Join us for our 90-minute crash course on functional rear foot targeting at QuicksilverCanine. We will start with the basics and go through the progressions and exercises you can use at home to help promote body awareness, weight shift to the rear, and using their hind end effectively to brake and balance. This is a great way to improve performance in your sport of choice and teach collection while also helping prevent injury. Didn't know targeting could do all that? This is the workshop for you!
Date: 11/13/24
Time: 1:30pm

Poppy has discovered snuffle mats and asked that we share this cool enrichment tool with the world. She was unsure about this weird "food bowl" at first but once she figured out she got to use her nose to find the food in the mat she was all in! Does your dog like to snuffle? Have you ever used them in ways other than just to feed them? We use snuffle mats in a variety of ways in training to help dogs relax. Not sure how to use it to help your training? PM or email [email protected] for help. #dogsoftheroundtable #canineenrichment #positivedogtraining #positivereinforcementtraining #impulsecontrol #boykinspaniel
Meet Poppy, an exuberant young Boykin Spaniel and our newest camper. She is visiting so she can work on some basic manners, impulse control, recalls, retrieve skills, and learning how to share prized possessions with her humans. Today we worked on recalls in the woods, and she did great (just wait for it, it's worth it)! If you're stuck in a rut with training and would like help, PM or email us at [email protected]

We have found that a key component of training that often gets forgotten is management. What do we mean? We all know that the more we practice something, the better we get at it, right? This unfortunately applies to things we don't like and bad habits as well as the good. So, what can we manage?
The environment we're training in, distance from distractions, rewards we are using, and knowing when to manage a situation rather than train through it are all things we can use to set ourselves and our dogs up for aiccess. For example, Bacon loves to run the fence line and bark at the neighbors on the other side. Sometimes when he does this he gets out of the yard or ends up hurting his knee. On days when we don't have the energy to train through it but want to give him outside "free time," we hook him up to his harness and zip line, and he LOVES it. He gets to run and be "free" and we get to relax and enjoy him being a dog.
Need help learning how to manage situations when you don't have the time or energy to train? Not sure how to manage things to set your training session up to be more successful? PM or email [email protected] and we'd he happy to help ypu troubsuccess.

Bobbie is super fast and has been having trouble stopping for her 2 on 2 off agility contacts. With all that momentum, she can't stop in time without popping off the edge and then backing up to it. In just her first short session of functional rear foot targeting she learned how to shift weight back to put on the brakes and not "fall off" the edge. I am looking forward to watching her progress and seeing her ability to stick the landing improve.
If you're interested in learning more about how #functionalrearfoottargeting can help your dog, join us on March 6th at Quicksilver Canine for our 90-minute workshop. PM or email [email protected].

Training a little dog presents some unique challenges. For example, training while standing up automatically inspires them to sit so they can look waaaaaaaayyyy up at you, and it's hard to do movement exercises in a sit. Once Lil' Lolli learned she could remain standing, learning side stepping was much easier and way less frustrating for her. #tinydogtraining #canineconditioning #caninefitness #cscc #ccft #lateralmovement #sportbredmix #flyballdogs
Only 2 spots left in our Functional Rear Foot Targrting Workshop! Not sure what functional rear foot targeting can do for you? Watch this video.
This video is of a dog being introduced to a box turn for the first time ever. This dog had never seen a hit it board or been asked to do any flyball box work prior to this session but had very strong functional rear foot targeting behaviors and used his targeting skills to nail his first session of flyball hit its.
All work and no play makes training feel like work instead of fun games. Dallas is having a great time blowing off steam in between training sessions. He also loves our play breaks during sessions to keep it fun and engaging. Impulse control, brain games, and fitness are hard work and breaking it up with play is important. #impulsecontrol #shaping #braingames #caninefitness #trainingcamp #playbreaks #dogsoftheroundtable
Happy making goals Monday! For #week2 of #nationaltrainyourdogmonth our #goal for Ditto will be training same side foot targeting and getting it on cue. He's never seen this behavior before so we started with getting him to slow down his approach toward the objects and approaching sideways instead of straight on. Sitting on the ground and marking early helped eliminate him launching at the #klimbs.
