NBOB CHF GRCH Des Plaines’ J’ai Ceci TAN WRT - “Rip”

We will be offering 4 deposits on THE LAST planned live cover breeding of Rip. Rip is and always has been the benchmark and gold standard of our breeding philosophy. In natural ability he was basically born a broke hunting dog. He is a hard hunter even at ten years of age. The deepest nose to ever scent a bird. If there’s a bird to be found he finds it. He never fails a retrieve. In temperament he is a saint. Smart, biddable, with the most innate desire to carry out his mission and to please his handler I’ve ever experienced. Well mannered with humans and dogs alike. In conformation and health close to perfect in the standard to behold, and in ten years his only visits to the vet have been annual check ups. He still enjoys hunting with us every season and hunts like a dog half his age.

While this will be his last live cover, It is our plan to collect and store a limited amount frozen semen.

The breeding will be a repeat with our Du Bosquet Princesse Des Champs TAN - a beautiful and talented hunter - granddaughter of two EB legends each with multiple GRCHF titles Vernon l’Escarbot and TopperLyn Gallant Bodacious - the previous breeding having produced a litter of stellar gun dogs, including Shiloh dans le Bosquet, a previous winner of the annual Pheasant Championship trial run on wild birds in Iowa. We are privileged that some of the most wonderful EB people in the EB universe gave him a home where he is being lovingly developed into a stellar hunting and trialing dog. This is the last week Lloyd will be offered at puppy price. We will be starting some meaningful conditioning next week - crate training, house breaking, learning about collars and leashes, some walks in the field where we just may bump into a bird or two. As the saying goes “more time = more money.”😉 Of course Lloyd will think it’s all in a day’s play. 🙂

In case you were wondering how I feel about my dogs.

There is one member of Martin and Katie Luther’s household that we normally don’t hear to much about - the family dog.

At some point, Luther adopted a dog whom he affectionately called Tölpel, which translates to English as “fool”. Whether this name was indicative of the dog’s personality or meant as an ironic joke isn’t clear. In either case, Tölpel was a full member of the family who apparently followed his master around the Black Cloister and played with the Luther children.

Tölpel, and dogs in general were occasionally mentioned by Luther in his famous Table Talks. We include a few of these quotes here:

“The dog is the most faithful of animals and would be much esteemed were dogs not so common. Our Lord God has made His greatest gifts the commonest.”

When Luther's dog Tölpel happened to be at the table, he looked for a morsel from his master, and watched with open mouth and motionless eyes, Luther said, "Oh, if I could only pray the way this dog watches the meat! All his thoughts are concentrated on the piece of meat. Otherwise he has no thought, wish, or hope.”

And then when one little boy asked Luther about if his puppy would go to heaven too, Luther patted the dog on the head and said, “Be thou comforted, little dog, Thou too in Resurrection shall have a little golden tail.”
