ARL Dog Sports offers K9 Nose Work classes in Maryland and Northern Virginia. She has trained four of her own dogs using NASCW K9 Nose Work principles.

Ann Roseberry Lincoln, CNWI, has been interested in dog behavior from an early age. She once submitted a paper for her high school psychology class evaluating the hypothesis that dogs express emotions. (Her paper received a failing grade, since the prevailing belief at the time was that no animal aside from humans could possibly show emotion.) Several of her dogs have achieved high levels of recog

nition in nose work trials throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Ann also has a strong background in positive reinforcement training and dog behavior. She is excited to offer K9 Nose Work classes in Maryland and Northern Virginia using NACSW methods. In addition to training her dogs for nose work, Ann trains her dogs in sheep herding, another sport that requires reliance on the dog’s natural abilities.

HUGE congratulations to DySe and his handler, Kathy Marshall! She told me that he earned his NW1 title in Waynesboro, PA, yesterday. Turns out that he didn’t just earn his NW1 but placed 1st in containers and vehicles, 2nd in exteriors, and 1st overall! What a fantastic start to a nose work career!

Edited to add: the next closest competitor, also finding all the hides, took a full 2:10.02 longer!

Yesterday, Meg earned her ELT3 title in Lebanon, NJ, despite failing to find all the hides in one search. In the other three searches, she found all the hides and was “pronounced” in all of them, with a third place finish in one.

Huge Congratulations to two of my students! Micah (Kris Campesi) and Bee (Kathy Marshall) earned their NW1 titles in Phoenix, MD on Saturday. Bee is the border collie on the left, and Micah is the Golden Retriever on the right. Both also earned the coveted "Pronounced" for several of their searches. Way to go, guys!

Dogs are truly amazing! Not that this ability surprises me at all, but that is has been studied and proven does.

In real-life settings, dogs probably use a variety of contextual signals, and the study results show odor is also a component that dogs can pick up on.

Super congratulations to Katch and Diane Smart on earning Katch's NW3 elite title! Katch took first place in one search, third in another, and third overall. He also earned a "Pronounced" title, which means that in all of his searches, the judges felt that he and Diane showed exceptional teamwork. Way to go!
