Leptastrea coral is a type of small polyp stony (SPS) coral that is native to the Indo-Pacific region. It is a relatively hardy coral and is often recommended for beginner or intermediate-level reef keepers.
Leptastrea coral has a distinctive appearance, with small, round corallites that have a grooved appearance. The corallites can be various colors, including brown, green, yellow, and pink, and may have contrasting colored mouths.
In the aquarium, leptastrea coral requires moderate to high lighting and moderate water flow. It is a photosynthetic coral, meaning it derives much of its nutrition from the zooxanthellae (algae) that live within its tissues. It also benefits from regular feeding of small meaty foods, such as plankton, mysis shrimp, and cyclopeeze.
