Remembering and Honoring D-Day 78th Anniversary

My husband Ron Szybowicz took these at the 50th anniversary. While in the Army he was selected to be deployed there as protective service detail, augmenting the Secret Service. Each year I read these citations again, taking another glimpse through their eyes for a brief moment. A chilling reminder of what was endured.

"My sunshine doesn't come from the sky. It comes from the love that's in my Lucie's eyes."

Cancer sucks. But Lucie was tough and barked in cancer's face. With our help she continued to enjoy her quality time until this weekend. On Sunday we had to let our precious Lucie go. She passed comfortably on my lap, in our loving arms at her favorite spot in our yard. To say we are heartbroken is an understatement. Our typically buzzing home is eerily quiet with the loss of our biggest love, our sweetest heart, our Shady Dog.

I'm going to need some time to get my head straight and find my feet again. Providing palliative/hospice care to my heart dog has taken a toll. But how lucky am I to have Shady Dog Soap to keep her memory alive.
