The Horse is one of the subspecies of Equus ferus, it is an odd toed mammal. Humans began to domesticate horses as early as around 3000 BC. There are some populations of feral horses that are not true wild horses as the term is used to describe horses that have never been domesticated, such as the endangered Przewalski s horse, a separate subspecies. A horse’s life span is usually around 25-30 yea
rs of age and their average weight is 1,102 lbs. for a medium sized horse, and the average height is 15 hands high, the average speed at a gallop is approximately 27 mph, and their average gestation period is 320-370 days long. Horses have the largest eyes of all land mammals and their brains are half the size of a humans weighing in at only 22 oz. Horses are not able to vomit so they can become very ill from a stomach ache and die. Horses can sleep either standing up or laying down, however horses will not lie down simultaneously because one will act as a look out to alert its companions of danger. We all love horses for what they embody for us like freedom, courageous spirit, exploring adventure, achieving perseverance, and direct drive. Horses are gentle, loyal, fierce friends and the ultimate travel companions who are willing to go the distance with you.
