Adoption Success Story: Celebrating Beau's First Birthday! 🎉

Look who just turned 1! Eight months ago, we welcomed a tiny 4-month-old German Shepherd puppy into our home. Formerly known as R***r, we were super nervous about adding a puppy to our household, which already included two rescues—a 9-year-old GSD and a male cat. But thanks to the amazing team at Washington German Shepherd Rescue, we were paired with the perfect match. You hit the nail on the head with 💯 accuracy!

A huge thank you to the team, the volunteers, and Beau’s former foster mom, with whom we still keep in touch. Beau has been such a blessing and joy, especially after we lost our older GSD. He has helped us through this difficult time with his loving and playful spirit.

Beau is super social and loves his outings to Lowe’s and our hikes. He passed puppy training with flying colors and enjoys his weekly puppy enrichment social group. He’s best friends with our cat and loves to travel with us!

We are so thankful for Beau and can’t imagine life without him. Thank you so much, Washington German Shepherd Rescue, for everything you do! Beau has truly enriched our lives, and we look forward to many more adventures with him.

Success Story: Primrose's Journey to Her Forever Home

In February 2023, I was doing my usual scroll through the Washington German Shepherd Rescue’s page, admiring all the adorable dogs. For the past 10 years, I had often wondered what it would be like to have a GSD of my own, having grown up with five of them in my family. I was curious how people fell in love with a dog just by looking at their pictures.

Then, one day, it happened. I saw her. I texted my husband in a panic, knowing how quickly a cute puppy like that could be adopted. He said, “take her home,” a phrase we often joked about. But this time, I was serious. I told him to prepare for a new puppy soon. I gathered my glowing references and submitted my application, aware that there was tough competition for her.

Her name is Primrose (formerly Penny), and when she was dropped off at our home, I was struck by how small and cute she was. Her big personality weighed more than she did! She’s just like me—independent and sassy. She immediately bonded with our cat, Henry, and tried her best to give space to her elderly brothers, Teddy and Blue. On her first day, she met her first best friend, and from there, she welcomed every new friend with open paws. At daycare, she greets all the newcomers, whether they’re big, tiny, shy, or wild.

Primrose loves pool time, daycare, and her famous yeah-yeah toys, often stuffing four of them in her mouth at once! She’s always up for playing, being silly, and making everyone laugh. She’s a shining example of a wonderful GSD. We even welcomed another WGSR puppy foster into our home, and Prim helped raise her to be a good girl too! She is our pride and joy, and her beauty goes far beyond her stunning appearance. We couldn't be happier that she joined our family.

We are grateful to WGSR for all the support and resources they provide to ensure their dogs have successful adoptions. We love Primrose deeply and are forever thankful for the joy she has brought into our lives.

A New Dawn: Welcoming Aurora into Our Family

Our family faced a devastating loss in June 2023 when we said goodbye to our beloved German Shepherd, OYS, who had been with us for over 11 years. Throughout our history, we've always had at least one large breed dog on our property. We believed in the tradition of having the old guard guide the next generation, teaching them the ways of the property. However, the pandemic disrupted this methodology, leaving us a bit behind.

Stevie Nicks, a little pup, joined our family and quickly adopted OYS as her surrogate mom. Sadly, Stevie only had about eight months of guidance and protection from OYS before we lost our matriarch. Our family was deep in grief, and both the property and Stevie missed the presence of our "big girl." We knew we needed to fill that void, but our hearts were hesitant.

In the midst of this sorrow, I kept an eye on the Washington GSD Rescue, hoping the right dog would come along. Then, one day, Ms. Aurora appeared in my feed. Her stunning face, brimming with mischief and shenanigans, made her the perfect partner in crime for our little Stevie Nicks.

We were approved for a meet and greet at our house and crossed our fingers that they would get along. To our delight, Stevie and Aurora hit it off almost immediately, playing and hanging out as if they had always been friends.

Our last concern was whether our son, who had been particularly close to OYS, would bond with Aurora when he returned home from college. The moment he walked through the door, Aurora's reaction reassured us—she didn't even bark but immediately recognized him as part of her new pack. Our son has started training with her, understanding the importance and joy of participating in this process.

Over the past few months, we've navigated some bumps in the road, as any family does. Sibling rivalry and other dramas have arisen, but these challenges have only strengthened our bonds. Aurora has proven to be intelligent, comical, loving, and most importantly, a heart-healer for our entire family.

Her name, Aurora, fittingly symbolizes the dawn of a new chapter in our lives. She has brought light and healing to our hearts. Thank you, WA GSD Rescue, for bringing this wonderful addition to our family.

Mom and puppies

This is the condition of over 25+ dogs and puppies.. trying to survive outdoors in freezing temperatures. A volunteer was on his way to help them and others. Updates to follow.

Abandoned dogs

We have an urgent situation and we are currently assisting with abandoned dogs. They have no shelter and no food. A volunteer is on site feeding them. We are hoping to gather food and supplies and look for fosters to assist. If you are able to donate food via Amazon or chewy or have any open bags of food, please please message us and we can provide you with the address! Leyla, Felix, Oliver, Sophie and Oscar are available for adoption! Daisy, Jetty, Benji and Ruby had been pre-adopted! These adorable puppies are German Shepherd/Dutch Shepherd/ Malinois/ Great Pyrenees puppies. Both mom and dad are spectacular dogs and available for adoption as well. The puppies love to cuddle and kiss their foster mom. They have been raised with the most loving and caring foster mom and dad since they arrived into rescue at 12 hours old.

Hi everyone ! One of the 3 boys we saved is arriving into the rescue! We are desperately needing a foster for him. He is 3 years of age and 50 lbs. He is dog and people friendly ! Please email or message us to help! [email protected]

We were contacted by another GSD Rescue and a local Shelter to assist with this little girl who wasn’t doing well in the shelter. We were told she was blind and 9 weeks of age and was found by a Good Samaritan. We felt there may be a neurological component and she just had her appointment at Veterinary Speciality Center in Lynnwood with a neurologist. She is with an amazing foster and we are grateful for all of the care they are providing to her! It is determined she has Cortical blindness, Cerebellar Disease, and Moderate proprioceptive ataxia with a mild cerebellar component affecting all four limbs Every day we are grateful for your support by fostering, and by donating and providing supplies. 2 PM update!!! WE DID IT!! Please watch the freedom video just taken.. they are on their way out of the shelter to a safe temp foster in New Mexico prior to coming to us !! Thank you everyone!!!!! We had only minutes to spare. They are safe! We committed and have one foster lined up! We have until 1 PM today to confirm we can take these two dogs. Both are very people and dog friendly. The 2 puppies on the euthanasia list are safe.. However, they are still very shut down and terrified. Another organization is going to be flying these 2 puppies to us next week arriving at Boeing field. We have one foster home committed to helping but are desperate for another foster who can help them learn that people are kind. Please message us or email us at [email protected] if you can help. They will be ready to go to a foster in June 13th. They will be fully vetted.
