This clock was a surprise gift from my staff in the early years of Mark Jones Grooming and Animal House. It began it’s life in our Star City shop, followed us from one side of Cheat Lake to the other, and has now landed with us at Oh Paws in Portland.
I’m grateful to have reminders of our past surrounding us as we launch our next business.

Baxter B is one lucky pup! Originally a stray from the streets of Los Angeles, he worked his way into the heart and home of an amazing owner here in Portland. He’s now a happy, well-adjusted gentleman who LOVES treats and his mama!

NAIL TRIMS AT NORMANDALE PARK
Sunday March 8, from 2-6
Mark will be set up next to the white Sprinter van doing nail trims for dogs. No appointment is necessary, but please message me you have a preferred time and I will reserve it.
The fee is $20 and I accept cash, credit and contactless payments .
I also offer house call visits in SE, NE and N Portland, starting at $35 for one dog, and $20 for additional dogs in the same house. They can be neighbors, family, etc , they just have to be scheduled all at the same time.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you! My wife, Brooklyn, Waka and I have been exploring the Pacific Northwest and spending lots of time with our grandkids. This photo is Mt Hood, and has been one of our favorite places to camp, bike and hike. We miss you all and hope you're well!

Today was the end of the road for our Bruce Almighty
He joined our pack in 2016 at the age of 13, and his name was Brutus. We called him many names, but usually Bruce.
He was not abandoned, quite the contrary. He was loved from puppy to age 13 by one man, who in 2016 was in a medical crisis and needed to be hospitalized. Bruce had destructive habits during thunderstorms, and friends who tried to help by watching him became unable to help further. We heard many tales about his destruction, and those stories eventually made it impossible to find someone to watch him while his dad sought the medical help he needed. Bruce and his dad were in crisis, and the man was not willing to leave his dog to seek help for himself.
When we heard his story we decided to take Brutus in: to give a sweet dog some stability at the end of his life, and his owner a fair shot at recovery. Well, our boy liked his new pack, eagerly went to work every day, and LOVED road trips. He never met a dog or person that he didn’t like. When we bought the van last year, we wondered how he would travel, knowing we’d be doing a lot of it! It turns out , he was a go-dog. Big time. He traveled to the beach at least 4 times, had countless trips to the mountains, and went on lots of other fun family trips. Our grandson Clive formed a strong relationship with him on 2 trips this summer. We feel lucky to have known him, lucky to have had him for so long, and lucky to have a compassionate, competent veterinarian like Dr. Owen at Hillcrest Vet to give him the peaceful, beautiful ending that he deserves. This is our gift to him, after all that he gave us.
These photos and videos show a little bit of his sweet, gentle nature. In my memory, his soulfulness will be his finest trait. Rest In Peace, my boy.

A message from Char:

For the past 18 years and 3 months, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Mark Jones. It has been an incredible ride.
I have been so grateful to be able to go to a job that I have loved for that long. I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to groom and love your babies.
To have been a part of a working team , those past and present, has taught me so much. I want to thank you all.
You all have given me so much happiness through out the years.
I however, will no longer be grooming dogs. I’m on to the next adventure in my life. Let’s hope it is at least half as exciting and fulfilling as these past 18 years have been.
Thank you for trusting me with the care of your babies. It was an honor.
Best of luck to you all, I will miss you.

We are happy to announce that Fantasia and Melissa will be working together at Pampered 4 Paws!
F***y is a fiercely strong dog bather/dryer/handler who has super powers, and dogs love her. She worked with us for almost 5 years- she knows her s**t!
Melissa is a skilled groomer who joined us as a grooming assistant over a year ago, and has really shined with us. P4P and Morgantown are lucky to have her talents, and we are sure she will soar as a finish groomer.
We wish both of these women all the best !

It’s the end of an era!
Mark Jones Grooming is closed for good.
It was befitting to spend the day with some of my favorite Goldens!

13 years ago I started grooming this perfect doodle, Sooner C, back when doodles weren’t so popular. She has an amazing, calming spirit. So calm, that she falls asleep while I’m grooming her, while she’s standing up. Her brother Oliver, has been coming to see Uncle Mark since he was a young pup almost 13 years ago. He’s a little more rambunctious and he is not camera shy....as you can tell. Look at that smile😁. Their predecessors were just as perfect as they are. We often joke amongst the groom shop about us letting their mom pick our next dog out. How does one get lucky enough to have a perfect dog EVERY SINGLE TIME?

Rumors of our closing shop are swirling, and some of them are true! We are getting close to a closing date, and we should know specifics very soon. We will make announcement and recommendations when we know more.

Some facts about Mark Jones Grooming:

I graduated from WVU in December 1994, and opened this business in March 1995 with hopes of avoiding law school.

Retired Morgantown groomer JB Fisher was my grooming mentor.

I hired my first employee, Monica Maxwell, in 1996. I’d like to count how many more there have been since...

My career dream while in college was to work for myself, in a business which allowed me to maintain integrity.

Char Brancheck Yauger came to work with us in 2001, and has been my trusted partner, true friend, and wicked skilled groomer ever since. I won’t know what to do without her.

I have been tracking all of my statistics since the beginning, and I’m not quite going to hit 2 million nails trimmed, but close!
