8mo old, this dude ain’t gonna be able to ride shotgun for much longer!

He gets just as excited as I do when we see the water on the way back home. It means we’re done peopling for the day!!

Also, can we talk about how handsome he looks in his new Double G Dog harness?!?

These two beauties just had double Cherry eye surgery and they did great❤️

As Cherry eye is most likely due to genetic inheritance, and it is not recommended to breed a dog with a history of Cherry eye, I will begin accepting pet home applications on both girls after they have fully rehabbed.

These past two years have been really hard. Losing Boo was the final straw for me and I’m moving forward with much stronger conviction, way tighter health testing protocols, and a ton more knowledge.

My primary goal has been and will continue to be to better this precious breed. And, my criteria for and definition of “breed quality” has changed drastically.

I am a small operation, and a one woman show, and I can only adequately care for so many pups. All of our pups live in and are a daily part of our home and lives. I wish I could house all the bulldogs!! But, I need to do what’s right for each dog and what’s right for my ultimate goal, which is to bring some health and quality to a breed that is severely lacking in both areas here in the US.

My love of this breed began with my first two babies many years ago. Both went through years of health issues which ultimately shortened both of their lives and probably covered a few vet salaries during those years. It doesn’t have to and shouldn’t be that way.
That’s my why.
That will always be my why.
And when we know better, we do better.
We can do better.

Super thankful to have found a new surgical partner, Dr. Katie Kimberlin of Crossroads Veterinary Clinic. Thank you for taking such good care of my girls ❤️

As always, thank you Dr Gibbs of Emory Veterinary Clinic for continually having my packs best interest at heart❤️🐶

For anyone interested in adding an older pup to your home, I’ll be posting about these girls next month. Both turn 1 in March 2024. Both are super sweet and well behaved. Both will be to pet homes only and on a strictly enforced spay contract with limited registration.

Merry Christmas from the dog ranch🎄❤️🐶

In anticipation of our new girls arriving late next month, we have decided to open a contest for the best names!

Throw out your favorite girl bulldog names and if we choose a submitted name, the first person who commented the name will be gifted a Double G Dog swag bag!

We are wanting something unique. These girls are traveling from far, far away and we’re wracking our brains trying to come up with names that represent them well.

We are so excited for the arrival of these gorgeous girls and have big plans for them!

Today it’s shaping up to be one heck of a great day.

After a long search, down more pedigree rabbit holes than I can count, calls to vet offices, talks with experts on health and nutrition, extensive talks about health, health testing, proper screening of structure and temperament, different ways to house and how that affects outcomes, training, early neuro stimulation, sanitation, nutrition and the list could go on… we’re getting ready to welcome home some mind blowing quality pups from HEALTH TESTED parents/lines from a world away.

Did you know there are places where full health testing and transparency are the norm? For bulldogs. Yes, bulldogs.

We wonder why and complain about the fact that low quality and poor health in the bulldog breed here in the US is so prevalent, yet there are so few regularly practicing in ways that would consistently lead to better health and quality outcomes.

We’ve talked to at least 15 TOP NAME kennels/programs/breeders here in the US over the past months who balk at questions regarding health testing. “It’s a bulldog, we don’t do that type of testing on bulldogs,” “We DNA our sires, don’t need to DNA the dams” or vice verse “bulldogs are unhealthy, that’s just the way it is”. And questions about anything that looks remotely like OFA type testing- yeah, we got laughed at many times. Many ride on the fact that they offer a limited health guarantee for puppies as if that should suffice or replace the need for health testing sires/dams.

Maybe we’re naive, maybe we’re too emotionally invested in the bulldog breeds, or maybe we’re willing to invest more heavily upfront than some. Don’t know, but we sure don’t understand why more people don’t take those “extra” steps.
In our opinion, and the opinion of most in the vet sciences communities, these are necessary steps - not extra steps. Especially for the bulldog/brachycephalic breeds.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if you have some amazing champion show name or bigtime hashtag in your pedigree if your productions aren’t as healthy as is humanly possible to create. And, we have ways to ensure better outcomes/healthier productions. So, why are we taking shortcuts?

This doesn’t mean we have to cull from our programs anything that doesn’t 💯 health test clean, but if we know all the variables, via verifiable testing and transparency, we can make better breeding decisions. All of us. And better breeding decisions benefits everyone. Most importantly, it benefits our main priority- the dogs.

On the subject of health testing, and in line with our 100% commitment to bettering the breed as well as my personal promise to the legacy:
Bulldogs can and absolutely should be health tested. To include, but also way beyond DNA. Feels kinda weird to be the ones to step up in a world we’re relatively new to, not having ran a line for 50 years. But, get ready to watch that happen as we’ll be detailing the entire journey on the Double G Dog Ranch page and our new page that will drop in 2024.

To our breeder friends: this is in no way directed at anyone in particular. We know and have worked with so many of you over the years who have completely pure intentions and love your dogs like family. We see you. We love you. We’re with you. We’ll elevate together.

There is a better way. And we’re going to lay that out step by step. And we aren’t using our mouths, we’re gonna show you.

We have two choices when starting anything in life:
Beg for a seat at the table or go straight to the forest and starting building your own.

The fall was painful, but man that comeback.

A loss had without a lesson learned is the worst loss of all.
