Since opening in 2020, a Chaffee County non-profit has helped over 40 veterans find purpose in life after service with an approach that integrates faith-based intervention and equine therapy.

🏔️ THE JOURNEY — For those needing a focused week to themselves to process, find clarity, and gain the perspective they need to move past personal challenges such as PTSD, mental health, or traumatic experiences from military service. Paired with a seasoned mentor, Journey participants experience tailored adventures, deep and encouraging discussions, and strengthened faith in God.
🏔️🏔️ WARRIOR SUMMIT - For small groups of veterans seeking what’s next. If you’re asking the questions, “Where do I fit now that I’m not in the military?” or “What is God’s purpose for me as a veteran?” then this week is for you! Dive deep with others who “get it” and experience the perfect blend of rest and adventure as you seek your “God-sized goals” for what’s next.
🏔️🏔️🏔️ RIDGELINE RETREAT- For military families with teens needing a few days away to reconnect and build strong, thriving relationships. Plenty of time for adventure and those sometimes-hard family discussions.

Meet Copper - the newest member of the Mountains Move herd! 🐴
We are thrilled to announce the adoption of two wild mustangs from the Bureau of Land Management Online Corral! The team will pick up Huron (you met him yesterday!) and Copper from Paul’s Valley, OK on May 14. Our experienced horse trainer, Daniel Dailey, will be working with these beautiful animals at our new training facility in Oklahoma this summer. 🌞
We chose the name "Copper" for its chemical catalyst properties used to strengthen metals. These catalyst names are chosen to highlight resiliency, strength, and determination—traits that both our veterans and our mustangs know very well. 🏔

We chose the name Huron to symbolize the determination and resilience it takes to climb the mountain of veteran su***des. 🏔 Mount Huron is a 14,000 foot peak here in Colorado, just north of our Nathrop, Colorado location. Mountain names also symbolize our Colorado heritage and the mountainous regions that our mustangs hail from.

17 veterans die by su***de every day, and one in four veterans struggle with a mental health disorder. 11% of veterans battle depression and 20% of veterans who served in Iraq or Afghanistan experience PTSD. In addition to these incredible struggles, veterans also tend towards isolation, experiencing family and relational hardships, and a deep feeling of loss of purpose upon leaving the military.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Mountains Move recognizes the inner war too many of our veterans face on a daily basis. Mountains Move exists to provide our veterans with new perspectives, awaken them to their God-given purposes and callings, strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ, and build lasting relationships with each veteran—building a life-giving community of veterans helping veterans overcome their inner battles and thrive in their homes and communities.

After pulling back during a training exercise, Denali’s lead rope got caught up under her legs and scared her. After a bit of a rodeo, she calmed down chose to stand still and allow Heath to help her and reassure her that the lead rope wasn’t there to bite her. Sometimes we can become fearful and anxious as well….especially in circumstances or with emotions we feel are out of our control. Denali reminded us today that God is present. He sees where we are and what we are going through, and He wants so much to help us, to comfort us, and provide us with the peace of His presence. What can you trust God with today?
