Rush has earned his life of retirement after being a wonderful show horse, lesson horse, and therapist ❤️. He turned 22 today and I’ve been honored to own him 19 of those amazing years! Does my horse need a blanket?

As cooler weather approaches, you may be wondering when do I start blanketing or do I have to blanket at all. All horses are different, and the short answer is “it depends”. The decision to blanket should be based on your horse’s individual needs. These factors include your horse’s age and overall health, coat condition, shelter situation, tolerance to cold, forage availability, and turn out schedule.

Blanketing Tips
1. During seasonal transitions, blankets may have to be removed daily in response to day/night temperature changes.
2. Always replace or remove soaked blankets as they will keep in the wetness and make the horse colder.
3. Do not blanket a wet horse.
4. Be sure to remove the blanket at least once a week to check for weight loss/gain, skin fungus or bacterial infections, and blanket rubs.

Stetson is a handsome 2022 solid APHA gelding. Grandson of Haidas Pep Boy. He is very personable and wants all the loving and attention. Currently stands 14.2 hands and should mature around 15+ hands and stocky. His long mane, tail, and forelock is gorgeous. He has NOT been started under saddle. Just sitting saddle pads on him and letting him grow/fill out. He has a great mind set and willingness to make a nice riding partner later. Bottom of the totem pole in the pasture.
