Bonnie has an exciting announcement - She's ready to leave the nest and join her forever home! Learn about Bonnie here and through and through her individual Facebook album. If you think you've got everything she needs, head to our website to submit an adoption application.

**All applicants must be 21 or older and live within the Carolinas or Georgia. Submitting an adoption application is the first step in the process to adopt ANY SECR rescue dog. SECR's primary commitment is to the rescue dogs in our care, and it is our mission to find the right home for every dog, not the right dog for every home. Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis to find the best fit for each available rescue dog, and our admin team will follow up with qualified applicants after applications are fully processed.

Kory is checking in to share that he’s settling in to the new foster home he was looking for, where he can slowly get used to life as a family dog at a slower pace. He’ll soon be visiting the vet for some additional vaccines he was too underweight to receive when he first came into rescue, but Kory isn’t yet out of the woods.

He’s still drastically underweight and, as a result, his overall body condition poor. His foster family will continue to work with him to get his appetite up and improve his nutrition as a top priority. A neuter is still in his future as well, but we need to weight until he reaches the 30-pound range before it’s safe to proceed with surgery.

Stay tuned for updates about Kory. We’ll share more about his recovery soon, but in the meantime are happy to see this cute boy with his blep. ❤️

Birdie is in Southern Pines, NC and looking for her new family after both of her owners’ recent passing.

She is a 7-year-old girl in need of a childfree home with no other animals (no exceptions). Birdie is also on a special diet due to previous issues with kidney stones, so her new family will need to commit to keep her on the required nutritional regimen.

Birdie’s extended family describes her as sweet and smart, and tells us that she loves her frisbee! She is spayed and will be visiting the vet soon for a routine checkup, vaccines, and heartworm testing. If you don’t have any other pets or kids in your home and can give Birdie the new life she’s looking for, please reach out to the contact below for more information and to inquire about adoption:

You can also send Mickey a DM through Facebook.

**Please note: Birdie is not an SECR dog. Her extended family is managing her rehoming, and we do not have any involvement in or influence on placement decisions. If you are interested in adoption, please reach out to Micky directly.

Wishing a prosperous and bright Festival of Lights to all those celebrating Diwali today and tomorrow.

Please join us in welcoming a very special boy to SECR - Kory.

Kory is a senior we recently pulled from the shelter with obvious previous neglect and very poor nutrition. He needs a lot of support to reach a healthy weight and body condition, as well as care for slight anemia.

Kory has already seen our vet and will visit again soon to get a repeat f***l analysis and monitor his GI system as well as get caught up on additional needed vaccines. A neuter is also in his future. However, timing of what can happen when depends on his progress with weight gain and overall improvement in his body condition.

Kory is currently in a temporary foster home but we are looking for a longer-term placement with a foster family that can see him through his recovery. Kory lives other dogs but is also dependent on them, so would likely do best with a more submissive female that doesn’t mind having a “shadow” to give him support.

If this sounds like the kind of home you can provide, please visit our website to submit a foster application. When you apply, mention this post and that you’re specifically interested in Kory.

There’s a new corgi in the family! Say hello to Phillip.

Phillip joins SECR as a recent shelter pull. He’s an adult boy but is behind on socialization and training and in need of guidance to become the best boy he can be. He’s currently getting settled into his new foster home with two canine siblings that are working hard to introduce him to the good life and how to slowly get to know the cat. Phillip is also getting caught up on routine vet care.

He’s new to rescue and not yet ready for adoption, but stay tuned for more updates about Philip as we get to know more about him.
