These two kids got saddled today!šš» they both did fabulous and neither of them gave a show(kinda disappointing) BUT they both have been saddled/ridden before so I didnāt expect much. I still was prepared and acted like they were being saddled for the first time! Horses have a mind of their own and can be very unpredictable so I have to take precautions when doing this!ššš»

Flexing is my number one thing before getting on any horse I donāt know. It tells me they are soft and supple in the face. Flex your horse every chance you get. It acts like a friendly reminder for the horse that you do the pulling and he does the giving. š©µ

We learned that standing on the bridge without trying to get off is rest time and no work. She struggled with this one, but she eventually got it!
If your horse is scared/spooked of an object make them work around it, rest them in that area, and continue the process until they realize that this object isnāt so scary. It makes a great training session cause sometimes it takes 5 minutes and sometimes it takes a hour. You just never know. Every horse is different!

So as many as you know I wasnāt taking on client horses for the rest of the year just because I wanted to focus on my two horses and just couldnāt make the time for all of that at the time I decided this, but now that I have only one horse, I have decided to go as a full time horse trainer!
I will be taking limited spots per month! I have updated my business plan way more and I will be boarding and training at Wild Winds Ranch! I am so completely excited and committed to this! Canāt wait to meet and work with your four legged friends!!

Jagger has finished his 90 days with me in my training program and he will be going home to his family at the end of this week!
What can I say about this guy? He has definitely helped me understand, as a rider, the importance of riding in your seat. Now I know he is a baby and he didnāt know literally nothing when we first started riding, but for the first couple weeks of riding, which seemed like forever, he would not slow his butt down. He ran around that arena like a damn lunatic LOL! I couldnāt figure him out for the life of me! But I then thought to myself and what Iāve told many peopleā¦forward means GO and backwards means WHOA. So I really had to continuously sit deep in my saddle to actually get him to figure out that going slower is key for him to do less work. By the time he had the most beautiful lope going I was impressed, happy, excited, and proud! Same with his jogging! He has the cutest and smoothest jog ever!
Jagger has also taught me that every horse is different in so many ways. Second ride I was riding him in a bit already because he was so strong and pig headed for my c**t starting hackamore. I didnāt trust him or myself to keep us both safe enough to ride in that way. Going to the bridle was the smartest choice for him. I do usually ride them in the hackamore for 10-15 rides, but like I said before, every horse is different and youāll find different things that will have to work for both you and the horse.
I canāt believe Iām saying this, but I am actually going to miss riding this dude! Heās been so fun to work with and I am very glad I had the opportunity to start him under my hands. I wish him and his family the best of luck for his future! Excited to see which direction he goes!

Since I have not done one of these āGet To Know Meā posts yet I probably should! š
~ Few things about my riding background! ~
Iāve been around horses my entire life! I got my first pony named, KitKat, when I was about 6 years old. I learned how to ride and fell in love. I went through so many horses after KitKat until we found the perfect match, Eddie. He was the absolute sweetest boy ever and taught me so much!š©µ
I have a 17 year old gelding, named Smokie, that Iāve had for almost 10 years already (wow! That just hit me!) Smokie taught me to be the rider I am today! We did so much together and had so many happy memories! Heās living his best life in the pasture right now, but still not retired, not yet! š
I then went to college down in Iowa for Equine Management to learn how to start horses! I gain a lot of confidence after having this yearling for a semester! Betcha canāt guess his name! Fireballš„ Yep! And he was also a red roan so that definitely tells you something there! My confidence on the ground went way up because of that horse!
After school I learned the about the Clinton Anderson Method from a really great inspirational friend! That method has stuck with me since 2019 and have been using it on all my horses since then! I have definitely learned so much with using it! I have been through a Fundamentals Clinic with Method Ambassador Brock Nelson and an Intermediate Clinic with Professional Jeff Davis! My horsemanship skills went from 1 to 5 after those two! My goal is to attend an Advanced Clinic someday!ā¤ļø
In 2021 I bought my very first horse on my own named, Quincy (the one pictured). I bought her as an unbroke 2 year old. I waited until she was 3 to start her. Her starting went phenomenal! All of last year I took her to clinics, trail rides, local events to get her exposed, and so much more! I am starting her on the barrel and pole pattern now and very excited for her future! She has definitely grown to be an amazing horse already!
In 2023 I then bought my second horse, Spicy, as an unbroke 2 year old. I again waited until she was 3 to start, but did the method to get her started on her ground work! Her starting went awesome! She was definitely a lot easier to start than Quincy in a way! Iām very lucky to own these awesome red mares!
So thatās a little about me and my riding experiences! I have a passion for starting c**ts and working with horses and their owners! I love to see the best results too!

Quincy was scared of these jump holders and I firstly sent her through and around them on the ground for a minute or so and then got on her and worked her by them. Once she settled down with that, I asked her to stop and rest by the object. It helps a lot doing this exercise cause it makes them realize itās not so scary. Horses are so over dramatic so it honestly doesnāt hurt to make them do this š

Jagger had such a good 6th ride! Heās already coming along great! This week we worked on a āgas pedalā but this guy already had a gas pedal on the first ride, so weāve been working on some breaks, slowing down, and relaxing. Small circles & figure 8ās are becoming his best friend LOL!

One of the biggest goals I had for Jagger during his time with me is his ground manners. This backing technique will help his owners get respect if he ever was disrespectful towards him or me during his time here at the ranch. I started teaching him this on day 1 and I am finally getting him to the point where he doesnāt need no pressure on the halter nor bridle in this case(video). If he needs a boost Iāll encourage him with my stick or slapper, but with him it doesnāt take much. Heās learning respect and Iām loving it! His riding is also coming a long great! He had his 8th ride tonight and weāre working towards slowing his gaits down especially his lope. I had some help from a friend tonight and definitely will be using that method with him cause I think it will work out in the end. Might take awhile, but some horses just take time and thatās okay! Jagger had his 2nd ride today and it went very smoothly! Yesterday I rode him in my colt starting hackamore, but I decided since heās so strong and barely responded in it went ahead and rode him in the snaffle. He is way more respectful to it too. I usually start colts in the hackamore for the first 10-15 rides, but every horse is different I have learned and he will go straight to the snaffle for his rides. Itās a lot safer to him and I as well! I am very proud of this guy and I am excited to see how he does in the next 45 days I have him! Heās a looker, but just imagine what he will look like in a monthš¤©š„
Jagger has his first ride tomorrow and the goal for today was the āJefferyās Methodā. He did very good for the most part(I was dying cause I canāt jump to save my life on taller horsesš¤£). He has a bit of a problem with standing still so I tried to wait it out cause he didnāt really give me any sign that he was spooked by me up there just was probably confused and didnāt know what to think. I also lost my balance so I just decided to jump off anyway. I tried to do it again, but my fat butt couldnāt get up there againš but he did really good anyways so I just decided to end it. Excited to see how his first rides go this weekend! ššš»
Got the opportunity to ride mister Whiz tonight! I just wanted to do the spin on him cause the last time I did this with him was back in 2017, just babies both of us!āŗļø I think he missed it just as much as I did! Heās the sweetest boy everš
When thereās jumps or whatever up in the arena you gotta make something fun out of it to do with your colt! Spicy did so well with this and I definitely had fun doing this with her! She was a bit nervous around them at first so thatās why I trotted her around them before loping! The loping is so fun especially when thereās a song you love jamming out to playing! Takes this to a whole new level!! These jumps will be set up every Sunday from now on and Iām actually glad about it cause now I have something fun to do with these young ones!
Jagger is in for training for the next 60 days to get started. He is owned by some family friends of mine and Iām so glad they decided to take him to me to get started! I am beyond excited for this dudeās future! I have worked with Jagger before on his ground work so we have been refreshing his training this past week. One thing he really remembered was his flexing. This past week he has gotten SO soft for his flexing. The goal for flexing is lifting with your pinky finger and thatās exactly where heās at with it right now!
Circle driving a such a good exercise to teach and do with your young ones! I am doing a few ground work sessions with this coming 2yo and this is the second time Iāve worked with her on this exercise! Sheās one smart little filly!
This is what I expect when doing the lunging exercises. Effort & Willingness!! You teach them this step after they get the footwork done of course. I should be able to just āpointā in the direction I want her to go and she goes! Spicy got it right away!
Seriously such a good way to get your horses broke by doing something like this! Great workout for them!
Lunging on the long line for the first time this morning! She did pretty good for the most part! Usually you donāt start right away at the end of the 23ā rope, but I wanted to see how sheād handle it!

š Cloverleaf Exercise š This is always a fun drill! You put 4 cones in a shape of a box(I didnāt have the cones up this time) in the middle of your arena as the middle marker. You can start out trotting & eventually go to the lope, but you trot for maybe 5-10 minutes or as I like to do 2 songsš then lope doing the same amount of time. Youāre always going to be going Left or Right one way. Itās seriously such a fun drill to do! I had a fun time doing it with my 3yo im starting! Itās definitely a good way to get them a sweaty pad/body! She was also spooky around the corners, the later up bridge, and the cowtrac, but eventually going around and doing this drill making her use her head she eventually didnāt mind the scary objects! This exercise really gets them moving out more too! Try it out sometime! You wonāt regret it!š

I find it cringy, but at the same time I can definitely say my ground work & my form has definitely changed & improved so much in 2 years!!
