We provide lifelong love and care to our animals while offering programs that promote kindness, compassion, and stewardship. Magical Creatures Sanctuary is a Nonprofit Animal Sanctuary in Laupahoehoe, Big Island, Hawaii. We are a public charity under section 501(c)(3), meaning all donations are tax deductible

MCS provides lifelong care for the animals that we take in. Though we are not an open-

intake sanctuary, we do everything that we can to make sure that injured, neglected, or lost farmed animals can find peace with us. This includes housing, feeding, providing medical care, and giving them all the love they can handle. Change starts within the community, and we are grateful for the opportunities that we have to share the stories of the animals at MCS. We want to stop the cycle of farmed animal abuse by educating our community and advocating for the animals every chance that we get. Since its inception, MCS has worked with other local organizations and community groups to provide expertise, help sick and injured animals find care, and sometimes take in animals when the need arises. We are happy to be able to be a part of a network that truly cares for animals and to play our part in helping as many animals as possible.

📍BABY NEEDS HOME ASAP!! 🐐

A male baby goat was found alone in Waikoloa Village. He still has his umbilical cord, I’m thinking he’s 1-3 weeks old. He will need frequent bottles, whole cows milk is great!!

The woman who found baby cannot keep him. She needs him to be rehomed ASAP! Please help spread the word, comment if you know anyone that could help, and share with those that may be interested. She’s hoping he can be taken to his forever home tomorrow.

We want baby to go to a home with other goats with good fencing and a shelter (no tie-outs)

NOTE: Goats are herd animals and need to be with others. Being alone (i.e. not with another goat or sheep) can have a detrimental impact on them.

We have sad news to share 😢 Lava Mama has passed away. She brought so much love and joy to Magical Creatures Sanctuary and to everyone who knew her. We are deeply saddened. 💔

We rescued Lava Mama from the 2018 Kilauea eruption and soon discovered she arrived with a young baby! Although ill at arrival, her baby Roxy fought for her new life with her mama. Mama and her baby Roxy were doing great until one day in 2022, Mama tweaked her back and became paralyzed in her lower half. We noticed an abscess by her spine and Helena worked tirelessly to investigate the cause. Although faced with a new life, Mama remained in good spirits, bringing a smile to everyone’s face. With her new home by the office, she was able to help every incoming baby transition into their new home! ✨🐐

We’ve had thoughtful ongoing discussions about Mama’s quality of life. While Mama still had some okay days, those moments became fewer, and her periods of discomfort had become longer and harder to manage. At this point, her bad days outweigh her good ones, and to be quite honest, even her good days aren’t what they used to be.

This is not a decision any of us take lightly. Our team has been seeing this moment approach for the last year, and it has been weighing heavily on us. Saying goodbye is never easy, but it’s a responsibility we hold with love and care. ❤️‍🩹

Thank you for loving Mama with us. Though she’s no longer with us, her memory will always live on in the hearts of those she touched. Our resident Mama can now run free, with nothing holding her back. 💗 We appreciate your kindness and understanding as we navigate this loss 🌈🫶🏼🐐

In light of today, I wanted to give a special shout out to our beautiful and amazing Founder, Helena, and all the other women who help make this place magical (plus Grant)!! Meet Princess Leia! 👑

As many of you know, we’re currently at capacity here at the sanctuary. But when Leia’s family reached out to us — having exhausted every other option — we knew we couldn’t say no. This sweet lamb wouldn’t have survived without us. 💔

Like our girl Menina, Leia was born with deformities in her front legs — likely a result of not enough space in the womb, which is common with multiple babies. This means Leia will need extra medical care, and she’s going to be a expensive little lamb to care for! Her spunky personality is already coming through, she keeps us laughing and on our toes everyday. We can’t wait to watch her grow up!! 🥹
