Crabapple Downs Standard Poodles Crabapple Downs Standard Poodles is located in Colebrook, New Hampshire Our Sires are all American Lines, while our Dams are outcrossed English-German lines.

As highly responsible breeders, we are very much against in-breeding and/or line-breeding, and try to outcross with dogs that are as unrelated to our dogs as possible. We feel that a diverse gene pool is crucial to the longevity and good health of our Poodles. Our poodles are registered with the American Kennel Club, and we strive to produce dogs that exemplify the breed standard in health, temper

ament and conformation. We have worked with service dog organizations such as APAW (American Poodles At Work) and the NEADS Service Dog Program. At Crabapple Downs, we believe strongly in diversity in the bloodlines of our poodles to correct the in-breeding and line-breeding that has been done with the breed in the past. On the average, most American Standard Poodle lines reach as high as 25 percent inbreeding! This practice of breeding cousins to one another places the breed at risk for recessive genetic disorders including SA, Addisons' Disease and autoimmune disorders. All of our parents, even the American lines, have a low in-breeding coefficient percentage (COI), and we follow a very careful breeding program to achieve an even lower in-breeding coefficient percentage. COI's are computed on 10 generations. When it comes to placing our puppies with their new families, we are careful to make certain that they are going to caring, responsible, knowledgeable and permanent homes. Someone must be at home to care for the puppy during the day. Poodles do not develop well being left home alone. We are also not advocates for any type of crate training. We want our pups raised like a human child...by your side and not stuffed in box. Potential buyers are screened accordingly, and must visit our kennel in person so that we can meet them. We do not ship our puppies. We also require that potential new owners attend puppy obedience classes with their new addition and read books on our recommended reading list. We are always happy to provide new owners with advice and support, and encourage you to stay in touch with us after you take your puppy home. Our poodle prices are fair; we breed out of our love for poodles and our desire to improve the breed - not for capital gain. Our goal is to produce healthy, happy poodles that will live a long life. We feel that we owe this to the breed that we love so much and that has given us so many years of love and companionship in return.

We are down to just one female in Lucy’s litter still waiting for her forever home to come about. I have been calling her Lacey. She has just been down to our vets yesterday for a new health certificate and is now available once more. She is a sweet girl who will be around 25 pounds full grown, but she is definitely more a thinker than a doer. She would be best in a home with adults only as kids I think would be too stimulating for her. She would benefit from going to a home that already has a dog currently living in the home. As she is more a follower than a leader. She is very gentle and her light kisses are enough to melt anyone’s heart. Someone must be home to raise her as she would not develop being left home all alone. That is our only requirement with her. If you are a current or former crabapple owner, you would also qualify for an additional discount. She is up-to-date on her vaccinations and just had her rabies shot done yesterday. Could you be the one she’s been waiting for?
For more information, please email with information about you in your household and who will be home to properly raise her.

We had five retired breeders that made their way back to our Poodle party last month. Pictured here is the Merrill family with two of our retired breeders, Deja Vu and Alice ( now Gypsy). The Merrill family lives in New London, New Hampshire. And we had offspring from both of their dogs visiting at the party. The second picture is of one of Alice’s boys named Gunner. It was so neat getting to see offspring and parents reconnecting. We have had a few over the years come back for our party, but this year having five was amazing! Thank you to those that made the trek back up to us this year. It made our party even more special!

A little late posting these. But we had just received them a couple days ago. These pictures were taken by our local newspaper reporter at our Poodle party. We were originally supposed to have a group picture taking on Saturday, but for some reason that just kind of fizzled out. So he came back up for our costume party and talk to him into doing a group photo of the people that were still there on Sunday. We had twice as many people on Saturday and I had hoped that we would get a group photo taken, but better luck next year. A couple of the photos are also from the costume party, including a lineup of this year‘s costumes. The other group photo is everyone that was still with us on Sunday. This year‘s party was another good one to put in the books. Now we will be thinking about our 22nd year. That will be taking place the third weekend of September next year. Thank you all that joined us for a wonderful weekend of laughs, fun, great conversations, and for sharing our love of our poodles.

A couple group shots from the play session with Lucy‘s litter yesterday. (Lucy x Erik born 7-23-25 moyens) This litter has so much flare of personality! This will be our only litter for the fall season. We have six females and two males left available. A great size, personality of a full-size standard and a smaller size. This size in particular are great for extracurricular activities like nursing home visits and trips to a school and or library to read to children. Not to mention a lot easier to lift up in a vehicle and takes up less space on a bed! Puppies will range in size with the smallest being just under 25 and the biggest being around 30 pounds full grown. If you have been wanting to spice up your life, a little bit, these puppies will bring lots of joy and laughs into your home! If interested, please email with information about you in your household and who will be home to raise a new baby. These puppies would make a great addition to a home as the only dog or as a companion to a dog currently living in the home.

Live action video of Lucy’s currently available moyen pups!! Ready for homes!!

How can it be that it has already been a week since our Annual Poodle party reunion took place? It was a great weekend and still have more pictures to post just never enough time in the day!
I want to say a big THANK YOU, to all the folks that came up and joined us for 2 fun filled days! According to our registration we had 51 people register (not counting a hand full of kids) and about 50 dogs through out the weekend. We had great weather, lots of good laughs and all the dogs got along without any major arguments. Meals were a little late getting out of the summer kitchen mainly because we were still serving breakfast at 11:30 for some late stragglers. Everyone raved about the food and the night time specials and soups were big hits.
Karaoke was a little lacking this year but we were also lacking our usual opera singer guests this year, but we still made the best of it and some of us did get up to sing a few times! Ma Poodle (Arlene) had a really good time singing some of her favorite classics along with a few poodle friends.
The grooming workshop, afternoon "games using your dog's nose" and the raffle table all went well. We unfortunately did not get a group picture on Saturday afternoon as hoped but we did get one taken after the costume contest on Sunday.
All in all it was a great weekend and thank you to the ones that joined us for the fun. For the ones that couldn't make it this year... we hope you come back next year. The dates have been set for the same weekend next year (Sept 19th and 20th) Some of our normals could not come this year and your lack of presence was definitely felt but the show went on, and we did have a great time.
We also had 5 retired breeders come to the party this year and that was AMAZING! Thank you to their folks for bringing them and experiencing the party! It was so neat to see parents and offspring together as adults!!
We have had 2 pictures in our local newspaper so far. You can see these pictures on line at :www.colebrookchronicle.com
Hoping for a few more in this coming weeks newspaper.
Another year put in the books, now on to the 22nd annual for 2026!
Thank you all that came and made this year's party what it was. Thank you to all the people that took time from their regular jobs to help get the party off and running! With out you the party wouldn't be possible!!!

These are our available pups in Lucy’s litter. ( Lucy Lockett x Erik the red sm/med moyens born 7-23-25). Pictures are of one male and two females. These puppies are ready to go now!
The only requirement we have for pups at this age is someone home during the day to properly raise them. Poodle puppy should be raised by a person’s side like a human child would be raised. They do not develop well if they are left home all alone. Pups will be between 20 and 30 pounds roughly full grown. This is an amazing group of puppies with exceptional personalities.
If interested, please email with information about you and your household/family dynamic and who will be the one at home to raise a new baby.
