace ever, but will definitely not be our last!
This filly has beyond exceeded my expectations of her ability and heart! I'm so excited to see where we go this winter working on fine tuning some things and see how far we make it next show season!

We can meet Miss Squirrel here! Squirrel is for sale, but not listing her just yet. She's a super trail horse that leads or follows, goes solo, crosses logs/water, and has a super smooth gait! We're gonna get her fixed up and some weight and muscle put on before we list her though! She's super cute and personable though!

Our lesson program focuses on creating a successful rider who can work with different types of horses, helping them reach their true potential. During a lesson with LMH you'll be doing everything from grooming, tacking, and groundwork to riding. We have a small assortment of lesson horses that work for beginners up to intermediate riders, or even those experienced riders looking to get into a western discipline. We also have an indoor arena so that we can keep putting those hours in, even with our lovely Pennsylvania weather!

The bare basics are the most important part of your horsemanship journey. It's similar to a pyramid, everything you learn creates a strong foundation that is made up of the basics: how you handle, groom, read, and interact with a horse. Once you understand what your basics are, you'll learn how to develop: feel, timing, and release.

During a lesson with LMH your instructor may or may not be on a horse. Some things are better taught by seeing it done instead of explained. Just like the horses, everyone has their own learning style; some are visual learners, whereas others are auditory learners.

Beginner lessons with LMH will ultimately prepare you for owning your own equine partner. When you're ready to find that partner, we can assist you in searching for and finding the perfect horse for you. For more information, ask about our sale services.

During lessons with LMH you'll learn the basics of horse health, care, effective riding, and how to create a solid partnership. When first starting out, you may have a few lessons on the lungeline to focus on building your seat, getting the feel of different gaits, and finding your balance. These are the basics that will keep you in the saddle and off the ground as you progress into more difficult scenarios. As you progress you may be going through a barrel pattern, navigating creek crossings, loping circles at different speeds, etc. The basics LMH teaches can be applied to any discipline you may want to work towards.

LMH also offers the ability for haul-ins so you can work on the partnership between you and your own horse! I chose this photo because it shows an "ah-hah moment" between Loren and her horse Blue. Loren is working on softening Blue up to cues; he rides well but is a little hard-mouthed. Loren is working on herself as well to fix this because she's an over-thinker. Instead of just working on his whoa over and over again, we worked on catching Loren off-guard and asking for the whoa so she didn't get a chance to overthink it! Instead of relying on her hands which she's been conditioned to do, she was able to get a really nice and snappy whoa mainly off her seat!

Our training program focuses solely on the horse. While they're all the same type of animal with similar instincts, there's no two that are exactly alike. We focus on catering our methods to the specific horse we're working with, not just using one technique as a blanket method.

Just like humans, every horse is an individual. Each horse has different preferences, motivators, fears, needs, and personalities. Before swinging a leg over, you should understand the characteristics of the horse you're working with. Understanding what makes your horse do what they do and how they do it makes the whole process from unbroke to broke a million times easier. As a more evolved species, it is much easier to adjust our style to the horse than to fight the horse's natural instincts.

When a horse comes to LMH for training, the first one to three days of it's stay is completely focused on learning the horse and understanding their specific motives. This assessment allows us to ensure the next 27-29 days are productive and are not spent trying to get your horse to understand something in a way that is not conducive to it's performance..

During your horse's stay with LMH, we prefer to work with the rider as well. The key to continuing the training and strengthening your partnership is to be involved. LMH can help ensure that the rider is on the same page as the horse by keeping you involved with the entire training process. While this is not a requirement, the option for one weekly lesson on the horse you have in training is included with the program at no additional cost. This will allow you to learn the customized methods that your horse has been taught so you may continue the training successfully.

The goal at LMH is to create a solid partnership between horse and rider. We look to achieve this by providing you with the tools and techniques necessary for success.

Lead Mare Horsemanship focuses on the horses and creating riders that can learn to do the same! The best rides come from a team with a true partnership. When the rider and horse can both understand what is needed from their other half it creates a pleasant experience for everyone involved. Sure, some people can make a horse do as they tell them to, but it's a whole different game when you can ask or show them what you want and they do it willingly. Join us to explore and discover the different methods and techniques that will create a solid partnership between you and your horse!

LMH is ran by Amanda Galbraith and operated out of At Ease Acres in Rochester, PA. Amanda has 15 years of experience with horses; providing knowledgeable and straight forward horsemanship training and instruction. Amanda has the ability to break things down and take them from complex and possibly confusing to smaller, simple steps that everyone can understand. A calm demeanor and friendly personality are two attributes that make Amanda a good instructor and trainer. She doesn't intimidate nervous/sensitive horses and riders; providing relatable, effective communication to people of all ages and backgrounds that can be easily understood. Amanda's goal with LMH is to create a solid partnership between both horse and rider to reach their full potential as a team.
