This practice is growing in popularity and I can't understand why. Dogs' and cats' bodies weren't created to survive this way, and depriving them of this basic need could cripple their healing potential and ability to function optimally.

Over half of all US dog owners are now skeptical about vaccinating their pets, and while some experts blame it on the pandemic, it's not a new trend. Should you be concerned about vaccinating your pet? Facebook suppressed my post on the subject, so I'm repeating it here for you to read.

Sardines make a great oily fish to include in your dogs rotation. They are packed with a whole host of vitamins and minerals. They are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, which play a very crucial role in maintaining your dog's skin and coat health, reducing inflammation, supporting brain function, and promoting joint health.

Did you know.. 💭
Sardines are one of the most concentrated sources of omega-3 fatty acids ~ (DHA and EPA) available, and they have a short lifespan. This means their bodies don’t accumulate toxins such as mercury, compared to fish with a longer lifespan.

Sardines also contain:
- Vitamin D: Important for bone development and immune system support.
- Vitamin B12: Necessary for healthy nerve function and red blood cell production.
- Calcium: Well documented to help maintain strong bones and teeth.
- Phosphorus: Works together with calcium to support bone health.
- Iodine: Supports thyroid function, which helps to regulate the metabolism.

Holiday PSA: Save your money (& potentially your dog!) by skipping the all too tempting packaged "treats" such as these. All the bows, wrappings and colors are for people eye appeal. Your pet really doesn't care about the look of a present but instead is focused on you and what is about to be consumed -- so make it a healthier option such as dried turkey/duck/chicken feet, size appropriate bully sticks (made in the USA preferably), yak milk treats etc. Give something that is truly more digestible. Remember to observe your pet wherever a long lasting "chew" treat is offered. Make it a merry holiday season by avoiding any GI issues and unplanned visits to your DVM!!

I had the honor and pleasure of teaching a holistic horse health masterclass this past weekend to these wonderful women in northern MN! Thanks to Megan and Scott Gesell for opening up their beautiful farm for our event!

Our fall workshop with Dr. Barb was AWESOME!

This has fallen over my birthday weekend the last 2 years which is so perfect! I get to spend the weekend with like minded horse friends learning awesome ways to take care of ourselves + our horses using the gifts that God gave us!

Dr. Barb taught us the following:

*How to use a dowsing tool, muscle testing, and your hands to pinpoint areas of the body that need help
*How to choose your animal's food, supplements, essential oils, herbs, etc. using principles of dowsing
*How to tap into your intuition to get answers surrounding your animal's health or emotions
*The art and science of using crystals as a powerful healing tool
*Using imagery to manifest what you want for you and your animals
*Horses will be used for practicing techniques

This is why I am adamant that pet parents read food labels! Dogs were designed to be carnivores, and protein from real meat is how Nature intended them to eat.

Not all protein is equal; the protein source for your pup should be in the form of meat 🥩 not a corn 🌽 concoction!

❌ Corn should not be the first ingredient in your dog's food.

Aside from the fact that corn is NOT easily digestible, your dog needs the protein and fat found in meat. While corn does contain protein, it is a carbohydrate.

I don't usually post advertisements like this, but I am totally sold on the quality of this dog food and what it's done (and doing) for Hawken. I feed Hawken the Volhard freeze dried Natural Diet Foundation (NDF2), along with the raw meat recommended to go with it. About a year ago, Hawken started having some digestive issues which eventually developed into severe issues. He has been on this food for six months, is thriving, and loves it. No more digestive problems. Thank you to Dr. Barbara Mayhew Fox for recommending this!
I feel comfortable with this food because it's made of all natural, raw, human grade foods, it's been established for quite some time, is research based, and was developed in part by veterinarians. I know it's not for everyone because it's not as convenient as dry kibble and it's not cheap - especially for a big dog. However, if your looking for some healthy food for your dog, you might want to check this out!

This is almost too much to bear, but fi you're feeding commercial pet food, you NEED to know this.

I recently set up a consultation with a new client who has a dog with multiple issues despite its young age. There are a whopping TWENTY-SEVEN pages of medical notes for the past year's veterinary visits!! The part that disturbs me is that the dog is being treated symptomatically ONLY, and is not getting well whatsoever.

Oftentimes it takes a deep dive to get to the root cause of the issues. Many times, these main factors come into play in chronic, unresolving disease:

1. Diet and treats - inappropriate food, dietary insensitivities, and chemically-laden treats affect intestinal function in a not-so-good way

2. Overvaccination - many pet owners don't realize that vaccines can be harmful, especially if given too often or too many vaccine are given at one time. In the veterinary world, as well as in the human medical field, patients DESERVE to hear the benefits AND the risks of vaccinations - and to have informed consent chats with the veterinarian or doctor ahead of time.

3. Overuse of chemical flea, tick, and heartworm products - many veterinarians recommend year-round preventative types of products, regardless if you live in the arctic tundra in the winter (where bugs don't exist) or your pet never goes outdoors. Chemical accumulation from these products directly affects your pet's liver and other organs and can lead to chronic disease. Natural options are available, though your veterinarian will most likely poo-poo those products.

Just food for thought here. I'm on a mission to educate and inform animal moms and dads that there are natural, safe, and effective therapies and products to prevent and mitigate disease. Our precious animals deserve them!

ARE LAUNDRY CHEMICALS AFFECTING YOUR PETS’ SKIN & HEALTH?

If you wash your pet blankets and beds using popular fabric softeners and dryer sheets, that “just washed” fresh smell comes from chemicals called Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that can negatively impact your pets’ health (coughing, rashy, itchy pets, anyone?).

Dr. Anne Steinmann’s UW-Seattle research team found more than 25 VOCs emitted from dryer vents using these products, including well-known respiratory irritants like Acetone, Formaldehyde, Acetaldehyde, but also Pentane (which causes skin rashes and upset stomach), Ethyl Acetate (on the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list; causes anemia, changes in white blood cells and can damage the liver and kidneys), Benzyl Acetate (can be absorbed through the skin and is linked to pancreas problems) and Alpha-terpineol (causes headaches and nervous system disorders).

Our pets can do without having to breathe in these chemical residues or having to lay on them, so here’s our Forever Dog Tip of the day: replace chemical-laden fabric softeners with a non-toxic DIY option!

Recipe: Mix 6 cups white vinegar with 1 cup baking soda, let it fizz. When the fizz stops, pour mixture into a large glass container with a lid. Use 1 cup per load of laundry.

We highlight all of the of home chemical risks that can negatively impact your dog’s health in the The Forever Dog book, available now for pre-order by clicking here: https://foreverdog.com/about/ -window

What's REALLY in your pet's food?

That's the #1 question every pet parent should be asking! But you'd be surprised to know that a good number of dog mommas and dads have no idea what's inside that bag of food.

Did you know that most grains added to pet food are genetically-modified, tainted with pesticides / herbicides, and are added primarily as a "glue" to hold the kibble of food together? Did you know that grains are also added to provide more "bulk" to the food? (think cheap fillers)

Did you know that high heat and high pressure used to form a kibble of food (and to destroy bacteria, fungi, and other pathogens) actually change the molecular structure of the food so that the body oftentimes doesn't recognize it as a viable component? Are you aware that cancer-causing agents are sometimes an end-product of the heat processing part of food manufacturing?

Furthermore, did you know that the pet food, once it's processed into kibble, has to have a synthetic vitamin mix sprayed on it, to make it "pass" the AAFCO recommendations for a nutritionally-complete food? Do you know how difficult it is for an animal or human body to utilize synthetic vitamins / nutrients?

If you've ever wondered why veterinary clinics are overrun with allergy, digestive, and cancer patients, think processed food as a very real culprit. Of course, chemicals, vaccines, and other environmental factors all play a part but food is a major contributor to ill health.

A chemical used in Milk-Bones, Ol’Roy, Kibbles’n Bits, Hill’s Pet Food and other pet foods should no longer be considered safe for consumption due to concerns about its ability to damage DNA according to a new animal-model study.

According to the : “A scientific panel created by the European Food Safety Authority found that titanium dioxide “can no longer be considered as safe when used as a food additive.” The panel, citing concerns about titanium dioxide’s genotoxicity, or its ability to damage DNA, based its conclusion on a review of hundreds of scientific studies. EWG called on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to quickly consider whether to ban titanium dioxide from use in food."

A chemical that may damage our pet's DNA should not be fed to pets.

Titanium dioxide is on Dirty Dozen list of additives you need to avoid in your pet food. www.ForeverDog.com
