HAPPY VET TECH WEEK!!!

This years vet tech week theme is “Credentialed Vet Techs Change Lives” and
I can’t begin to explain how true this is for both pets and people.

I’d like to give a big shout out in particular to our tech Beth. I have worked with Beth in Vet Med since I was a baby vet intern and we have been through a lot together - middle of the night emergencies, crazy general practice shifts, house call practice, blown tires, heart wrenching euthanasias. No matter what we are working through, she is a constant source of grace, empathy, strength and laughter and I am so thankful for her.

To all the vet techs who work hard, love hard and give so much of themselves to practice veterinary medicine: thank you and happy vet tech week!

How do you know if your cat is in pain? Cats are both predators and prey so they often mask signs of pain/illness so the signs we look for can be difficult to notice and very subtle.
Signs can include:
🐈behavior changes (hiding more, not wanting to be pet/interact like usual)
🐈less interest in playing
🐈difficulty or unable to jump up on furniture
🐈sleeping in a hunched position
🐈not using the litter box normally
🐈licking/chewing a certain spot
🐈grooming less
🐈less interested in playing
🐈overall decrease in energy levels/activity

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that is zoonotic (meaning your pet can transmit it to you!). It primarily affects the kidneys and can be transferred via urine from infected animals and can also be found in the soil and water (streams, rivers, lakes - things we have a lot of in Minnesota). We recommend Leptospirosis as a core vaccine for dogs in our area!
