A family of huge, robust birds known as pigeons has a meaty beak and broad wings. The common wood pigeon, rock pigeon, and mourning dove are a few of the species that congregate close to human cities and towns, but there are more than 340 species of pigeons in total, many of which are endemic to the Asian Pacific region and are rarely observed by people. This article will attempt to cover some general information about what pigeons eat and how they eat it, whether they live in the city or in the wild. Pigeons are so numerous and diverse that it is difficult to summarize anything specific about their diet as a whole.
Typical pigeon illnesses
1) Coccidiosis
Causes: Food poisoning is the main reason why cocciodosis occurs. Therefore, be careful to always offer good, healthy feed. Through contact with or consumption of infected excrement or tissue, the infection is quickly disseminated. Ensure that every pigeon with cocciodosis is quarantined.
SYMPTOMS: The first noticeable symptom is diarrhea, which in extreme cases may be bloody.
2) Trichomoniasis
Causes: The main causes are contaminated drinking water (refresh the water frequently) or a parent feeding a child who is ill.
SYMPTOMS: abrupt death (remove the pigeon as soon as possible), lack of appetite, weight loss, or a tense expression.
3) Worms
Causes:This (annoying) pigeon ailment is brought on by contaminated food, infectious animal droppings, and eating insects.
Symptoms include diarrhoea, worms in the droppings, loss of weight, lowered performance, and a weak and unwell appearance.
4) Ornithosis
Causes:If urine or f***s particles are aerosolized and breathed in by people or animals, it can spread through the air. The disease can also be transferred from beak to beak. Any diseased pigeon needs to be confined right once to prevent
SYMPTOMS: ruffled facial expressions, diarrhea, inflammation, fever, nasal discharge, reduced appetite, strange breathing noises, and shedding.
5) Mycoplasmosis
Causes:Feed, water, f***s, and equipment that are contaminated.
SYMPTOMS: Wheezing sounds, throat irritation, poor performance, unwillingness to fly, nasal discharges, and strange flying movements.
6) Salmonellosis
Causes:contaminated food, water, and excrement.
Limping, strange flying motions, decreased hunger, weight loss, and diarrhea are symptoms.
7) E-coli
Causes:contaminated food and water. Additionally, a pigeon that is under a lot of stress—from moving to a new loft, having too many pigeons in one loft, changing their diet, rigorous training, etc.—develops an illness more quickly. The pigeon becomes more vulnerable to E. coli because stress weakens its immune system.
Symptoms include a weakened immune system and an increase in sick pigeons.
8) Hexamitiasis
Causes: contaminated food, water, and excrement.
Symptoms include weight loss, dry skin, and watery (yellow) diarrhea.
9)Necrotic Enteritis
Causes:The bacteria can also be found in excrement, dust, soil, food, and water. As a result, infection prevention is challenging. Giving out preventative treatments is simpler.
SYMPTOMS: diarrhoea, elevated mortality rate, depression, and agitated demeanor.
10) Colibacillosis
Causes: Infection can also be brought on by inhalation. Infected food, water, and f***s.
Symptoms include a weakened immune system, a rise in sick pigeons, and an increase in body cavity fluid (swollen bodyparts).
