Dobie Defenders is a 501(c)3 charitable organization in the state of Tennessee. Our primary focus is the rescue and rehabilitation of Doberman Pinschers.
We are a 100% foster based rescue and do not have a rescue facility or primary location.

It’s been a heck of a week & it took an army, including my junior rescue assistant here, but 7 sweet souls are on their way to a better life. Thank you to all who helped us along the way, and Wise County Animal Shelter for taking such good care of them until we got there.
Mom, Dad, and Pups are currently settling into their foster homes. They will need thorough vetting and lots of confidence building before being ready for adoption.

Thank you to the kind souls who pulled everything together and transported 7 dogs to Knoxville. All 5 puppies from this sweet Mom have committed fosters, as well as the Dad to the puppies.
As of right now, Mom (I’m calling her Cordelia for the moment), has a temporary foster this week in Knoxville, but we need to secure another placement for her ASAP.
She’s sweet, cuddly, and timid and needs some major TLC and a soft place to land.
We will cover all expenses, she just needs your love:) ❤️
This sweet 18mo old Mama still needs a committed foster. She is sweet, has lived with children as a family pet. She whelped approximately 2 months ago. Shelter staff tell us she is completely non reactive with other dogs, calm, and likes to be around people.
She is still a pup. Who wants to step up for her?
UPDATE 7/22/24- Daddy & puppies have been placed with fosters. Mama is being boarded at home with a trainer until we find a more permanent foster.
Another day, another plea for fosters.
18mo old male and female (parents) + 5 pups -3 female, 2 male need immediate placement.
Pups are approximately 2 months old and weaned per the shelter so they can be separated.
We pay for everything when the dog is in foster care, you love them and take them to vet appointments, care for them, and give them a soft place to lay their head. Do you have room in your home and heart?

You might remember that we were trying to place a little guy found in a crate on the side of the road.
We are happy to report he is safe in foster, has been to the vet, and is settling in nicely. He is a sweet, cuddly, and is enjoying all the attention he is receiving. Thanks you to everyone who stepped up to help this guy when he needed it the most.

Young 4-8 month old black & tan Male is in need of immediate placement. Was found on the side of a freeway in his crate with no shade last week.
Landlord is threatening to kick out Good Samaritan who is housing him for violating their lease. Must have placement immediately.
Good with other male dogs and human children. Has been living with a 5 year old child and unaltered male mastiff for the last week with no issues. Also seems to be potty trained.

7 week old black and tan male with rib injury causing paralysis in hind legs. It is not uncommon for dogs this age to be healed and lead normal lives with proper treatment and medical intervention.
Fosters must commit to a potentially tough, and lengthy rehabilitation. He will need a lot of work right now and will not be able to be left alone for long periods of time. He is very young, and is not potty trained.
We do offer fosters first rights to adopt.

Sweet Roxy is out of the hospital and continuing her quarantine at home with her new foster dad. She is a very sweet and affectionate, Velcro doberlady & is recovering extremely well!

Sweet Roxie, one of the parvo puppies is in need of a foster home! She will be discharged from the hospital this week! Up until friday she must remain in the Charlotte area as she is still technically on stray hold.
She still has treatment ahead of her, and her bills are stacking up, so donations towards her care are still very much appreciated. We cannot thank those of you who have donated enough 😊
Every person who has come into contact with her gushes about what an adorable, sweet, & special girl she is. Everyone loves her!
Her foster home cannot have any puppies/young dogs, immune comprimised dogs, and all pets must be up to date on vaccinations. She can not be allowed in public spaces or shared yards as she has not tested negative yet, and could potentially infect a young or unvaccinated dog.
Canine parvo virus cannot be transmitted to humans or other species of animals, it only effects dogs. However it is highly contagious amongst unvaccinated dogs.
While you foster we pay for every cost associated with the dog. You love & care for them and take them to the vet

Many of you have been following and have graciously donated in our efforts to save these 2 pups found abandoned and very sick with parvo. We named them Roxie (red) & Riley (black).
Despite our best efforts, We sadly lost Riley this morning. You can read more about it in our previous post.
Roxie came in clearly better off than Riley, but we figured it was only a matter of time before she too was positive for parvo. Unfortunately we were right. Roxie is now positive. She was given monoclonal antibodies, which has been effective in hospitalized dogs if given at the onset of symptoms, and helps them fight the illness but does not cure them.
Roxie’s white blood cells have taken a big hit, which is normal for parvo, she also had a high fever and was given a cocktail of antibiotics along with an appetite stimulant to get her to eat. Thankfully she ate some chicken as I was speaking with the vet this morning.
She has remained alert and clinically does not appear terrible. Vets are confident that she will pull through with continued hospitalization. She is expected to be in hospital for many days yet, which as you all know is expensive. We are already $6k in & the bills are still coming. But she deserves to live. A human got her in this mess, and a whole bunch of humans are going to get her out of it.

URGENT DONATIONS NEEDED
A rescue friend reached out today about 2 pups brought into a shelter, parvo positive and on a very short deadline because like most shelters they cannot keep them quarantined in a way that doesnt put all dogs in their care at risk. They were not near, we had no personal connects in the area, and were scrambling. Somehow with a hell of a lot of help we pulled it off, with a literal buzzer be**er as the dogs were being walked down to be euthanized when we got ahold of them & an amazing shelter director stayed over an hour late for us to get an awesome volunteer there to pull them for us.
Both pups were found in really rough shape, presumably dumped. The black and tan female has tested positive for parvo (videos in comments) she is severly anemic and is getting immediate treatment & plasma. While her odds arent great right now, this little girl deserves better than the hand she has been dealt, and is worth fighting for. We will fight as long as she will.
The red female we’re calling Roxy and she is currently looking much better, but with parvo you just never know, her symptoms could worsen quickly, and she could potentially infect others, so she is being treated.

I have had a lot of confusion about what to call this dog. This happens in rescue. A dog probably had one name before the shelter, the dog gets a shelter name, and then the foster calls them something else. So far this dog has been referred to as JP, Waffles, and he responds to Waffles. I’ve been calling him Walland because it is has a similar sound to Waffles. We are accepting applications on him! 🏥🐾🚑URGENT DONATIONS NEEDED🚑🐾🩺🏥 We picked up Mr. Fritz Lickeybottom today from an east TN shelter. Unfortunately he didn’t get the warm welcome to rescue we always hope for, instead he’s currently at University of Tennessee Veterinary Hospital getting emergency care for severe scrotal bleeding post neuter. At this time we’re not sure if it’s due to VonWillebrands disorder or if something went wrong in surgery, but what we do know is emergency vets are pricey, especially with at least 1 overnight stay. They have tested him with dogs, cats, and chickens, and he seems to have the sweetest nature. He will need a specialized diet to gain weight and also a neuter when he is healthy enough. He is very sweet and happy despite his condition!
