Thankful Thursday! I am very thankful to have had a wonderful 2021 growing season. I grew more and different food for my family this past season than I have in my 18 years of gardening. This season I had a greenhouse for the first time and went wild with trying to grow all the things. I dabbled with growing herbs and flowers more than before. So very thankful for how much the gardens produced and feed not only our bellies but our souls as well.

What are things you are thankful for?

What do you do when you harvest harvest nearly a half bushel of hot peppers?

We smoked them and planning to turn them into different jellies this season. I have made jalapeño jelly and cowboy candy with my fresh hot peppers in the past. Venturing out of my comfort zone and modifying those recipes by using the smoked peppers.

Check back to see what we created with these amazing smelling smoky hot peppers.

As fall sets in I am just in awe of nature and how just beautiful the flowers are this fall. Over the years I have focused mostly on planting fruits and vegetables. The past two years I have been adding more and more flowers. As much as possible I try to include edible flowers. However learning to appreciate the benefit of planting more flowers we have had so many additional pollinators. Also just marvel over the added pops of color and beauty.

Dream with me what flowers should we add? What are your favorites? I enjoy a mix of annual and preannual.

Welcome friends, I am just trying to figure this all out and where I am in the journey. Let me introduce myself. I am a wife, mother, gardener, and I want to be a farmer. I grew up in the country on a small dairy farm in southeastern Michigan. As many in our area the family farm didn't make it to my generation. Speed ahead to many years later I still find the need to get my hands in the dirt and grow ALL the things.

Over the past 18 years I have had all types of garden seasons on my small 1/4 acer lot. Some have been beautiful and bountiful others have been a hot weedy mess. As I reflect this is much the way the journey of life has been. So as I am harvesting the last of my summer 2021 garden and trying to push my limits with Mother Nature for trying my hand with fall gardening I would like to invite you to follow along with me. I am not an expert on anything just gal who wants to grow, harvest, preserve and cook ALL the things for my loved ones.

I hope to inspire others to grow what you can, source as local as you are able to try to live a healthier more sustainable life. Join me on this journey to learn, grow, cook and enjoy the simple pleasures a few seeds, dirt, water and sunshine will give. I still have a lot to learn. It isn't going to be easy but it is so worth the effort!

Best of health, lets get started!
