Please keep an eye out for your dogs. It is snake season. Baby copperheads are born July through August and timber rattlesnakes are born August through October. We have already had several snakes bites come into the clinic in the past several weeks... if you suspect that your dog has been bitten, please get them to your veterinary clinic as soon as possible. Do not wait to see if they show signs

I am selling my metal kennel that I used for training. It is a 5x5x5. It is in good condition but does have some scratches and paint loss from the dogs. It has never been outside and has always stayed in an air condition building.
It does come with a sunscreen top

I turned off my messenger because several people were contacting me about training. There were a one or two that were not happy that I am no longer training. They said I shouldn't have a page that said K-9 academy because it gave false information about my page. I didn't engage with them, but I decided to turn off messenger. This page is now set up to offer training tips as well as canine wellness. I left the videos up because I didn't have the heart to take them down. All the dogs I trained are still important to me. If people want to see how I trained, they can watch the videos. I want to educate folks on canine wellness because it is just as important as training & I've added in some humor to make folks smile 😃

This is a good article talking about heat stroke. The weather is warming up and we have to take care of ourselves as well as our pets. Make sure to check the asphalt & sidewalks if you want to walk your dog. If it is warm/hot to your touch, it will be worse on their pads. Also take into account it gets very humid here and that can also lead to heat stroke

The elevation of body temperature above normal. It is sometimes indicative of a fever, but it can also be associated with severe conditions such as heat stroke or heat prostration.

I have seen several posts about dog training & what to look for in a dog trainer. As a retired dog trainer with over 25+ years of experience, here is what I recommended:

* Years of experience that trainer has
* Range of experience (what types of training have they done)
* Type of training they (trainer) went through: civilian, military etc
* Meet with the trainer
* Talk about each other's expectations
* Make sure they are insured
* Be prepared to follow through with maintenance training and make sure the trainer explains that to you
* Talk about what methods they use when it comes to training. There needs to be a balance
* Ask to see the location if it is a board and train
* Ask what their protocol is incase of a medical emergency
* If it is one on one training, be prepared to do the work for your next training session
* An experienced trainer is not cheap -
You have to remember this is their job. You are paying for their experience, knowledge, professionalism and time

Easter is right around the corner and dogs like candy as much as people. Here is some excellent information on chocolate toxicity in dogs - please do not give them chocolate. The Easter bunny can bring them something healthy like carrots 🥕

Chocolate may be America's favorite flavor. We like chocolate candy, ice cream, chocolate drinks, chocolate cakes, just about anything with that flavor. We may want to share our favorite treat with an eager pet but it is best to think twice and reach for the dog biscuits instead.

The girls graduated. They both did so good. There was definitely more stubbornness with this crew, but we worked through it and were successful. I know their families were ready to bring them home. I'm super proud of these little ladies...💥
