Small Dog Daycare and Boarding Small Dog Daycare and Boarding for small dogs that are no bigger than a Beagle. We offer kennel-free boarding for your 4-legged loved one(s).

As Small Dog Daycare and Boarding we “lodge” small dogs in our home as an alternative to the owner taking their dogs to the kennels. I have been told by some of our lodgers that their kennels are usually at Vet’s office and their dogs are let out for brief periods of time. Basically to potty and stretch their legs. Other than that, they are in their kennels. I don’t know that all places do this. J

ust the ones that were mentioned to me. I find this a sad way to spend a doggie vacation. Mom and dad are off on fun time and I’m stuck in a box. This is not how it is done at our place. The dogs stay at our house and enjoy being with us and with the other dogs. I think it gives the dogs a chance to be dogs and socialize with others of their kind. I think this is what they would tell me if they could talk. We have a big back yard where they can run and play with each other and are free to come in and out of the doggy door; which they usually quickly learn. We do not use crates except for bed time. With them being in our house like this, we can hear them holler if they have to go out at night.

We have more weather coming this week, so keep those babies safe. We have a bad weather plan and have had to use it but the weather changed its mind. Thank God! If you need lodging for your littles, please keep me in mind.

Good Moday morning from Small Dog Daycare and Boarding. I just read this article this morning and thought I'd share it with y'all. It's rather long so grab a cup of coffee. Please consider me when looking for someone to watch your little dogs. Thank you.

DOG WHISKERS: DO THEY HAVE A PURPOSE?

Yes, they do…so, please don’t snip them off!

Dog whiskers, technically called “vibrissae,” are longer and thicker hairs with large follicles containing blood-filled sinus tissues. The word “vibrissae” is derived from the Latin word “vibrio,” which means “to vibrate.” And, vibrate they do!

A dog’s whiskers project outward from the snout and have tactile properties…meaning that they are perceptible to touch, including receiving information from air and water surrounding them.

Sensations and information are transmitted to the dog’s brain by way of the trigeminal nerve. This information is critical under conditions of darkness or when your dog is unable to rely on sight.

Animals are able to detect air currents which alert them to oncoming dangers, determine the shape and texture of an item and maintain proper head position while swimming…all through the information gathered through the whiskers.

While additional studies, regarding the function of whiskers, are currently underway, it is believed that animals receive a series of “taps” or “twangs” when whiskers are touched…perhaps the reason why some dogs seem to dislike kisses directly to the whiskered area.
