Dogs of the Round Table Building trust through training.

15/01/2025

Our lunch break from the day job is a great time to get in a few short training sessions. Today, we worked on adding a verbal cue to Vers' "dead" trick and progressing her "get dressed" behavior to her offering to move toward the collar rather than us moving it toward her. I love watching her think, figure things out, and let me know when I've skipped ahead too quickly.

No better time than on a snow day to play with your dogs. Today, we are focusing on play skills for our and Vers is having a blast. I know what you're thinking, it's not play month. Many people get dogs as companions they can take walking, hiking, or play games of fetch with. But did you know, not all dogs come pre-wired to like toys or play games we think are fun? Our dogs decide what they like and thinks is fun so play looks different for every dog. Stay tuned for videos of each of the favorite games to play.

Tonight for our we did a mashup of fitness and waiting our turn. The main priority for Ditto was getting better at waiting his turn while Hurry focused on learning the verbal cue 'fold'. Roni just tagged along to help. Hurry was a little unsure of the equipment set up but worked through it nicely while Ditto finally managed to stay on his place while another dog was working and getting rewarded even with me walking across the room to get more treats. Best of all, all three dogs were tired after from all the thinking they had to do.

I decided to kick off our January training challenge by starting a new trick with our youngest staff member, Vers. Hold is a super cute trick for photos and what's better than a trick that provides adorable photo ops. She did great for her first session, and we can't wait to share photos of her holding some crazy things. What did you work on today?
