Cookie went on an adventure yesterday to help with an in-home session for one of our board and train graduates (2 such sessions are included in the program). She was such a helper and both dogs were quite successful! We stopped at where Cookie was part of BARC Day, exactly 2 years ago this month! She was just a pup then! She instantly remembered being here, and was all wiggles and so excited to greet everyone. She particularly enjoyed the affection from a child. Cookie longingly seeks the comforts of home, a concept that she has known for these past two years (serious health concerns in her Owner’s life resulted in her return back to BARC). She rides well in the car, loves being out in social settings, seeks the connection of children, and is overall a wonderful dog. Cookie is available for adoption, reach out to schedule a meet!❤️🐾 , ,

A true friend of BARC❤️🐾

Today I am thanking all of our loyal customers for their patronage. If you know me you know I research every product that comes into my shop, I only carry products that work and will be the first to say if you are looking at a product you don’t need. I do not carry items I would not give to my own pets. I stay current on recalls and ingredient changes and talk to company owners when I have concerns. I get phones calls asking for advice and send people to the vet when it’s nothing we can assist with. I research toys and will not stock items that may hurt your pet (rope toys, rawhide etc). Could we make more money selling some of these items? Yes. I will not do it. When you shop with us you know I have done everything I can to be sure it’s a good and safe product. This store is my life’s purpose and is on my mind 24/7. My focus is to help animals live their best lives and assist their guardians in providing that. My staff is just as committed as I am. They are the ABSOLUTE BEST PEOPLE and I am so grateful to have them and to be able to employ them.

We donate time, supplies and money to all of our local pet rescues. We support organizations who help children. I stand up for those who have no voice.

The pet industry is growing and everyone is trying to get a piece of the pie. When I bought the shop almost 15 years ago I was competing with Petland and Walmart. Now we are competing with them as well as PetSmart, TSC, Menards, Lowe’s, Marshall’s, Chewy, Amazon and others all right here on East State St.

SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT. You are the reason we are thriving. Thank you for buying your pet products here, as we do not have the ability to stock groceries or tools to help our bottom line.

If you have ever had a good experience here please share it on your timeline. Please write a Google review and please tell your friends to come to us. We even have frequent buyer programs and our prices are competitive.

THANK YOU FOR LETTING US HELP PETS.

It's Throwback Thursday featuring Bruno!

"Bruno joined our family on June 7th, 2022. His strengths include his curious and playful nature, making us laugh every day, knowing his commands and listening to them most of the time, hogging all of the space on our beds and couches, and being a power chewer but only choosing to chew on his toys like a good boy. Bruno’s interests include playing with our family’s other boxer/pit mix named Athena, looking out the windows, laying by the fire in the winter, and licking EVERYTHING. Bruno has many quirks, including his “butt scratch boogie” dance that he does when he gets good scratches, being the king of giving us side eye, sitting on the couch like a human, putting himself to bed when he gets tired, being talkative/sassy whenever and wherever he wants to, lacking all spatial awareness, and having the most expressive ears we have ever seen. Bruno is recently learning to enjoy his newly fenced in yard. He is loved greatly by many friends and family members, and has been a lovely addition to our family."

Maisy is our pup of the week! Here's her update:

Characteristics:
• Love cheese, walks in the woods, hunting for chipmunks, warm blankets, and car rides
• Has visited 8 states and the Atlantic Ocean
• Introverted but a bit nosy
• Fiercely loving and loyal
• Curious about bugs

I began looking for the perfect pup to adopt from a shelter or rescue in mid-May 2024. I had a rather long list of what I was hoping to find, and was willing to wait. As it would turn out, however, Maisy (formerly Shelly) was found alone alongside a state route near Glouster within days of my canine quest beginning. I was the first and only appointment she had for a prospective adopter while she was at the shelter, as I decided she was the perfect match for me. She was Shelly no more and Maisy forever. Over the past 7 months, Maisy has blossomed and come out of her shell and into her own sweet and spunky terrier self. She can be a couch potato or a hiking buddy, but is always hoping you'll share your cheese or apples with her. She's a smart yet opinionated cookie and has come so far. Not knowing her first few years of life has made it challenging at times to know how to best lead her, especially when it comes to some dog reactivity. She has begun making more canine friends over the past few months though and am grateful for Melanie at YAP for guidance as well. Maisy loves nothing more than being in the presence of her humans — although she loves it most when it involves a car ride. She's such a great traveler that she accompanied me on a summer road trip to Maine — she's now been to 8 states and the Atlantic Ocean and we're already dreaming up plans for 2025. I'm so lucky our paths intersected — it feels meant to be and I am so in love with my best little gal.

Oh, and anyone wanting to follow her adventures on Instagram can find her at 🙂

Please Read for Cookie: Today we post a Throwback BARC Day to feature Cookie! Cookie and CJ (now Blix) came into the shelter (Dec. 2022) as puppies and to avoid the stressors of this environment and to feature them for adoption BARC pulled them to Windy Ridge Kennel, their alternative site and worked with them until both were quickly adopted.

Unfortunately Cookie's owner is ill and his health continues to decline and he can no longer care for her. He reached out to BARC stating it was an emergency, Cookie needed a new home. This decision, by no means, was made easily. The Owner and Cookie showed great sadness and even physical grief and it was clear this painful decision was made out of love. Cookie is now again with us at Windy Ridge Kennel.

Successful AND Sustainable adoption is essential to the mission of BARC so once a BARC dog, always a BARC dog. Now we ask you to please share on behalf of Cookie. She needs a home (foster or adopt) as she has known the comforts and safety of home for nearly two years and is stressed by the kennel environment. She continues to be the spunky, sweet spirit you see in this video. However, for now, a bit more sad and confused. Let's make Connections for Cookie!❤️🐾🍪 , , ,
