I'm prepared ... are you?

Wildlife often needs rescuing when you least expect it! Be ready to help animals in need by keeping a rescue kit on hand in your home and car. We recommend putting all the items together in an easy-to-reach place.

What you need:
Contact information for the nearest wildlife rehabilitator saved to your phone. Download the Animal Help Now app or visit their website ahnnow.org.
Cardboard box with air holes or a pet carrier. For a box, make sure to secure the top, and poke air holes for ventilation.
Pillowcase or other smooth linen. Do not use bath towels or rags with tiny fabric loops as claws and beaks can snag.
Heat source such as chemical hand warmers. Orphaned animals often cannot regulate their own body temperature.
Thick gloves. Always wear protection when handling wildlife. Leather gloves are perfect to protect from sharp claws, pointy beaks, and disease.
Towel or lightweight blanket. Use this to catch a sick or injured animal by tossing it over the top of the critter. Covering their face helps them stay calm, and gently wrapping them in the large fabric helps contain them.
Personal protective equipment (PPE). Face masks, safety glasses, and hand sanitizer help protect us from the rare chance of contracting something from the patient.

All these items can easily fit inside the carrier or box, and then stash it in the trunk of your car or in a closet. Always call your local wildlife rehabilitation center for advice on rescuing wild critters.

Please spread the word so we can find this pet's family! FOUND on October 1, 2023 in Lee County, FL 33905 near Springline Ln Fort Myers

Message from Finder: Nora is the name associated with her microchip. She may have been renamed when adopted. She was definitely well cared for and clearly misses her family.

Description: Beautiful cat showed up in the neighborhood just after Hurricane Ian. Neighbors were caring for her. She is microchipped, but chip was never registered to new owner. Originally adopted from Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County.

In need of volunteers ... is anyone in need of volunteer hours?

This week, I have my health issues to address. On Thursday I go in for 2 procedures since I have to be knocked out for both, so if you would like to come and help Karissa who will be here on Wednesday or Nancy who will be here on Thursday so I can have these procedures done, that would be so awesome!! I'm supposed to stay in bed on Friday all day and so far.. I have NO help to come!! so I will have to get up and take care of everything unless you can find out in your heart to come and help us here! We may be coming to a crossroads where we will have to make the choice of who stays and who goes if we don't get the help we desperately need!!

The University of Florida Veterinarians is offering free veterinary services daily, from 9 to 5, at Terry Park in Fort Myers. The clinic will continue seven days a week until further notice.

*Update to this post. Dr Ferguson has been very busy! This pup was actually one that had been missing for 9 days!!! He showed up back home in need of veterinary care which his family too him immediately to our mobile clinic at Terry Park.

Dr. Nicole Ferguson (shown here with Animal Services Vet Tech Mary Starkey) has been kind enough to volunteer her time with our team of Veterinarians from the University of Florida at Terry Park.

Thank you to Dr. Ferguson and our clinic staff for saving this pup and the team from UF for continuing to offer vet care at Terry Park!

Lee County Domestiic Animal Services has so many beautiful adult cats who are often overlooked for the cute kittens. But, these beauties come with so many advantages!

You already know their personality and know what kind of cat you are adopting. They are trained as past the pesky kitten and ‘tween’ stages.

During our Clear the Shelters promotion all cats are just $20 and as always adopt one get a feline friend at no additional fee.

Join us on Saturday, August 27th from 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. for our event with NBC2 News and Telemundo when all adoption fees will be waived with an approved application.
