This came through my work chat yesterday as a Continuing Education (CE) opportunity presented by Hill’s.
Here’s why (IMO) this opportunity is not only insulting to veterinary professionals, but harmful for the industry’s reputation.
There is all sorts of talk right now about incentives in vet med. Typically when we think of this within the context of big companies, we think of yachts, and million dollar houses and huge bonuses. Maybe that’s the case for these big wigs on the corporate end, but I promise you those of us on the ground floor aren’t seeing it. Our “thank you” for pushing their products and using their studies is MAYBE worth a $5 coffee to them. Makes sense right?
But my real question is, why is it so important for Hill’s to push this CE course that they’re willing to buy every veterinary professional who takes it coffee? 🤔
We shouldn’t be perpetuating the rumors of “buying out” veterinary professionals. We should be taking CE courses because we’re interested in the topic itself. Not because we’re getting “paid” to take the course.
If we continue down this path, what is that telling the general public about our priorities as veterinary professionals?
