As we approach the season of thankfulness 🍂🍁🦃, we must acknowledge one of our biggest behind-the-scene National Finals local committee strengths, Lydia Romero. Lydia was basically on every committee and filling in spaces wherever it was needed. She helped organize, fill gaps, oversee activities, problem solve, and add class and grace wherever she went. Greg and Lydia hosted handler’s, offered sheep time, provided USBCHA office onsite, worked every minute of every day, hustled sponsors, sponsorsed dogs and adverts, thanked dog sponsors, worked in the merchandise booth, provided water top offs for the >100 campers onsite and was an indispensable asset to this event. A mere thank you seems to fall short. Lydia (and Greg) you personally helped make this event epic!!! !

Cheers to another pillar behind the scenes for our 2022 Finals, Glynis Wileman. Not only was Glynis a ’head-hunter’ for sponsors and advertising, she was all things print worthy. Glynis was a PR guru, and fully responsible for our quality program. (None of which was easy post-CoVid!!!) Pictured here with Dr. Paul who was also an amazing volunteer. 🥂

A quiet strong man Daniel Holley was the designated shepherd for our USBCHA National Sheepdog Finals. The entire flock was his responsibility. You may not have seen Daniel because he was not in the lime light, he was moving sheep water and tending to their wellbeing 24 hours a day. When coyotes yipped or bears ran, it was Daniel who checked. Thank you for your behind the scenes diligence ❤️

A huge shout out of gratitude goes to those individuals/groups who helped support the vision of the Nevada venue early on. The CoVid cancellation and the generous head nod to allow Virginia our designated year, set us down a new track. Thank you Bridget Strang and crew for your moral and financial support early on helping us soldier through with a very successful National Finals Event!

Once again , we are so grateful to the wonderful people and businesses that support our sport. Have you been to Kerry Hill Winery? If you are ever in that area be sure to stop by.

In fact, we sponsored the National Sheepdog Finals this past weekend in Minden, NV. Bonus: If you haven’t marked your calendar yet, do so for the first week in December when we host our annual sanctioned trial.🐑

Can we all just agree on what great merchandise was available and that the logo couldn't have been better!

Thank you to our Merchandise All-Star Team Shauna Wilson & Lisa Berglund. (And Lisa - your logo was spot on!)

And THANK YOU to the entire crew who manned the merch booth! Karrin Burns, Carolyn Craig, Elizabeth Baker, Joyce Gavin, Laura & Linda, Zigi Scott, Shawna Halverson, Deb Millsap and Lydia Romero!

Thank you to Dave Imas and his tireless exhaust crew who kept the sheep moving off the field in a timely manner so the trial could march on. Thank you to everyone who took a shift or 5.

Amy Coapman & Billy Ann Trent handled all shifts, except one on the nursery field.

And Josh Gibson was staked out under the open field exhaust tent more than I'm sure he wanted.

And thank you to everyone else who stepped up as well: Wendy Schmaltz, Jamie Spring, Jenny Glen, Chris Jobe, Kristin Sittner, David Leejohnson, Bridget Strang, Rebecca Gibson, Rochelle Stanford, Julie Grenfell, Terry Murray...Dave apologizes ahead of time if his memory failed him and left anyone off the list.

Course Director’s are responsible for orchestrating the flow of a trial field. They ensure handlers are ready to go, communicate with set-out and exhaust, and manage all actives on the trial field from the first to the final dog.

Thank you Michael Meredith on the open field and Gloria Atwater on nursery for bringing a cool head and great organization to the daily runs.

Regardless of what you call it...Up Top, The Pens or Set-Out...I think we can all agree, the sheep crew on both fields did a fabulous job.

Lead by Trial Co-Host Sandra Massie with over 50 years sheep experience, it's no surprise she ensured sheep entered the field calmly all week long.

A pair of Ontario gents, Mike Crellian & John Palmer handled the open field all week. I'm not sure we want to know how many miles John put on, but I'm sure he wore the soles off his boots.

On the nursery field, and then joining in for the double lift, were the west coast trio of Connie Fontaine and Carol Leyh setting with Virginia Dains handling sheep.

We can't thank each of these individuals enough in doing their part to ensure that each handler received an even and quiet set of sheep. Thank you to everyone who helped Up Top!

Someone, get these folks a foot massage!

To the Borda, Gavin, Johnson Families...Thank You just doesn't feel like enough.

Maybe the easiest part they did was to provide 1,000 consistent, healthy and challenging Merino ewes...and don't forget, they actually had ewes ready two years in a row due to the COVID set back. (we know this was no easy task)

But they didn't stop there:
-they assisted with programs
-hosted the Handlers Meet & Greet
-arranged the daily food trucks
-organized USBCHA Handlers dinner (Brothers BBQ) and served (including Borda Family Chorizo)
-assisted with the Opening Ceremonies
-and so much more that we probably aren't even aware of

Thank you Borda, Gavin & Johnson families for welcoming the sheepdog community and helping to make this event happen.

We couldn't have done it without you!

As the dust has settled and we look back at the USBCHA National Sheepdog Finals that were held just over a week ago, we can't help but feel a sense of pride, and a touch of emotion, thinking about all the tired feet that went into making this event happen.

We hope you will join us over the next few weeks as we highlight the army of volunteers who made the finals in Minden possible.

We'd like to start with David Park of Park Ranch, who set the stage for the event. As most of you know, we had a somewhat last minute venue change, and lucky for us, David swept in and was happy to provide fields for the trials and camping.

THANK YOU David for opening up Park Ranch and inviting the National Finals into your back 40!
