Did you know April is National Canine Fitness Month? We celebrate every year and hope you will join us! In addition to sharing our love of keeping dogs strong, active, and healthy through pictures and videos, we have created a community discussion group on Facebook for anyone that needs a virtual workout buddy or just wants to follow along for new ideas on how to keep your dog active and conditioned. If you would like to join the community, simply follow us on Facebook or instagram, share this post on your page, and tag a friend you think might be interested too. We will add people each day as we see your posts. Not sure how to do all that, PM or email us at [email protected]. Happy training!

Just another day of day training. We had some half day visitors and some for the full day. This crew worked on fitness, focus, impulse control, socialization, and pattern games. What would you want your dog to learn at day school?

Check out this adorable group we had for day training. While their older "siblings" were at Quicksilver Canine for agility workshops, they took turns working on skills specific to their goals, in a new place, around new dogs, with a new person. Everyone settled in nicely and worked hard.

Duration around distractions is our focus for the last week of so we took some of our skills on the road again. We practiced stays at the dog store in aisles with open chews and at Quicksilver Canine while other dogs were doing very exciting things. Sit stay and stanf stay werw easier than down stay, so we will work more on that. Only a few days left before we spin the wheel to see who the winner of the free lesson is! What is your focus in training this week?

Thursday we worked on passing skills in class for and it went great! When we got home, Vers clearly needed to p**p but refused to. This is something we've been battling lately. She will ask to go out, run to the potty yard and then turn around and come right back like she went but she didn't. Why am I sharing this instead of flyball class video? I thought it would be helpful to see one of our struggles with an adolescent dog. Two weeks ago this was not an issue, and now it's a battle of the wits and back to a strict house training schedule. No accidents in the house, just lots of yelling to go out to do nothing.

We revisited the treadmill today as part of our and Vers didn't skip a beat. Prior to today, she was only introduced to the treadmill during one short session where she learned how to get on, that it moves, that she can bail off at any time and how to do so safely. Tonight we worked on doing familiar cues while it moved on the slowest setting and walking at a fast pace. We are really proud of how well she did, being only her second session. She will be trotting in no time!

We made it to the halfway mark of and decided it was a good time for a participation prize. Congratulations .hicks.18 you've won 15% off your next class, seminar, or private lesson. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Our lunch break from the day job is a great time to get in a few short training sessions. Today, we worked on adding a verbal cue to Vers' "dead" trick and progressing her "get dressed" behavior to her offering to move toward the collar rather than us moving it toward her. I love watching her think, figure things out, and let me know when I've skipped ahead too quickly.
