Miss Franny and I had out very first solo walk together without her owners present! After months of visits with her owners to help get her more acclimated to me, we finally decided that she was ready to spend some time with me without Mom and Dad. Franny did so well!! We were faced with many triggers on our walk and she didn’t react to any of them. Lots of training techniques were used along with plenty of yummy treats to help her stay calm. A worker walked pretty close at one point and Franny’s face was buried in the grass, snuffling for treats and paying him no mind. I’m so happy with how everything went and I’m looking forward to eventually having out first housesit together 🥰 Please tell Franny what a good girl she is!

Jessie is getting more and more comfortable with me. At first she was so scared she didn’t want to go on a walk with me. Now she’s willingly following me out the door. She’s still a little wary of me but we are making progress 😊

I felt like a real dog mom pushing Uncle Geno around in his little stroller 😭 Only the finest treatment for this little king. He’s blind and has knee problems so sometimes instead of a walk he gets a fun stroller ride so he can enjoy some enrichment.

I just want to take a minute to thank all of my amazing clients for continuously trusting me to care of their wonderful pets. Over the holidays I experienced so much love and appreciation from my clients. I wasn’t expecting that and it meant so much to me. Knowing that what I do really makes a difference warms my heart and encourages me to continue to work my hardest to provide the best care possible for the pets in my care 💕 I appreciate you all. Reactive and fearful dogs make up at least 80% of my clientele. I could always relate to them because I have anxiety myself. I want to help them succeed. Just like people, they still deserve to be loved and cared for, no matter the challenges they struggle with. Other reasons I enjoy working with reactive dogs:

Trust: There’s no other feeling like earning the trust of a reactive or fearful dog. The fact that they trust you enough to be in their space, care for them, and keep them safe makes me feel so happy.

Patience: Sometimes you may need to sit and wait for them to approach. It can take days for some, and weeks for others. When they’re reacting to their triggers, you need to keep a level head and patiently wait for them to respond to you and/or settle down.

Working with Guardians: These pet parents are so invested in helping their pets thrive. Many of them also work with trainers or behaviorists. They often set up multiple meetings to help them get comfortable with me. Because of this, I get to learn a lot more about the clients themselves. I get to have more conversations with them and build wonderful relationships with them.

Managing Situations: I learned how to best avoid triggers while on walks. I’ve learned how to safely take a fearful dog out to potty when they’re afraid of me but really need to relieve themselves.

Confidence: I get anxious when talking to strangers, but I’ve needed to tell other people that the dogs in my care don’t like people in order to keep everyone safe. I’ve built confidence in how I walk dogs. I have to be confident around the dog’s triggers in order to help them when they are overstimulated. If I freak out, then the dog can sense that.

Worry-free Vacation: Clients have told me how much peace of mind they have knowing their dogs are comfortable with me. Some of them get to go on vacation after not being able to for years. I feel so happy to help them in that way.

Safe Space: Dogs deserve to feel safe when their guardians are away. I'm honored to be able to provide that feeling of safety.

Hey, everyone! My name is Candace aka “your pet’s favorite auntie.” 💁🏽‍♀️ I’m the owner and operator of Pet Care by Candace!

I have been taking care of animals professionally since May 2018. I began pet sitting part-time while I was in college studying animation and game design. I wasn’t able to have any pets of my own so I figured getting to watch other people’s pets would be the next best thing!

Once my senior year rolled around my desire to enter into into the animation industry faded away and my love for taking care of animals took over. After graduation I decided to pursue a full-time career in pet care! It was one of the best decisions of my whole life.

I am CPR and First Aid Certified and I am privately insured. No animal is too big or too small for me! I’ve cared for 150lb English Mastiffs all the way to 100 gram sugar gliders. I have experience with reactive dogs, ranging from reactivity to people and other dogs to cars and trucks. I also have experience with dogs exhibiting fear-based aggression, separation anxiety, and generalized anxiety. I have cared for pets with various medical conditions such as dementia, blindness, deafness, mobility issues, and urinary incontinence, as well as pets requiring oral medication administration and bladder expression.

Taking care of and spending time with animals for a living brings me so much joy. I can’t express how thankful and blessed I feel to be able to provide care for all of my client’s amazing animals. 😊 Booping snoots, kissing furry foreheads, scratching booties, and rubbing bellies; have you ever heard of a better work itinerary than that?? 🥰🤣😂
