Update:
We are heartbroken. We couldn’t save Olive. Her respiratory distress was causing her so much suffering. We had so much hope yesterday morning as it appeared the medications were improving her inflammation. But the fungal infection in her lungs proved to be fatal.
In the world of animal rescue, we come across so many animals who are neglected by the people who should give them what they deserve. They do not treat them like family, they do not provide vet care, they do not spay and neuter, and at times, they even hurt them.
At Dobie Defenders, we try to make up for these broken promises. We use every resource we can to make it right. It wasn’t enough for Olive. A fungal infection can be brewing for months before they are symptomatic.
We take small comfort in knowing that she experienced extraordinary love with her foster, Rebecca, in the last several months. She got to play, eat great food, get all the cuddles, have regular baths and vetting, and she was LOVED. Deeply, truly and well loved.
For all of those who donated to our efforts to save her, we thank you. It mattered. It mattered to her and those who love her. And it helped with her end of life costs.
When we agree to take a dog, we agree to treat them as if they are our family. And today we lost a family member.
🐾Olive Update: 🐾
Well.. she’s on her way back to the hospital.
Olive’s foster kept a close watch on her all night, with near constant monitoring. Her fever improved along with the swelling in her leg. However, as the day progressed her breathing worsened and she is now back at NVS.
After testing, aspirations, imaging, and cytology she was diagnosed with fungal blastomycosis yesterday. It has moved into her lungs and lymph nodes and is behind the swelling in her leg and nosebleeds, as well as the myriad of other strange symptoms. We are fortunate to have access fantastic internist at NVS to help diagnose this. This girl had a rough start before coming to rescue & she deserves this chance at life.
Can you help us reach our goal to continue life saving care?
Any amount helps. $5 and $10 donations add up! If you have ever had to hospitalize your dog, you know how long term treatment can quickly snowball. Yesterday and today we raised about $829 towards her care on all platforms, and we are so grateful, and it REALLY helped us out with the first ER bill. Listen! So many people did small donations and it seriously added up. No amount is too small. Every time we see a donation of any kind, of any amount, we are truly and deeply grateful.
We have approximately 2k followers and if half of those followers chipped in $5 dollars, we would be able to cover the early part of this life saving treatment. Also, if you cannot afford to donate, liking, sharing, and interacting with this post helps us reach more people.
