This was a really cool session.
Miss Lisa did amazing with teaching Axel place.
The End Goal is for miss Lisa to say “place” and Axel walk over and relax on the bed.
One way I teach people this is to first ☝️ Drain your dogs energy so that they are more in a resting recovery state of mind when you introduce them and bring them on the bed.
NOT when they are full of energy. If they are full of energy then having them go to a bed to Rest and Recover would make no sense to them because they have to drain energy.
Next I would sit some distance away from the bed but not too far. I would usually start by going to the end of the leash (just holding the handle or closer.) but this all depends on the dog.
Sometimes I stay closer And for Axel we could go further than the leash and just address when needed. We didn’t have to stay on him as much. This was also not his first time doing it either. First time we did he got on and just relaxed and laid down.
A dog who is testing out everything more I may stay closer to because I need to make sure my timing of when I disagree with them getting off of the bed is good.
I usually start moving further away when the dog stays there longer and is much more relaxed
With Axel he got it pretty quick because we introduced it correctly.
When I teach my clients how to disagree with the dog when they get off place I usually have them use any sound that makes them feel calm and confident and then Put the dog back onto the bed.
I’ll do a whole video with a puppy soon on how I go about this. This is just a gist of it.
Hope this makes sense! Please leave your questions or comments under! ⬇️
Just watch our calmness in this video. I have muted it because the sound is in important.
Happy #nationalpetday2021
Have a great day guys!
SLOWING THE BRAIN DOWN!
How many times have you had to let your self slow down? Probably a handful ATLEAST. Now think of all the Dogs who are seriously charged up and anxious.
It isn’t fun if we just have Green Lights all the time without Yellow or even Red Lights to slow us down to regroup.
We were doing something similar with Axel.
Slowing the Brain Down and allowing them to relax is a good chunk of building and maintaining a healthy and relationship with our Dogs. 🐶
In this video I telling miss Lisa how to slow his Brain Down and control his speed a bit.
She did really good once she learned the technique and had that “Aha” moment. 💡
The moment the clients make that connection is so amazing to me.
We are helping Axel get to a point where he sees humans and dogs as calmness and is neutral to all of them.
The biggest issues that we have been working on is him getting excited with other dogs and people
He also can be a little unsure and so sometimes if he is under some pressure ( people walking by super close, someone staring, dogs coming into a proximity) he sometimes lunges and barks.
BUT we are working on that!
His excitement is what I feel is feeding that unsureness and making it more intense.
For instance after we drained some of his energy he was way more able to just chill beside people walking And even dogs.
I also wanted to point out that in this situation I feel a correction was really needed. We just wanted him to slow down.
You can see in the last part of the video Axel is walking way more calm and relaxed by her side.
This is what I want for all of my clients.
Miss Lisa has been doing SO good with her dog Axel and they have been making so much progress!
Let me know if you guys want to see more of this!
