CLARKSVILLE PARKS & RECREATION HOSTS VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION AT KLEEMAN RECREATION CENTER

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville Parks and Recreation is honored to invite the community to the Veterans Day Celebration on Saturday, November 9, from 5-8 p.m. at the Kleeman Recreation Center.

This special event offers an opportunity for veterans, their families, and the entire community to gather, reflect, and celebrate the brave service of those who have served in the United States military.

The Veterans Day Celebration will feature an evening of fellowship, reflections on military service, and special presentations. Attendees will have the chance to connect with other veterans and families, sharing stories and experiences in an atmosphere of camaraderie and support.

“As a veteran myself, I know how important it is to take time to reflect on our service and reconnect with others who understand the military experience,” said Herman Brown, Kleeman Recreation Center Manager and United States Air Force Veteran. “This celebration is a chance for our community to come together in support of our veterans and their families, and to celebrate the sacrifices and contributions made by so many.”

Whether you are a veteran, a family member, or simply wish to show your support, this event is open to all who wish to join in celebrating the service and sacrifices made by our military members. The event is free to attend, and all are welcome.

CLARKSVILLE, TN. – On Saturday, November 2, 2024, the Inaugural Clarksville Half Marathon & 5K presented by Hankook Tire Manufacturing Tennessee will bring nearly 850 runners through some of Clarksville's most scenic streets.

To ensure the safety of participants, spectators, and motorists, various lane closures will be in place across the city, with Clarksville Police Department officers stationed at key intersections.

Lane Closures and Police Presence

To facilitate race operations and ensure safety, the following lane closures and officer placements are planned:

Southbound Riverside Drive lanes will begin shutting down at 5 a.m.

Liberty Park will be closed until runners are no longer present on Cumberland Drive.

Downtown Clarksville and Austin Peay State University streets will start closing at 6:30 a.m. as police manage the route. Officers will be present at intersections including:

Franklin Street at intersections with First, Second, Third, and Fourth streets; Seventh Street; University Avenue; and Childers Alley

Strawberry Alley at First and Second streets

Main Street at intersections with First, Fourth, and Eighth streets

College Street at intersections with First Street, Spring Street, and Eighth Street

Riverside Drive at intersections with Main Street, Commerce Street, Adams St , Crossland Avenue, Thomas St, Lawn St, Dortch St, Current St, Barker St, Hickory Grove Boulevard, Dean Drive, and Cumberland Drive.

Additional closures include Highway 48 near Liberty Park and Public Square, which will remain closed until after the event.

Parking Restrictions and Reopening Schedule

To accommodate the race, parking along the race route will be prohibited starting at 4 a.m. on Saturday, November 2. Roads are expected to reopen gradually as runners finish, with full access restored by 10:30 a.m.

Spectator Opportunities

Spectators are encouraged to cheer on participants, with downtown Clarksville offering ideal vantage points along Franklin Street and nearby intersections. Join us downtown to celebrate this inaugural event and support our runners!

Safety and Support

The Clarksville Half Marathon and 5K prioritize the safety of all participants, residents, and spectators. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in following street closures, parking restrictions, and guidance from officers.
