Cookie and Kae practice ’leave it’ with pup mom! This command teaches your pup to disengage from a tempting item and look to you instead, a skill that requires patience and consistency to master, but is worth it for preventing emergencies. Let us know if you and your pup need help with this!

Rainy days mean indoor activities! Rainy days can dampen outdoor playtime for your pup, often leading to boredom, excess energy, or even anxiety. You might hide healthy treats around the home, encouraging your pup to use their nose to hunt them out. Indoor agility exercises, such as weaving through chairs or gentle tug-of-war, can also burn off excess energy and foster confidence. Mentally stimulating your pup through training sessions is another great rainy day pet activity.

Jack and Kuma are resting up before the New Year’s festivities! Fireworks, music, and party sounds can overwhelm pets, especially for those with anxiety issues or sensitive hearing. Pets are more likely to go missing on New Year’s Eve because sudden loud noises can cause them to panic and escape. Consider creating a quiet, cozy space with their favorite bed or blanket and adding a noise machine or soft music to muffle outside sounds. With a bit of preparation, you can ensure that your New Year’s Eve is safe and stress-free for your pets!

Saint, Lucky, Blue and Oakley practice ’stay’ with pup mom. If your pup can hold a position like ‘sit’ or ‘down’ until you release them, it makes so many things easier such as grooming, answering the door, or carrying in a load of groceries. Let us know if you’re interested in this for your pup!

Zippy is here to help wish everyone a Merry Christmas! He also has some holiday pet safety tips to keep in mind as we celebrate the next few days.
- If you have a real Christmas tree, keep the water in the stand covered so your animals can’t drink it.
- Holiday plants such as poinsettias and mistletoe can be dangerous if your pets chew on them.
- Put burning candles in places that are inaccessible to your pets and don’t let candles burn unattended.
- Keep all gifts that contain human food off the floor so that pets are not tempted by the smells.

Tucker and Zippy are here with a few cold weather tips. As the temperatures start to fall, it’s time to put some thought into preparing to give our pets a little extra care to stay warm and safe during winter and the holidays.
- Short-haired pets, especially small breeds, often benefit from a cozy jacket or sweater when venturing outdoors.
- Antifreeze is highly toxic to animals but often appealing due to its sweet taste. Keep it well out of reach, and promptly clean up any spills around vehicles.
- Space heaters, fireplaces, and other heating devices can be dangerous for pets. Supervise their use to avoid burns or other accidents and consider a pet-proof barrier if your pet is prone to getting too close.
