Crabapple Downs Standard Poodles Crabapple Downs Standard Poodles is located in Colebrook, New Hampshire Our Sires are all American Lines, while our Dams are outcrossed English-German lines.

As highly responsible breeders, we are very much against in-breeding and/or line-breeding, and try to outcross with dogs that are as unrelated to our dogs as possible. We feel that a diverse gene pool is crucial to the longevity and good health of our Poodles. Our poodles are registered with the American Kennel Club, and we strive to produce dogs that exemplify the breed standard in health, temper

ament and conformation. We have worked with service dog organizations such as APAW (American Poodles At Work) and the NEADS Service Dog Program. At Crabapple Downs, we believe strongly in diversity in the bloodlines of our poodles to correct the in-breeding and line-breeding that has been done with the breed in the past. On the average, most American Standard Poodle lines reach as high as 25 percent inbreeding! This practice of breeding cousins to one another places the breed at risk for recessive genetic disorders including SA, Addisons' Disease and autoimmune disorders. All of our parents, even the American lines, have a low in-breeding coefficient percentage (COI), and we follow a very careful breeding program to achieve an even lower in-breeding coefficient percentage. COI's are computed on 10 generations. When it comes to placing our puppies with their new families, we are careful to make certain that they are going to caring, responsible, knowledgeable and permanent homes. Someone must be at home to care for the puppy during the day. Poodles do not develop well being left home alone. We are also not advocates for any type of crate training. We want our pups raised like a human child...by your side and not stuffed in box. Potential buyers are screened accordingly, and must visit our kennel in person so that we can meet them. We do not ship our puppies. We also require that potential new owners attend puppy obedience classes with their new addition and read books on our recommended reading list. We are always happy to provide new owners with advice and support, and encourage you to stay in touch with us after you take your puppy home. Our poodle prices are fair; we breed out of our love for poodles and our desire to improve the breed - not for capital gain. Our goal is to produce healthy, happy poodles that will live a long life. We feel that we owe this to the breed that we love so much and that has given us so many years of love and companionship in return.

This lovely lady I call Estelle, which means "Star" and the name is quite fitting since she has a white star on her chest. She is the last female from Esther standard litter from this summer. She is approaching her five month birthday and is a blue brindle. She will be a fairly good size girl around 70 pounds full grown. She is up-to-date on vaccinations and for anyone approved she can be scheduled a new health certificate to go out to a Home. For more information please email and provide us information on you and your household. Someone must be home during the day to properly raise her with no crate training.

I would like to introduce Maisie and Matilda. These two girls are the last two pups from our past March litter ( Mabel x Ozzie born 3-22-24)that are still looking for the right fitting Home. They are seven months old and will be around 60 pounds full-grown. They do have requirements that do need to be met in order to be considered as a potential home. Those requirements would be as follows:
A fenced in yard above ground type fencing, 5 foot or higher. Not the electric type fencing.
Another dog living in the home currently preferably neutered male.
Someone at home during the day as these girls would not do well-being left home alone. They need someone at home to show them guidance and reassurance.
The potential home would need to be in the New Hampshire area or surrounding New England states.
No young children under the age of eight. Even though they are smaller standards, they are very busy and bouncy and could send a young child flying. They have no experience with young children and we would not recommend them going to home with younger children in the home under the age of eight.
They are both sweet and social but would need time in a new home to learn a new routine and someone with patience to help them through a transition hence why we ask that there’s another dog in the home for them to have someone to follow around. It makes the transition a lot easier and smoother . Crate training will NOT be approved.
Both of these girls will be going down for a new health certificate in a couple weeks. All of their shots are up-to-date and they do not need anything for vaccinations until they are a year old. Once approved as a potential home we would suggest coming up to meet the ladies and seeing which one would be a good fit for you and your household, and then coming back for the chosen one once the health certificates have been updated.
In order to be approved as a potential home, you must email Arlene and Emily with information about you and your home and your family dynamic. You MUST be able to meet all of the requirements in order to be approved.

A couple updated pictures of the remaining puppy from our July standard litter. (Esther x Chipper born 7-10-24) She was featured as the puppy with a hot pink collar on in previous pictures and she will be blue brindle in color. She should be around 70 pounds full-grown. She is super social and great with other dogs. She would do well as another addition to a dog already living in the home or could go out to a home being the only dog in the home to be fully doted on as she loves attention as with any of our puppies. She is currently available and has a current health certificate now. If interested, please know someone must be home to properly raise her as we do not want our puppies crate trained if someone is out the door working. Poodles do not develop well being left home alone. Please email with information about you and your family and who will be the one home to raise her. Once approved an appointment can be scheduled to come meet her.

This is the last pup left from our July standard litter (Esther X Chipper born 7-10-24). She will most likely be a brindle in color like her mother. She will be around 70lbs full grown, very confident and is dog friendly and people oriented. She would be a great older children's dog or be in an adult home only. She would also be a great addition to a family with a dog already living in the home. Pups that go out to a home with another dog in the home, learn house training quickly as they have someone to follow around and learn the ropes to a new routine.
The one requirement we ask is that someone is home to properly raise her. Poodles do not develop well being left home all alone and we do not want our pups crate trained while someone is out the door working the day away.
If interested please email Arlene and Emily with info on you and your house hold and who will be home to raise a new pup. Once approved an appointment can be scheduled to come meet her and possibly take her home.

Another memory of 2018's party. We had this same fella this year for our saturday workshop and he got great reviews of his work.
Jeff Scarpino runs a canine facility in northern VT called "Off the Beaten Trail". He is very knowledgeable, and we enjoyed having him once more.

What a wonderful memory, a full dining hall back in 2018 for the 18th annual poodle party. We usually see close to a 100 people for dinner saturday night and this was one of the years we did a big buffet of different meal options including Roast Turkey with all the fixings plus soup and apple or blue berry crisp of dessert. Anyone that has come to one of the parties never leaves with an empty stomach. Our slogan is "The Poodle Mountain Grill... The best meal you can get in the north country for 3 days and then some" lol This years crowd may have been smaller and we did not do a buffet for supper but people were raving about our baked ziti and potato topped chicken pie! Next year we will be back to the three days and hoping those that couldn't come this year will be with us for next year!

Check this out! Our 20th annual party made the local newspaper and even better, right on the front page!! Story and more pictures on the second page. A few little mishaps (wrong name of one of the dogs and a wrong wording on a harness for the skijoring workshop) but other than that is was pretty good. Should of also included it does take a staff of people to help keep the kitchen running. (I kind of took all the glory but I do run a right ship lol) You can read this paper right online on their website and anyone wanting a hard copy, you may be able to print it off of I may be talked into sending out a few papers. Enjoy and please join us next year for our reunion! It was so good seeing some of our favorite people and their dogs! www.colebrookchronicle.com

And now--the last week of September! Here is the Sept 27 issue, ready to read online!
