North Dakota 2025- We had a great trip to ND this past week, duck hunting in the morning and upland hunting the rest of the day. My main goal for this trip was to allow Desi to apply her training to real world situations. She learned a lot about wild birds and retrieving ducks in cold water cattail sloughs. The highlight of the trip was when Desi pointed a pair of roosters in a tree row. She was steady until released and retrieved the big, old bird with its tail dragging on the ground.
The rest of the dogs performed like the seasoned bird dogs they are, and produced lots of birds for the guns. Fire loves diving into thick sloughs in search of pheasants, and will retrieve anything that hits the ground. Nadia and Stewie covered miles of prairie, handling pheasants, sharptails, and Huns throughout the trip.
