Bees.
On a Tuesday.
This colony of bees *found us* this spring. We noticed a handful of bees exploring an unused box that was sitting in the yard. I moved it to the apiary and set it up - just in case. Sure enough, a couple days later we welcomed a *very large*, healthy swarm to the family.

After 5 years, our compost bins were breaking down (bah dum bum).

Salvaged as much of the wood from the old system as I could and upgraded the sides to hardware cloth. The chicken wire gave out way too fast and was no match for all the dirt the chickens toss out when they're digging. I'm relocating the 3 bins to a different party of the yard, while I'm at it.
One down, two more to go.
Things are really very exciting here.

Mystery gourd.
Sometimes nature likes to grow whatever *she* feels like. I planted whatever these are from seed (from ) probably 3 years ago and either it didn't come up or it self-seeded. I didn't keep any real record of what I put where in the beginnings of our garden, so we're always finding surprises popping up.

Meals: one, chores: none I had the lofty goal of creating a delicious meal centered around the Rose of Sharon blossoms in our yard *and* get some laundry done. Chikira is the first broody hen that we haven't been able to break easily by just removing from the nesting box for a day or two.
