"Bruce is a mature gentleman who came to me after living his entire life in cages, in various stressful and unsanitary environments. We know he has been moved from shelter to shelter. At some point he landed in a hoarding situation with 75 other dogs, each of them kept in their own cages out in the Southern CA desert sun. When that encampment got busted, most of the dogs were euthanized. Bruce’s sweet demeanor meant he got to keep his life, but he was immediately placed on the euthanasia list at the shelter due to crowding. Someone grabbed him and dropped him off at a boarding facility and never came back, and that’s where he sat forgotten for 3 years.

He was emaciated, full of infections, and traumatized. His teeth were worn down from chewing the cage bars, his hindquarters atrophied, and his tail broken and bald in several places. His skin health was in trouble, flaky and stinking to the high heavens. His coat was dull and patchy, making the scars all over his body visible. His mental health was in just as much of a state.

It’s no surprise that with the constant stress he endured, day after day, year after year, we wound up with significant health issues. Within a couple week of adopting him, I learned that he has kidney disease and advanced lymphoma. Neither condition has a cure, and the vet told me that most dogs in his condition will live for 3-6 months.

Here we are, 4 months into our time together and 1 month into our Solutions diet, and I can hardly believe my eyes. Bruce is thriving! He’s robust, strong and svelt. Since starting him on Solutions, his fur has grown in to a beautiful silky seal coat. Even the bulbous bald patches on his tail grew in. Everyone who sees him now hardly recognizes him - I’m regularly told “he looks like a completely different dog!” His skin is healthy and his intense odor is gone. Even though there’s been evidence that the cancer has spread to his stomach, those symptoms are already subsiding. It’s evident that we have a lot longer than 2 more months together. I’m so glad because this dog is amazing and he deserves a long, happy rest of his life. "

These are the stories that pull it all together for us - people like Drea who rescue hopeless cases and try their damndest to make a quality life for them in spite of the odds. Love and respect and quality nutrition - three pillars of a well lived life. Thank you everyone who contributes to this sort of brightness 🌻
