Blossoming Gem's Maltese My mom (Joan) and I (Meghann) are a mother daughter team. We are located in SC (Meghann) & NC(Joan). We are a mother(Joan), daughter(Meghann) team.

Joan’s life long dream was to have her own show line. After Ziggi came into our lives 13 years ago, we knew maltese was the breed to fulfill that dream. We have been working on our own line of show quality maltese. We started showing our two newest additions once shows opened back up from Covid this past fall. We are all learning so much. Alexis (granddaughter) is now showing in confirmation and j

unior showmanship. Tyler (grandson) is starting to show in juniors in his off season of his sports. Olivia (granddaughter) our youngest is now 5 and showing in Peewee. We are now a three generation team. Our maltese are our loving pets who are part of our family. Our maltese Lizzy, Maggie, Big Mac, and Yoggi live with Joan. Our maltese Daisy, Cally, Lily, Davinci, and Howie live with Meghann.

My name is Meghann Moore, and I am going to be working as your AMA RX editor. A little background about me. Even though I am not the type of person to talk about myself much, I do talk about my kids and dogs a lot. I have been an AMA member since the 2022 AMA National Annual Meeting but our family has loved the maltese breed for almost two decades. My mom’s dream growing up was to show dogs and when she came up with the crazy idea for her and I to start showing around 9 years ago, I dove headfirst. After years of researching and going to shows, we finally had our own to show but everything shut down for Covid as soon as they were old enough. I finally got in the ring in fall 2020. Since we started showing we have met some of the most amazing people and with their guidance we have finished 5 maltese and one to his grand. We finished our first bred by this past October, three years after getting in the ring the first time, and our second bred by finished this past weekend in the hands of my youngest. I stay busy with my three kids, two of which are actively showing Olivia(8) and Alexis(14) and my son, Tyler (17), stays busy with sports, activities, and work, but helps (plays) with the dogs and volunteers at our local kennel club. I am a researcher and artist at heart but learn and succeed with everything I can with tech, admin, and marketing to help with mine and my husband’s electrical company and my family’s restaurants. I volunteer as a girl scout troop leader for both my girls’ troops, a room parent for Olivia’s class, Junior Showmanship Chair and multiple Assistant Chairs at Greenville Kennel Club, and now serve as a Co-Chair for the Maltese Club of Greater Miami’s IT Committee. I also substituted as needed (sometimes every day) at my children’s schools. In the past I worked in Atlanta repairing medical equipment and around Lake Hartwell as an office manager for multiple real estate groups but my life has become mainly about my dogs and kids.

Winston Salem Show in Mid September. Lena received BOB Saturday and Daffodil was handled by Olivia and on Sunday she got her to BOB. Olivia was over the moon to get her ribbons and begged to show in groups. She was such a professional.

We do have puppies ready to go home. We have 1 girl and 2 boys. Turned 5 months old today. Their mother is our champion, Scarlett. All have great personalities, raised in home. They are fully vaccinated with all their puppy shots and had four vet check ups. My mom and I do this together with my girls. This litter is located at my mom’s in Hendersonville, North Carolina. They are well traveled and used to being in the car. They are crate trained. They are great using the pad but now they also use a doggie door to a small private potty area outside. They’ve done really well about not having accidents inside.

Sorry, it’s been a while since I posted. We’ve had a busy few months.
Here are some pictures from the Greenville kennel club show at the end of July. Our little Leo got his championship while we were there. Alexis and Olivia were on TV live. Alexis showed great in juniors and made the cut on the one day she was able to show. Olivia showed in peewee and both of the girls showed in breed with my mom and I and a couple amazing maltese exhibitors. We had so many people coming up, saying how awesome it was that three generations were all showing in the same ring.

We are so proud to be a member of such an amazing group of maltese lovers and dedicated preservation breeders.
Our puppies are raised in our homes and we are extremely picky on where our puppies go. They don’t go home until 12 weeks or later and we will keep them for however long it takes to find the perfect fit. The families we pick become part of ours.

As show breeders, we are often asked how puppy buyers can tell if a breeder is reputable or not. There are multiple resources available to puppy buyers and that most valuable resource is going to be through contact with the AKC national breed club like the American Maltese Association.

So why buy from a show breeder? Show breeders are more concerned with the health and emotional well-being of our puppies than someone who is just breeding puppies for profit.

How do you tell if a breeder is good one?
Do your research before inquiring about a puppy. If you’re wanting a puppy to go on 5-mile runs with you each morning, a Maltese may not be the breed you’re looking for.

Don’t be offended when a breeder asks you several questions about yourself, your lifestyle, and your family situation. A reputable breeder is going to be more concerned with the longterm health and well-being of the puppy, not just interested in making a sale. A reputable breeder looks for a lifetime commitment but is also open to taking the puppy back if your situation ever changes.

A reputable breeder will not be more concerned with “getting their life back” by placing puppies before puppies are at least 12 weeks old. While Maltese puppies do not nurse on their mothers that long, they are still watching and learning from their mother while being socialized by the breeder and getting necessary vaccinations.

A reputable breeder will always be willing to provide references from other breeders and past puppy buyers.

A reputable breeder will always be a resource and a lifetime mentor to their puppy buyers.

Happy 5th Birthday to our Maggie! She is active, super smart, and always wanting attention. She is the other adult we are considering rehoming to the right family. She is well loved and lives at my mom’s home but wants and needs more attention.

Can’t believe how time flies! Lily is 5 years old today!
She has been spayed and we may consider placing her in a pet home, only to the perfect family so she can have more one on one time she deserves.

Just in case you missed my comment.

Thank you everyone! I am located in Anderson, SC. We are only wanting her placed somewhere within a couple hour drive of us. But if you are interested in filling out a questionnaire please send a message and I will send it to you. We just got back from a 4 day show (I will post pictures soon)and getting packed to leave for another 3 day show so I may not have time to get back to you right away.

Our little Leo(mouth of the house) is getting ready for the ring next week. His hair is getting so close to being to the ground. He did great in handling class tonight and we can’t wait to see what he does next week at the show.
Breeder of our little Leo (and also our wonderful Mentor) is Blue Hill’s Maltese.
