Unfortunately it is not uncommon to lose a puppy or two in a litter. They have so little time to develop in the womb and are so very fragile at birth. Galahad (purple collar boy) was too sweet for this world and passed at two days old. We hope to meet him again somehow somewhere. Rest easy sweet boy.

The rest of the litter, is so far strong and healthy and receiving round the clock care. Mama Fizzgig is a very good mother and doing a great job.

Sadie had a lot of fun at the Western Regional’s pilot coonhound instinct test. While it’s not at the level of hunting or field trials it was a lot of fun to get some green dogs out and do puppy drags and talk to handlers about hunting, tracking, and other ways to utilize these wonderful hound noses.

Sadie had the high score of the night, successfully tracking, trailing and baying up a raccoon drag at an acceptable novice level!

Happy celestial birthday to our first Black and Tan, and the best girl in the world— Kyra. She passed away last year at 15 years and 8 months old and it’s hard to believe she’s been gone so long.

And happy birthday to Mari who turns 7 tomorrow and is now a veteran! Looking forward to many more birthdays with our newest old lady.

Four month old great grand babies Houston and Whitney at their first dog show last weekend at the Cascade Hound Association shows. They played in the beginner puppy class and Houston was Best Puppy in Show on Sunday. These two are from the Basel X Olympia litter owned by Shelley Campbell.

Available Rescue Foster!

Constance has a meet and greet in a few weeks but if she's not a good fit for that family, she will be looking for a home at the end of June after she's recovered from her spay.

Constance is NOT of our breeding but has been being fostered with us for the last two months. If you don't currently have any dogs, or only one mellow dog, and are looking for an older hound, Constance may be the perfect fit for your family.

She is 6-7 years old, house trained and does not appear to have any predatory interest in small dogs. She can be very possessive of her food and toys though, so we recommend a home with either one mellow dog, or no other dogs for safety, and no young children. She has not shown any resource guarding towards people, but has with other dogs.

She is leash broken, house broken, and has her basic commands (sit, down, shake). She has a persistent ear infection from her time at large and likely neglect before that, so that may be an on again off again issue during her life.

She loves belly rubs, running around the yard, snuggling in bed and doing tricks. She would probably enjoy (on leash) hiking and walks, and is very food motivated!

A local Kennel Club did a stand alone FastCAT event this weekend. We decided to make the drive over for one day and bring some critters. Bean, Sadie, and Laska are old hands and had a great time. Fizzgig got to give it a go for the first time and while she wasn’t sure at first she eventually figured out (at least enough to run to mom)! Ember got to tag along and watch the lure and meet lots of new folks. Here’s a fun slowmo of one of Bean’s runs.

Foster Rescue Black and Tan Coonhound Connie is a very sweet kid who is settling in nicely. Once she’s all healed up and healthy again she will be available to adopt through Northwest Bloodhound Rescue. If you’re interested in Connie keep an eye out as we’ll share again when she’s adoption ready. Likely in 4-5 weeks if everything goes well. She’s a gentle girl but like many rescue hounds who have gone without food and comforts at times, has a tendency to guard her things. She’ll be best suited for a home with no kids and no or only one other (calm) dog.

Sadie had a busy week with 3 days of buried workshops! She started with only having worked one buried course prior and finished having learned a new odor (cypress) and working known hides in master level courses. Super proud of her progress and it’s so fun to watch her thing through things.

We submitted for Sadie’s trick dog performer finally! Now starting to work on elite! She’s such a fun dog with a great sense of humor.

Sadie completed rattlesnake aversion training today. It wasn’t super fun for either of us but I’m glad that she’s now encountered a rattlesnake and knows rushing up to them has consequence.

Always a good weekend when you earn two new titles! Pending AKC, Sadie finished up her TKA today. Our goal is to complete the Trick Dog Elite Performer title in time to enter the National Virtual Trick Dog competition which is only open to dogs titled at the Elite Performer level. The participation medals are super cute and it seems like a fun competition. Also huge congrats to Windbourne Farm Black & Tan Coonhounds on Basel’s first Reserve Best in Show this evening at the Tacoma Kennel Club shows!

Meanwhile at home it’s a pool day!

Pending AKC, Sadie has earned her TKN and TKI! We’re almost done filming for her TKA and then we’ll move on to performer. Sadie is super dramatic and loves learning new tricks.

A little bit late but huge congrats to Windbourne Farm Black & Tan Coonhounds and team Remy on their weekend at Puyallup! Remy retired in style with a Best in Show Saturday, and three hound group 1’s. We’ll miss seeing her in the ring.

We were fortunate enough to get some video from Sadie’s High in Trial Novice run a few weeks ago in Port Angeles! Here is Sadie’s Novice Exterior run.
