Experimenting with basswood. Diego gets to be my guinea pig. This should keep him busy while I'm out running errands. Basswood is a soft wood that's hardness is somewhere between pine and balsa. It should be perfect for delicate chewers.

Chewsie has been invited to participate in the Oasis bird bird toy drive and of course, I couldn't say no. 🙂 I was thrilled to be included. As a volunteer and supporter of the sanctuary I know firsthand what type of toys are needed. I have designed the "Colossal" toy collection especially for this drive. For every 4 toys ordered, I will donate one additional toy of the same type. I will be delivering these toys in person so no shipping charges apply! Care package for Rocco and his soon to-be-brother, Axel. Rocco recently became an orphan when his mom passed away. He's making a voyage all the way from Phoenix, AZ to upstate NY to his amazing new home with Kelli Samson.

Successful trip to purchase supplies for toys and perches to donate for the Cottonwood 15 at the A Tropical Concept Exotic Bird Rescue today! I pray that the weather will clear up tomorrow so I can get working. It's been inconveniently raining in Scottsdale.

This poor little guy was just surrendered to the rescue. What you see is what he was left with. No food, no financial assistance for his care. We are going to try and get him an emergency vet visit in the morning. If anyone would be willing to help us out with medical care, he has an open wound at the base of his wing. We don't know if it's some sort of tumor or possibly even a broken bone. Will post pics in the comments, warning graphic pictures. Our PayPal is [email protected] thank you for your support.

Chewsie has some really exciting news! Starting this coming Monday, select toys will be available at The Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic in Mesa. As many of you know, online was the only way to purchase the toys. Now you can see and feel the toys for yourself at the clinic. All of the toys you see in these photos are headed for the clinic. You'll find a variety of toys including sturdy wood toys and easy to shred toys that are perfect for foraging.

I'm usually behind the camera, but these toys really needed a person in the picture to show off their huge size. Introducing the Slim Jim Max XL and the Pterodactl. These 2 toys are made from soft pine wood pieces and strung on cotton rope and sisal, but can be customized with stainless steel chain. Both were created with a specific customer's macaw in mind, but I think it's time to offer them to everyone. They're too great not to share!

We have an amazing breakthrough! As expected, Congo loves the cardboard toy he tested yesterday. What I didn't expect was for him to love this wood and mahogany toy this much. I've tried all sizes and shapes to pique his interest with not a lot of success. As you can see, he is down to just 2 wood blocks from this brand new toy.. He attacked this toy like I have never seen him attack a wood toy before. He just kept chipping away. I am absolutely overjoyed and will be adding this one to the website very soon. Grey tested. Grey approved!

In honor of Mark Anderson, who recently passed away due to injuries sustained in a car accident a few weeks ago, these huge hardwood toys headed down to the The Oasis Sanctuary today. In lieu of flowers, his family asked for donations to the Oasis and I couldn't think of anything better than big bird toys for the macaws and cockatoos. Mark loved his boy, Bandit pictured here with him and had a huge heart for the birds there. I hope Mark is looking down and smiling right now. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Sneak peek at some of the items I'm donating for the upcoming "Discover the Oasis" auction benefitting The Oasis Sanctuary . These foraging toy trios are made from pine wood, corrugated paper, yucca, mahogany pod slices, acrylic beads, cotton rope, pistachios and stainless steel. You won't find anything like it in stores. Each toy is meticulously hand crafted and dyed with only human grade food coloring. Each toy offers an opportunity to forage for pistachios. One toy mounts to the side of the cage and comes with 4 pistachios to load from the back and 2 are pre-filled, hanging toys of different difficulty levels.

Check it out! The Oasis is holding their annual "Discover the Oasis" event online this year! I will miss being able to attend in person, but with the event being online, anyone can attend virtually, from anywhere. This is a wonderful way to learn about the organization and there will be a silent auction with all kinds of fun parrot themed items including toys from Chewsie! I'm so excited to be able to donate some really special toys for such a great cause.
