Sharing this in case you need it. Our 3 personal dogs got skunked last week and it was a lot to deal with but at least I knew what to do.
See the DIY de-skunk solution recipe below. Also, I used Dawn dish soap. And a quart is about 2 big bottles of peroxide. This should be enough for up to 2 small to medium dogs. But if you have big fluffy dogs like us, you’ll have to double this recipe. Also, you need to let the solution sit for at least 10 mins then I recommend that you wash all over with dish soap and then rinse and lather with conditioner and let it sit for another 5 mins before rinsing 🛁🧽
*It’s important NOT to wet the dog with water until after the de-skunk solution has been applied. Water will seal the oils from the skunk spray into the fur*

Tucker got his usual short haircut today, following his regular 8-week grooming schedule. For most doodles, this is the longest recommended fur length for this schedule, as it helps keep maintenance at home more manageable. Doodles kept with longer coats should be professionally groomed every 4–6 weeks, depending on their fur length and thickness, in addition to being brushed and combed a few times per week to prevent matting. Some doodles with very thick, poodle-like coats may even require a thorough bath and brush-out every 3 weeks. Remember, if you cannot run a comb through your doodle or poodle’s fur, a short/tight haircut will be necessary to prevent discomfort.

Just a reminder that ear plucking in dogs with excess hair in their ears such as poodles and poodle mixes (doodles) is important to prevent ear infections. As you can see in these photos, the wax attaches to the hair and forms plugs such as the one we removed from one of our clients today. If your dog’s ears are red, smelly, have brown wax, etc, they could be developing an ear infection. Prevention is always less painful for your dog and more affordable than vet treatment for an infection.
