A little more than six years ago, after having been without a dog for six years since our Springers died, my wife and I came to the decision it was time again. We of course had very different ideas on what breed to go with. She said Chocolate Lab and I said Vizsla. Of course, she won in the end but as I started my search, I discovered Fox Red Labradors. After spending a fair amount of time checking out Breeders, I found Kim Pfister and Rainmaker Labs in Stone Lake, WI. Luckily, she had a litter of Fox Red's almost ready to go home and one male pup available.
Needless to say, picking up Bucky on November 22, 2015 was a milestone moment for us. It also was the start of a journey down the wormhole that is Hunt Tests and Dog Training. Before I talked to Kim Pfister, I had no idea what a Hunt Test was or what all those letters in front of or behind a dogs name on a Pedigree meant. Five years later, I still have a lot to learn but my life is richer for the experience.
Bucky turned out to be an outstanding addition to our family and an experience in dog training that while frustrating at many moments, has been an extremely rewarding one. Bucky is an extremely hard working and driven hunter and competitor. He has also developed the look in the hunting blind that leaves no doubt what he's thinking when dad misses another bird! DAD!!!!!!
