✨ ADOPTION UPDATE: Juan’s Happy Ending

Juan was one of six dogs living on the streets of Carolina, Puerto Rico, cared for by kind neighbors. But when a larger stray attacked him, it became clear he needed more than just food — he needed safety.

Today, Juan is thriving in Maryland with his adopter Steve and a new furry brother! From surviving to truly living — Juan’s life has completely changed. 💛

There are still so many satos like Juan who need our help to get off the streets and into safe, loving homes. 🐾

We have some amazing news to share! Tasha, one of our beloved feeding route pups, has just been adopted! 🐶💕

Rescued at just 3 months old by an incredible independent rescuer, Tasha spent her early days relying on the kindness of strangers for food and care. Her sweet, playful spirit quickly made her the perfect match for a loving family with children.

Now a bit more grown, Tasha still carries that same puppy-like wonder and joy in her heart. ✨

We’re so proud of you, Tasha—for opening your heart, trusting the right humans, and allowing yourself to be loved. 💛

We’re still urgently looking for FLIGHT ANGELS to help get the last of our 11-puppy litter to their forever homes! These little ones weigh a little under 8 lbs and are still small enough to fly in-cabin with a passenger—no cargo, no stress, just cuddles. 💼🐾

💔 We’re doing everything we can to avoid sending them as cargo—not only is it very expensive ($400–$500 per crate), but rising summer temps make it dangerous for them to travel in the hold.

Did you know that we don’t age discriminate?

We want to talk about little Phoenix — a senior Yorkie who was found in absolutely deplorable conditions. Matted fur, missing teeth, and a broken spirit.

When Phoenix was rescued by one of our independent rescuers, it was hard to imagine she’d ever find an adopter. She was a senior — and as you know, seniors are often overlooked, as many people shy away from adopting a dog who may be nearing the end of their life. She had only three teeth and was completely covered in matting — with actual branchestangled in her hair.
Imagine being an older, tiny dog, surviving all alone through scorching heat and heavy rainstorms. Heartbreaking doesn’t even begin to describe it.

Why is this post special? Because at Proud Rescuers, we want to shout it from the rooftops: we do not age discriminate. We deeply believe that seniors — both dogs and humans — need purpose. And they absolutely deserve love, connection, and companionship, no matter how many birthdays they’ve had.

So, how is Phoenix now affectionately called "Rose Bud" doing now?

She’s living like a princess in Bayville, Long Island with her new mom. 💖 She quite literally went from rags to riches — and will now live out her golden years surrounded by the love and care she always deserved.

Help us continue to fight for vulnerable senior dogs like Phoenix so that they too may have a second chance at life.

🚨 PUPDATE: Our sweet litter of 11 made it through their second veterinary visit like little champs! Each one got their vaccines, health checks, and plenty of love from the amazing vet staff. Mama is doing great, and the pups are growing fast — tails wagging, paws pouncing, and bellies always rumbling! 🐶❤️

But with every appointment comes a growing bill. 💸 We’ve covered what we can, but we need help to keep them protected and healthy. Vaccines save lives — and with 11 puppies, the cost adds up fast.

We’re also running low on food, and these little ones can EAT! Every donation helps us buy kibble, cover vet bills, and make sure this sweet family has everything they need to thrive.

Yesterday was full of wagging tails, puppy kisses, and so many warm conversations with animal lovers in our community. We loved introducing everyone to our incredible rescue pups—and it’s safe to say a few of them stole some hearts. 🐾💕

We’re so excited about the interest our dogs received and can’t wait to see where these connections lead. Big thanks to everyone who came out to support us, learn more about our mission, and show our pups some love.

As if finishing chemo wasn’t enough… our brave and beloved founder Andrea Herrick has just been featured in People Pets!

The animal rescue world is celebrating a true warrior. Andrea, the heart behind Proud Rescuers of Puerto Rico, is being recognized for her life-saving work rescuing abandoned animals on the island — all while courageously battling breast cancer. 💪🐾

Why this feature is important is because it continues to shine a light on Puerto Rico’s heartbreaking stray crisis — with over 600,000 animals suffering without food, shelter, or medical care.

It also calls attention to a painful truth: independent rescuers across the island are overwhelmed, underfunded, and largely unsupported while the government stands by. Every single day, incredible Puerto Rican men and women are fighting to save dogs and cats from horrific conditions — and they do it with compassion, grit, and almost no resources.

We demand change — and we are the change.
