Thank you to all of you who attended our first TSVS Dinner last night! We could not have done it without our friends at Elanco and VetzPetz.

We learned about radiographic technique, orthopedic exams, preoperative care, postoperative care, pain management, supplements, and much more!

We are looking forward to the next dinner and hope to see some of you there!

We want to clarify...

You may have heard about a new veterinary emergency clinic opening recently, Hill Country Animal Emergency Hospital (HCAEH). This hospital is owned by most of the local referring veterinarians serving as a resource for them to provide emergency after care for their patients and regional pet owners.

Hill Country Veterinary Surgical Specialty (HCVSS) is an elective only surgery center located inside the same building as HCAEH and open one day per week.

Texas Specialty Veterinary Services (TSVS) is still open and operating as normal Monday-Friday. Drs. Dosal, Franklin, Souza and Harper will continue to provide care and appropriate procedures for your pet owners at your facility.

We are passionate to continue to serve your hospital and your clients! 💙

If you have any questions, please reach out to Erin Pressler at [email protected]

Let's all give a round of applause for Dakota! He graduated from TSVS Rehabilitation and Conditioning!

Here's Dakota's Mom's testimony:
"This is Dakota, he is our 6-year-old chocolate Lab. He is on his last day of rehabilitation. He had surgery with the TSVS team in September for a TPLO, and he has done remarkably well! He has enjoyed his TSVS Rehab team, all the peanut butter and all the treats!"

Great job, Kim and Dakota!

Did you know cranial cruciate ligament disease is the most common orthopedic condition diagnosed in dogs?

Complete or partial tears in dogs occur 5x more often in dogs than in humans!

Due to a dog's anatomy, when their cranial cruciate ligament (ACL) is torn or ruptured, the knee becomes unstable and painful.

So, what is a TPLO?

TPLO stands for Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy.

This surgery makes changes to the biomechanics of the knee to reduce pain and instability. During surgery, a curved cut will be made near the top of the tibia. The top of the bone is, then, rotated to reduce the slope on the top of the tibia. A stainless steel or titanium locking bone plate is applied to the tibia with bone screws to secure the tibia in position while the bone heals.

At TSVS, we perform close to 1000 of these per year! We take pride in being able to offer these procedures within your primary veterinary practice and work side by side with your veterinarian to achieve successful results for your pet!

The images below are of "Amelia" at week 8 of her recovery. She is a 4-year-old Labrador Retriever and on her way back to her old mischievous self!

Did you know administering Prazosin to cats to help prevent rUO could be doing more harm than good?

Numerous veterinarians prescribe this medication to alleviate rUO, but studies show the reoccurrence rate is actually HIGHER in cats who receive Prazosin!

"There was no significant association between prazosin administration and risk for rUO prior to discharge; however, within 14 days following discharge, the cumulative rate of reobstruction was significantly higher in cats treated with prazosin (73 [24%]) compared with cats not treated with prazosin (11 [13%])."
Take a few minutes and read the article below for additional information and study findings.

When managing a cat for urethral obstruction, one of the main goals is to prevent recurrence. Discover whether this medication commonly prescribed for prevention is doing more harm than good.

Joint Supplements... administering them to your pet provides numerous benefits! Veterinarians recommend and prescribe them daily, but there are so many to choose from!

TSVS recommends Antinol.

-Antinol only has 3 ingredients in each soft gel.
-Antinol has undergone analysis by a third party.
-Antinol has 15 published studies, one peer reviewed, and two additional studies to be published by the end of 2022.
-Antinol is more than a potent natural supplement for joint comfort and mobility! Antinol may also help support skin/coat health and cardiovascular health and increase cognitive function.
-Antinol is NOT sold on Chewy.com, 1-800-PetMeds, or any other internet pharmacy.

Click on the picture below or visit www.antinol.com to read more about the benefits of Antinol.

If your primary veterinarian's office does not carry Antinol, you can visit www.antinol.com & it will be delivered to your home! See the code at the bottom corner of the picture below.

If you are a veterinarian and you would like to try Antinol or would like more information, please reach out to Andy Ramos at [email protected]

Interesting article proving the more you do things at a very high volume the better, more precise and accurate you become at delivering those procedures.

At TSVS, we feel the same about a majority of the primary surgeries we perform- TPLO, fracture repair and more.

Want to make suire your pet is in the best hands? Bring them to a specialist! New research suggests that might be at a high volume clinic.

We had a special night celebrating our friend and co-worker, Cody!

Over the last 3 years, he has brought so much joy, hard work, and passion into the work place. We are so sad to see him go, but it's a "See ya Soon!" rather than "Good Bye", because we know he will do great things in his life and in veterinary medicine as Cody Kotara, DVM!

We are so proud of you!

Let's welcome Dr. Camila Souza to the TSVS team!

Dr. Camila Souza graduated from University of Sao Paulo, in Brazil, and came to the United States to pursue specialization in Equine Surgery in 2009. She completed an internship at Washington State University (WSU) followed by a Master of Science and Residency program in equine surgery. After completing her residency, she stayed at WSU for 3 more years working as a clinical instructor and as the primary equine emergency clinician and surgeon. She went on from there to a position as Clinical Assistant Professor at Kansas State University (KSU) also working as the primary emergency surgeon. At KSU, she also worked in collaboration with a professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department to investigate the mechanical forces responsible for failure of a common implant used to treat comminuted fractures in horses. They plan on publishing the results of their study soon.
Following her time at KSU, she moved on to work as
the primary surgeon at an equine private practice near Houston, TX.

Dr. Souza joined Texas Specialty Veterinary Services to expand her horizons, undergo additional training in small animal surgery with the surgeons at TSVS and to continue pursuing her passion for veterinary orthopedic surgery.

Outside of work you can find her hiking, biking, fly fishing, throwing BBQ parties for her friends, doing woodwork and diving into house renovation projects with her husband.

Delivering In-House Surgical Solutions

Texas Specialty Veterinary Services, PLLC is a mobile in-house surgical service that provides specialty surgical procedures to both veterinarians and pet owners within the hospital of the primary veterinarian. We are leaders in the region for TPLO cruciate repair techniques.

We work directly with veterinarians to offer affordable procedures that might not normally be available to their clients due to costs at large specialty referral centers, geographic restrictions to large specialty referral centers, or simply the client’s desire to stay within the setting of their regular veterinary practice.

This relationship allows veterinarians to offer another value-added service to their clients by providing surgical services for select procedures directly in the confines of their practice.

Areas we currently serve include San Antonio, Texas Hill Country, and the I 35 corridor (between Austin and San Antonio). Cities including San Antonio, Boerne, Leon Springs, Comfort, Kerrville, Junction, Fredericksburg, Bandera, Pipe Creek, Helotes, Bergheim, Bulverde, Blanco, Smithson Valley, New Braunfels, Schertz, Marion, Seguin, Lulling, Lockhart, China Grove, La Vernia, Floresville, San Marcos, Wimberley, Kyle, Buda, Lockhart.
