For adoption through our rescue - AVH to the Rescue. One year old Cavanese (half Cavalier/half Havanese), related to the other ones I've posted about if you've seen them! She is a sister, her name is Amelia and she needs a new home! Ideally someone home a lot of the time. She will attach herself to one person and likely ignore all others in the household. She is healthy and 1 years old. No kids under 12. She is fully vetted and spayed! Contact me here or [email protected]
She is leash trained but still working on house training as she came from a situation she received no training or socialization. She does does have an adoption fee. She is such a sweet girl and loves sitting in your lap and snuggling! Let me know if you are the home for her. Located in Knoxville TN. Local homes preferred.

Midge and Marigold are 2 new rescues that are looking for a foster home (either together or separately). They are super sweet girls! Midge is more outgoing and playful and Marigold is more reserved. Looking for a local foster home (Knox Co or surrounding area). They are not housebroken as they have lived most of their lives outside and in kennels but are quick to learn. They are Havanese/Cavalier mixes and weigh 15 and 18 lbs. They were not in great shape when they came into rescue but now are doing so much better, cleaned up and healthy! Both are 1 year old. They had to be shaved down in places but their hair will grow back nicely. Please contact me here or at [email protected] of able to help!

We are excited to announce that a new veterinarian will be joining the Admiral Vet family! Please welcome Dr Erin Warren!
She will be seeing dogs and cats and practices a bit in acupuncture and integative medicine. Here's her bio to learn more:

Dr. Warren was born and raised just outside Raleigh, North Carolina. She attended NC State University (go Wolfpack!) where she graduated in 2001 with a degree in Biochemistry.  She went on to obtain her Master’s degree in Biochemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2005.  After completing her graduate work, she decided to pursue a career that reflected her life-long love of animals and worked as a veterinary assistant before returning to NC State University where she obtained her DVM degree in 2011.  Afterwards, she completed a small animal rotating internship at the University of Tennessee Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Knoxville.

Dr. Warren worked for a short time in emergency medicine before finding her true calling in general practice, a setting where she is able to foster long-term relationships with her clients and patients.  In an effort to expand treatment options for her patients, Dr. Warren completed her acupuncture certification (CVA) at Chi University in 2021.  She is thrilled to share her expertise in integrative veterinary care, combining the benefits of traditional Western medicine with complementary modalities such as acupuncture, thereby providing comprehensive and personalized care for her patients.  She is especially passionate about preventative and geriatric pet care and loves treating dogs and cats alike.

Outside of work, Dr. Warren enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband, Paul, and their son, Mason. They share their home with a gaggle of rescue critters, including their dog, Prim, and two cats, Holly and Juneau. In her leisure time, Dr. Warren enjoys gardening, reading, hiking, and travel.

Some facts about cancer in pets (and people):

1 in 3 dogs will get cancer. 50% of dogs over age 10 will get cancer. 40% of people will get cancer (this is similar to dogs!) 1 in 5 cats will get cancer.

I get asked all the time about why someone's dog or cat got cancer. While certainly there are environmental factors, the overwhelming reason is genetics.

Especially purebred dogs have a predisposed genetic link to cancer. Humans also can have a genetic link (like with certain breast cancers). Intact female animals (and some males) over the age of 7 are at increased risk for reproductive cancers. Older humans are also at increased risk of reproductive cancers (prostate, breast, ovarian)

Some cancers are caused by viruses. Humans can get cancer from a virus (HPV, Hepatitis, and more). Cats get cancer from the feline leukemia virus.

Lung cancer in cats is linked to owners that smoke (cats lick the smoke off their fur).
Every cat I've seen with oral or lung cancer has an owner that smokes.

White animals are more predisposed to skin cancers due to ultraviolet light (just like people with paler skin are more predisposed to skin cancers by 20 times more than dark skinned people).

Obese animals have a higher rate of cancer than fit pets (mammary and bladder cancer). This is also true in people. Obesity is a chronic state of inflammation that triggers cancer.

While some people want to blame food or vaccines or routine medications for their pets cancers these are rare causes for your pet to get cancer. The best things to do to help your pet in the fight against cancer is keep them fit and active and at an ideal body weight, keep them on a healthy diet (no Old Roy), know your breeds predisposition to developing cancer, get an exam and checkup every 6 months and especially check out all lumps and bumps. Get routine labwork annually and especially at over age 10. Don't smoke. Limit lounging in the sun especially lighter colored pets. Spay and neuter (at the age your vet recommends) as this decreases or eliminates reproductive cancers.

While we can't always prevent cancers in our pets, we can do our due diligence in helping make sure we aren't adding to the risk factors! And we can hopefully catch them sooner so we can help in getting a cure!

Hi! I’m Franklin. I’m a sometimes-shy sweet boy who just might capture your heart! The vet says I’m about three and a half years old, but my Foster Mom says I act more like a puppy! I think she says that because I am so eager to play and run around in the back yard chasing birds and butterflie...

We are leaping for joy that spring is just around the corner (we hope). Remember that even though it's winter we still are seeing a lot of pets with fleas and ticks, because their owners stopped the prevention. East Tennessee is notorious for winters that go back and forth from freezing cold to sunny and 65. Talk to one of our team members about which preventive products are best for your pet!
