Crabapple Downs Standard Poodles Crabapple Downs Standard Poodles is located in Colebrook, New Hampshire Our Sires are all American Lines, while our Dams are outcrossed English-German lines.

As highly responsible breeders, we are very much against in-breeding and/or line-breeding, and try to outcross with dogs that are as unrelated to our dogs as possible. We feel that a diverse gene pool is crucial to the longevity and good health of our Poodles. Our poodles are registered with the American Kennel Club, and we strive to produce dogs that exemplify the breed standard in health, temper

ament and conformation. We are also members of the Northern New Hampshire Pet Therapy Group, the North Country Humane Society and the NEADS Service Dog Program. At Crabapple Downs, we believe strongly in diversity in the bloodlines of our Poodles to correct the in-breeding and line-breeding that has been done with the breed in the past. On the average, most American Standard Poodle lines reach as high as 25 percent inbreeding! This practice of breeding cousins to one another places the breed at risk for recessive genetic disorders including SA, Addisons' Disease and autoimmune disorders. All of our parents, even the American lines, have a low in-breeding coefficient percentage (COI), and we follow a very careful breeding program to achieve an even lower in-breeding coefficient percentage. COI's are computed on 10 generations. When it comes to placing our puppies with their new families, we are careful to make certain that they are going to caring, responsible, knowledgeable and permanent homes. Someone must be at home to care for the puppy during the day, and we do not permit our puppies to be kept in crates for long periods of time - only for naps and night-time. Potential buyers are screened accordingly, and must visit our kennel in person so that we can meet them. We do not ship our puppies. We also require that potential new owners attend puppy obedience classes with their new addition and read books on our recommended reading list. We are always happy to provide new owners with advice and support, and encourage you to stay in touch with us after you take your puppy home. Our poodle prices are fair; we breed out of our love for poodles and our desire to improve the breed - not for capital gain. Our goal is to produce healthy, happy poodles that will live a long life. We feel that we owe this to the breed that we love so much and that has given us so many years of love and companionship in return.

Hi there folks, its time for party reminders! We are down to just 5 days and then the fun begins.
Just incase you are not quite sure what to bring with you to our Poodle Family Reunion.. This list is more for the people that are first year comers.. BUT this list will be handy for anyone wanting to attend this years party.
So... with that being said... Here we go!
-Warm clothing and winter jackets for when the sun goes down.
-Foldable/Collapsible camp chairs
-camera for lots of picture taking opportunities.
-Flash Light
For those arriving on Saturday, here is your list of items to bring with you along with your family..
- Bring an item to donate to our Raffle table-it can be anything, dog related, poodle related, home made crafts, garden motif, gift certificates, gift baskets, etc,,, anything that you would think someone might be able to use or love. People purchase tickets for the items they are interested in and then we do a drawing for each item.
-Dessert for Saturday nights Potluck Dessert Table-Bring your favorite dessert to add to our table. It can be anything dessert... cookies, cupcakes, pies, brownies, cheesecake etc..
-BYOB for those that want a little something after dinner is done.
-Don't forget to bring your singing voices and confidence to get up and sing your most favorite song at karaoke time with Yukon Charlie.
-Warm clothing and winter jackets for when the sun goes down.
-Warm clothing for our north country nights.. We suggest bringing a winter jacket for night times and early mornings as it rather chilly up on the mountain when the sun goes down.
Some people like to bring up their pets dog beds and dog warm clothing too. Blankets are nice to have if planning on being around the campfire.
-Flashlights are nice to have at night- we try to have a path lit to the outhouses and parking area. Flash lights and battery operated lanterns work well to help you get back down to your car safely!
For those planning on staying through til Sunday
-Costume for your poodle for our annual costume contest
-We will be doing a talent contest as well so keep practicing those tricks!
If you are bringing a camper/RV please let us know ahead of time so we know how many camping spots we need to have available. Generators are handy to have as our sites are very primitive with no sewer hookups. Make sure to get hotel reservations in NOW as rooms are filling fast. If you cannot find a place to stay, please contact me and I will get you other places to stay.
Registration for our party is $30 per person for the weekend, but if you only come for one day it is still $30. Reunion T-shirts will be available for purchase. Food and Drinks are available on site for purchase (The dining hall loves small bills as we tend to run a little low of small bills come Saturday evening) Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be available on Saturday. Saturday night we will have the lunch menu available along with a couple meal specials and hot soups. Sunday we will be serving breakfast and lunch, then a free of charge meal Sunday night is available to those staying till Monday.
And just one more reminder that this party is for Crabapple Poodles and their families... Dogs attending either need to be a crabapple poodle or reside with a crabapple poodle as a companion. Any other canine family members are welcome to come along as long as they are people and dog friendly. If your dog does not do well in busy situations or gets overwhelmed easy, the party might not a good time for you and your poodle. Any dog that shows aggression towards other dogs will be asked to leash their dog and keep them close by. Dogs that are friendly with other dogs and people are welcome to be off leash. If your dog is over reactive to busy situations with other dogs and people, it may be best to not come. We want to ensure everyone has a good time. any questions don't be afraid to ask!
Please refer to the schedule to know what is planned for our 2 day event.

Such wonderful pictures showing up on the memories feed from past poodle parties. This one is back from 2010 and 11. The greatest part of being on our 20th year of poodle parties is all the memories of having them over the years. These pictures were taken by co-page administrator Rick Miles. I do hope we have a good turn out this year but if it is slightly smaller this year it will just help us get prepped for next year. After 5 years of not having a party party any size party will do! If you can join us.. please consider making the trek up to the north country. Leaves are starting to change and what a beautiful time to explore our area! Both motels still have a few rooms opens for reservations. Northern Comfort Motel 603-237-4440 and Colebrook Country Club 603-237-5566

If interested in these pups, please email with info on you and your household. Someone must be home to raise a new baby and no crate training.
A few weekdays are open for appointments to meet these pups (for approved families)
Be sure to read our website. crabapplepoodles.com

Down to one male in Elsa’s litter born on 5-10-24. He is ready now, he will be 25-30 lbs full grown and is approaching his 4 month birthday. He has also been marked down in price to help him along into his forever home. Please know that someone needs to be home to raise him. Poodles need someone home with time to offer guidance and supervision no different than a human child should be raised and more importantly no crate training. For more info please email Arlene and Emily and include details about you and your family and who will be home to raise a new baby. [email protected]

This is the last girl in available in Halle's (Halle X Rio born 5-6-24) may litter.
I call her HONEY as I needed a name for her when she went down for her rabies shot last week. She is a brown and white parti color who will be around 40-45lbs full grown. She is exceptionally sweet and will be 4 months old on the 6th of September.
Honey is apart of the summer sale (been marked down for her take home price) since she is slightly older pup and being the last one of her litter to find her home.
She would be an excellent addition to a family as the only dog or would excel going to live in a home with another dog currently in the home.
As with any of our pups she does need someone home during the day to properly raise her (no crate training while someone is out the door working).
If interested in HONEY we do have a few appts open for a visit and to possibly take her home. Once you have met this girl you will fall head over heals for her.
Please email Arlene and Emily for more info and please include info on you and your household/family dynamic. Once approved an appt can be made.

Good afternoon fellow crabapple poodle owners.
This is what so many of you have been waiting to hear. Yes there will be a poodle party planned for this year! BUT... a few things will be done differently this year as it has been a number of years since having our normally annual get together.
Our reunion this year will only be a two day party instead of the normal 3. Party will be starting first thing Saturday morning Sept 21st and running through til mid day on Sunday, September 22nd. Trying to consolidate a little this year to get us off the ground and running. If all goes well next year we will try to go back to the 3 day party. We are still working on our schedule for activities planned and menu for the summer kitchen. We will also not be doing a grand buffet for Saturday nights supper (which is what we normally do with 3 different course options with many sides, soup and dessert) We will do what we normally do on a Friday with the lunch menu and a couple hot dish specials. Our normal pot luck dessert that happens normally on Friday will be happening on Saturday instead.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be available from the Poodle Mountain Grill/summer kitchen on Saturday. Breakfast and lunch will be available on Sunday then people can either head out after breakfast or are welcome to stay for the afternoon.
The one thing we do ask is if you have recently got a puppy from us this summer to wait til next year before you attend one of our parties. Young pups can be over stimulated and overwhelmed with so many dogs. Their immune systems are also still forming so anyone coming to the party should be at least 6 months of age so they have had all of their vaccinations and have a strong immune system. Anyone younger than that should wait til next year to participate.
We do have to charge a fee for coming to the party, as it takes a lot of money to get a party of this size off operational. We also do charge for food we provide as with everything food has also become costly. (Very reasonably priced and still cheaper than what you would find at a local restaurant, some of the best food you can get in the north country while you are in our area, we promise you will not go hungry and anyone that has come in the past will vouch for how incredible the food choices are) Tee-shirts and possibly sweatshirts will also be available to purchase.
As far as where to stay while in our area:
If you have a camper, rv, motor home, you can stay right on site in our camper village. Primitive parking with no water or sewer hook ups in our back field. Tenters are also welcome but must come prepared for chilly nights and mornings.
Local lodgings are mostly dog friendly. Any listed are dog friendly..
Northern Comfort Motel 603-237-4440
Colebrook Country Club and Lounge 603-237-5566
River Edge Inn and Black Bear Tavern 603-237-5521

Jacksons Lodge Cabins (Canann, VT) 802-266-3360
If you are having trouble finding a room please reach out to us.

One other reminder... This party is only for crabapple poodle owners. Not just breed specific. You have to have a crabapple poodle in order to attend. Other dogs that live in the home with a crabapple poodle are also welcome to attend but they must live with a crabapple poodle in order to attend. Dogs attending the party also have to like other dogs. If your dog is not good with other dogs, this party may not be right for you. Most dogs are off leash but if your dog has an argument with another, we will recommend they go on a leash for the rest of the party.

Do also be aware this is not a time for people to come visit the kennel. The kennel will not be open for visitors as we will be busy seeing folks that already have our dogs that are up in the area for the reunion. No puppy sales will also be happening on this particular weekend.
Please RSVP us on email so we know that you are planning on attending.
We will be posting a schedule of the party and menu options closer to the party date.
Lots of work to do to be ready for the party and we are now on countdown!

Any questions please reply to this post or email Emily and Arlene at [email protected].

20/08/2024

These are the last two boys left in Lucy's litter. (Lucy Locket X Erik the Red litter born 6-9-24) They will be close in size even though one is slightly bigger than the other as of right now. Both sweet boys and would make a great addition to a family as the only dog. Would also be good as a second dog in the home or to be best friends with a young teen. (puppies are better for kids over the age of 5 and up.)
These boys will be around 30-35lbs full grown and are ready now for homes.
In order to be considered as a potential home/family for one of our pups someone must be home during the day to raise on of our babies. No crate training and raised by a persons side like a human child would be raised. Poodles do not develop well being left home all alone, they also need to potty hourly and need someone at home to offer guidance, nurturing and love!
If interested in these two boys, please email Arlene and Emily with information about you and your household, family dynamic and who will be the one with time at home to raise a new baby, also include if there are children in the home, another dog currently in the home and other things you may think may be good to mention.
Once approved an appointment can be made to come meet us and take your new family member home!

Check out these beautiful puppies. These would be Esther’s litter. This gorgeous group of puppies will be very big standards at full grown. The majority will be over 70 to 90 pounds full grown with one girl that will be slightly smaller. We are accepting deposits on this group. Four males and four females. One female is already spoken for, and I will know which one is spoken for after Wednesday. They will be ready for homes starting September 4 on their eight week birthday birthday. In order to be approved as a potential home/family for any of our puppies. Please email with information on you and your household and who will be home to raise a new baby. We are not wanting our pups crate trained while someone is out the door working as poodles do not develop well being left home alone. Poodles are best raised by a person side. Big Announcement
We are conducting a summer slash on puppy take home prices on puppies born this spring (May or before) to help move them along. Anyone born in may or earlier in the year we are drastically reducing their price to help get them out to homes. Call it a red light special! Each album of pups included in this deal will be posted daily and one at a time. This special includes pups from "Mabel's, Halle's and Elsas" litter.
Halle's four female pups (Halle X Rio born 5-6-24 1 brown and white and 3 blue and white paritcolors) These girls will range in size from 40-45lbs. They are very social and people oriented. They would be a great pup to bring in for older kids and for people that like to do summer recreational hobbies like boating and beach fun. They will be great water dogs.
Also a great size to train for therapy work or competition like agility. Lots of great potential in these pups.
They will be going down to our vet for new updated health certs and their rabies shot on Monday August 19th and can start going out to homes after that. If you would be interested in one of these you could either send a deposit to hold on in your name til the health cert is done or you could make a trip to meet them, pick one, leave a deposit and then back for the chosen one once pups have had their health cert updated.
These pups being spotted are head turners and attract lots of attention. The little girl with the purple collar has the most markings. and she is the smallest of the 4.
Both parents on the premises and we only raise poodles (no other breeds and NO Poodle mixes) Going strong for 32 years. We are well known for our breeding for health, diversity, temperament and our love for genetics. Our dogs are sturdy and are the working dog type!
If someone is at home to raise a new pup (even though slightly older they do need someone at home to offer guidance and supervision to raise them properly.
Please email Arlene and Emily for more info, availability and pricing on these great group of puppies. We are not allowed to post prices on Facebook so you must email for that info but I promise you, you will not find such a great deal anywhere else.

Be sure to also read our website so you can get a good idea who we are and what we strive for.

Photo's on available pups have been updated! Summer time is a great time to bring in a new pup to your family. Easy to housetrain with proper supervision and we have some great pups available to make your summer more interesting and fun!
And if you are wanting a new friend for a dog currently living in the home and have a fenced in yard, think about one of our older pups or spayed/neuterd retired breeders! Email for availability. We also have slightly older pups available as well for a reduced take home price. Those pups have had their rabies shot done and just need to get out and learn new experiences. Again email for availability.
As with any of our pups and retired breeders someone must be home to raise a new family member.

New Standard litter announcement!!
These are Esther‘s pups. Four males and four females. We are watching their color as they grow as we are thinking they will stay brindle or maybe even Sable, but some of them do have phantom markings and we will know more as they grow whether the phantom marking disappears or not. Their color has been hard to figure out, but once they are a little older, we should know what patterns they’re going to keep. These puppies will be very BIG standards probably ranging from 75 to 90 pounds full grown. We’ve had one deposit come in on one of the females so far. We are accepting deposits for the remaining seven. This litter will be ready for homes starting September 4th and old enough for visits starting August 21st. Our one requirement to be considered a potential home/family for one of our pups is someone must be home during the day to raise a new baby. Poodles do not develop while being left home alone and we do not recommend crate training. Poodles are raised the best way by someone’s side like a human child would be raised. Be sure to read our website. For more information please email Arlene and Emily with information about you and your household and who will be home to raise a baby to be come approved for one of these beautiful puppies.

16/07/2024

Mabel’s remaining pups were also down to our vet for new health certificates and their rabies shot yesterday. When they go down for their rabies shot, we have to create them and identity so we were calling these two Matilda, and Maizie. These two girls will be about 60 to 65 pounds full-grown. Even though slightly older, they still need someone at home during the day to properly raise them. To offer guidance and reassurance on a new way of life, they would make great additions to a family with another dog currently living in the home or as an only dog in the home. Great dogs for older children and being parti colors they are very striking in color. We call them head turners that will cause people to take a second look as they are not sure what they just saw going by. Being slightly older puppies, we have marked them down in price to help move them along. We also offered discounts for any current or former crabapple owners. We also offered discounts for anyone that has been retired from the military or police/EMS/fire department careers. To become approved as a potential home for these puppies, please email Arlene and Emily with information about you and your household and who will be home to raise a new pup. Once approved an appointment can be made to come play with these puppies and to pick out your new family member! They are up-to-date on their vaccinations and have now developed bladder and bowel control so housebreaking with supervision is a breeze.

16/07/2024

Elsa’s pups went down for their health certificates today. All passed with flying colors and will be starting to go out to homes starting Wednesday, July 17. We do have some still available in this litter. 4 blue males, two will be smaller around 20-25 pounds full grown and the other two will be a little bit bigger and will be 25 to 30 pounds full grown. We also have one blue female available that will be around 25 to 30 pounds full-grown. These pups are great size especially for older folks that don’t want to lift a big dog up into a vehicle anymore. Also a great size for nursing home visits and going to the library for story hour to read to young children. This is the smallest size we raise and we do not have this size too often so if looking for this size do not wait!!!
Please know, that we need to know someone is home during the day to raise a new baby. These puppies have to go out hourly and would not develop well being left home alone. We are not crate training advocates and want or pups raised by a person's side.
Once approved, an appointment can be made to come play with puppies and to pick out your new family member! In order to become approved, please email information about you and your household and who will be home to raise a new pup. [email protected]

A few pictures I was able to grab yesterday of Mabel‘s puppies while they were out playing. Older puppies are moving targets, they don’t like to sit pretty for a picture they’d rather be jumping, playing and exploring. older puppies also like mud and one of the females decided to give herself a mud bath. Think about making one of these part of your family. Just as long as someone is home during the day to raise a new baby. Being slightly older, we have marked down their take-home price to help move them along out to their forever homes. For more information please email Arlene and Emily at [email protected].

Being slightly older pups at 13 weeks of age, we have reduced their take-home price to help them move along into their forever homes. These are full-size standards and will be our only particolor litter for standards this year. For more information please email Arlene and Emily at [email protected].
