WARNING:
I know in the past we have promoted Victor Dog Food but some new information has come out during the dog food recall. The people who started the Victor Dog Food brand sold their company to Mid America Pet Food, they're the same company that makes cheap, store brand dog food & they have a long history of recalls. We will no longer be feeding Victor & don't recommend anyone use it. Right now we are researching possible alternatives & I will keep you all updated. If your dog got sick from eating Victor contact Mid America Pet Food at 903-572-5900. Address is below.

Labradoodle vs Goldendoodle:
What's the difference?

The Labradoodle and the Goldendoodle are two poodle mixes that fit the bill for perfect family companions as they inherit desirable characteristics from both parent breeds. Our dogs are F1b standard doodles, meaning that they are 75% poodle and 25% retriever so there isn't going to be much difference between their personalities and coats.

Since the Labrador is often calm and affectionate, the Labradoodle has the same traits. As a pet, the Labradoodle is bound to make you smile with its extroverted personality, loving & gentle nature, and strong desire to spend time with human family members both young and old alike. Although they are friendly dogs that do well around strangers, they tend to be more family oriented and can be steadfast guardians. Labradoodles also have a sixth sense about what is happening, making them well-suited for busy homes or homes that get a lot of visitors.

Goldendoodle’s temperament is similar, as they are also gentle and affectionate dogs. They are a fun loving, silly, intelligent, and very extroverted dog. Kind of like the high school cheerleader of the dog world. The Goldendoodle may have difficulty reigning in its energy level and enthusiasm sometimes but they'll have endless energy for playtime. Goldendoodles see everyone as their best friend, however, this outgoing personality means they aren’t typically suitable as family guardians.

Both breeds are highly intelligent, making them great family dogs, but this also gives them the potential to be trained as service or therapy dogs.

Standard Poodles, Golden Retrievers, and Labrador Retrievers are among the most intelligent dog breeds in the world. All three are sporting dogs and have been faithful companions throughout the history of their breeds. They have hunted beside us & helped put food on our tables, they've lead the blind, comforted the sick & dying, worked in search & rescue to find the lost, helped raise our children, and overall have been humankind's most faithful & boon companions. They are all very easy to train to do just about any task that you can think to train a dog to do. Combining poodles and retrievers mixes the best qualities of them into some of the best dogs you can have.

So whether you decide on a Labradoodle or a Goldendoodle, know that you’ll be getting a wonderful family companion that will be loyal & loving to the very end.

"We patronize the animals for their incompleteness, for their tragic fate of having taken form so far below ourselves. And therein we err, and greatly err. For the animal shall not be measured by man.
In a world older and more complete than ours, they move finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear.
They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other Nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth." ― Henry Beston

Doodles (both Labradoodles & goldendoodles) are such great family dogs. This dog goes to protect the baby when mom leaves the room. Sitting or standing in front of a person is typically guarding behavior. They're putting themselves between their person and any possible threat.

Preparing for Your New Puppy:
When raising up your puppy always remember; you get out what you put in. Puppies don't come preprogrammed, it takes a lot of work but the years of joy you'll get back will certainly be worth it.
Before your puppy arrives there are a few arrangements to be made and rules to decide on, those include:

Buy the right supplies.
You will need a crate and/or bed for your new puppy to stay in. Food and water bowls are a must. Healthy and complete puppy food is important (we feed & recommend Victor brand puppy & dog food). A collar, tag, harness, and leash are important for taking them on walks, however, you may need a harness as you train your puppy. A car restraint is important for their safety if you’ll be traveling often. Puppy pads are helpful for house training, and poo bags are needed for outside.

Puppy-proof your house. Decide where your puppy will be sleeping. Crate training is a popular method to make them feel like they have a safe, quiet place to rest. Choose your puppy’s eating place.
If there are certain parts of your home you don’t want your puppy in, then baby gates can help set boundaries. Check your home for potential puppy hazards like poisonous plants, cleaning products, cables, or other things they might chew on that they shouldn’t.

Here is a list of poisonous & safe plants from the ASPCA: https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/dogs-plant-list

Find a veterinarian and trainer. Putting your puppy on a routine and early training can create a well-behaved dog. It’s important to get them checked out and up-to-date on their vaccinations as early as possible. Finding the right vet for you and your puppy will make these trips easier.

The Big Day
Once you’ve picked up your new puppy and are bringing them home, you’ll want to set them up for success. Making it through the first night can be the toughest part. However, the joys they will bring you will far outweigh the struggles in the beginning. Starting a routine and sticking to it will help your puppy have a successful transition. Here are tips for surviving the first 24 hours:

Introduce them to their family. Let your puppy explore designated areas until they’re familiar with the house. Introduce family members one a time, to avoid overwhelming your puppy. Let them know where they should potty, and reward them when they go. Introduce them to other animals in your house slowly to avoid aggression or irritation. Avoid other dogs outside until your puppy has all of their vaccinations. Note that this could take a few months.

Start enforcing rules.
Teaching your puppy the house rules from the beginning will help them understand the boundaries. You will need to decide where they will sleep, if they’re allowed on furniture, or if they can have table scraps. Sticking to a schedule for mealtime, potty breaks, playtime, and naptime will help your puppy feel secure and confident. Puppies need plenty of sleep, and giving them a safe place to rest will help them.

Surviving the first week.
For many, the first night & week is the toughest. Some puppies may cry for the first few nights. If you’re crate training, you may want to take them out and console them. However, letting them cry in their crate will help them understand the rules. You can put their crate in your bedroom so they know you’re close by. Some puppies may not be able to hold their bladder through the night. You can solve this by taking them on a potty break before and after bedtime. You may also need to take them out for a quick potty break in the middle of the night, then back to the crate. Remember, it can take some puppies 2 weeks to a month to settle into their new home.

Building strong bonds.
Positive reinforcement, plenty of affection from the family, and consistent rules and routine will help your puppy adapt to their new “pack.” Yelling & hitting will not create a good relationship with your new puppy. Maintaining positive mannerisms even when they have done something wrong will be better for you and your puppy. Remember, your puppy is a baby, you must be patient with it.

Starting on the Right Paw.
After bringing home your new puppy, the real fun begins. Sticking to a consistent schedule and training them will help the two of you bond. From potty training to learning new tricks, using positive reinforcement will help them learn. Enrolling them in classes or programs can ensure good behavior later also. If this is your first puppy, i highly recommend signing up for a puppy training class so you both can learn how to communicate with each other.

Socializing your puppy when they’re young and after they’ve been fully vaccinated helps their behavioral development. Their experiences as a puppy will shape how they act when they get older. Creating positive encounters will help them be a friendly dog.

It’s also important to get your puppy on a flea, worm, & heartworm treatment. It’s common for puppies to have worms, however, they can be easily treated by medication prescribed from the vet. Necessary vaccinations will also protect them from infectious diseases.

Be vigilant about your puppy’s health. Make sure they have regular vet appointments and checkups. Monitor their health at home, and take note of any concerning behavior. Learn the health risks of your specific breed and take steps to recognize the onset of any diseases or conditions. Your puppy relies on you for their well-being. In return, your healthy puppy will provide joy to you and your family.

Well the person who made an appointment to come pick up Green decided to no call/no show and then blocked me when I asked if everything was OK. I don't mind if people change their mind but would appreciate a quick text to let me know. Oh well, Green and Orange are available. Green is higher energy than Orange and she just loves kids! Everytime she sees kids she gets really excited and only wants to be with them. I'm hoping to place her in a home with children.

Orange is the only one left! She's a very sweet light apricot puppy, loves to sit in our laps and has lower energy than her sisters. She'd do well in just about any home who has a lot of love to give. She seems to enjoy kids and loves everyone she meets.
